Invitation to WikiProject Japan edit

We'd love to have your help with WikiProject Japan. We are trying to improve all Japan-related articles on the English Wikipedia, including translating into English articles on the Japanese Wikipedia. You can join us by visiting this page. ˑˑˑ Talk to Nihonjoε 23:31, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for an invitation of WikiProject Japan. I hope Good luck for the Project. And, but, my English is not so high level now. So my contribution will be making interlanguage mainly, sometime translating into Japanese articles, and sometime translating into English articles in the near future. Of course I cooperate with in translating or about fact or … one by one. In the distant future, maybe. Thank you. Uryah 00:16, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
There are several of us in the project who speak/write Japanese, so you would still be able to communicate with us. Whenever you're ready, we'll welcome you to the project. (^_^) ˑˑˑ Talk to Nihonjoε 00:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tanabe Jyuji edit

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Tanabe Jyuji, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Tanabe Jyuji. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Hello Uryah, The reason Neil916 proposed deletion of the article is because the article does not tell the reader why the person is important. If you know the reason why Tanabe was important, please add one or two sentences. You can start the sentence with some words like "Tanabe is important because ... ." Some people were important because they did something first, or best, or in a new way, or because they influenced other people. There are more reasons too.
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. I hope you continue to write articles for the English Wikipedia. Fg2 08:21, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Neil916 for giving question to this article. Thank you Fg2 for suggestion to how I behave (how I can behave). I'll try to add why the person is important to the article.Uryah 08:48, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I mourn for Fg2.

Sei Whale edit

Hi, Uryah, thanks for improving the Tanabe Jyuji article. While you're online, I wonder if I can ask you a quick question relating to some work I'm doing on the article Sei Whale? (I am presuming by your contributions that you are a native speaker of Japanese). One reference I was working with on the article mentioned that the whale is known in Japanese as "Iwashi kujira", which I believe translates literally to "sardine whale". The phrase Iwashi kujira was in the middle of the sentence, yet the "I" in Iwashi was capitalized. Do you know of a reason why this would be capitalized, or was this just a typo by the publication? Secondly, can you post the Japanese script equivalent of "iwashi kujira", so I can cut and paste it into the article (or you can edit the Sei Whale article directly)? Thanks. Neil916 (Talk) 08:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Neil916. Yes I am a native speaker of Japanese. Sorry late response. But time to need is due to my English. sorry.
In article written in Japanese 1, there is a description "イワシクジラ Balaenoptera borealis (en:Sei Whale)". "イワシクジラ" means "Iwashi kujira". Iwashi (イワシ, 鰯) means sardine. So "Iwashi kujira" translates literally to "sardine whale" is OK. "I" of "Iwashi" is in the first of the "Iwashi". Not in the middle.
In Wikipedia written in Japanese "イワシクジラ" article is not exist now. At present "ja:イワシクジラ" is exist to be red link. And I don't know "イワシクジラ" well. So I can't write "iwashi kujira" in Japanese immediately. I'm sorry. Uryah 10:02, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Uryah 10:04, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, I wasn't clear enough with my first question. To rephrase it, which sentence is correct:
  • The Sei Whale is known as "iwashi kujira" in Japanese
  • The Sei Whale is known as "Iwashi kujira" in Japanese.
I hope that is a clearer question. I wasn't asking you to write the article on the Japanese Wikipedia. Neil916 (Talk) 10:09, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, sorry. In Japanese "イワシクジラ" (Katakana) or "いわしくじら" (Hiragana) or "鰯鯨" (Kanji) is correct. In Japanese by ROMA-JI type "Iwashi kujira" is correct. Is this answer is OK?Uryah 10:21, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
