Re: Sivaji: The Boss edit

Hello, G Ganesh! Thank you for your request, I am honoured. Let us begin.

First of all, I must congratulate you on a really great, well-referenced (and how!) article. From the looks of it, it definitely has a chance of being classified as A-class or even FA, but we'll get to that. I have read the article partly, and there are things I have noticed that should be looked at before going further.

  • The lead section is short. For such a large article, it should have, I'd say, 3-4 paragraphs of text. Expansion is definitely necessary.
  • As I noticed, you place references before punctuation, not after (see this page). This will also have to be changed.
  • Your article uses mostly fair-use/copyrighted images (like Image:Sivaji-05.jpg). Some may frown upon this.
  • You should definitely ask someone to proofread/copyedit the article, especially when it comes to punctuation. The League of Copyeditors might help out here.
  • As for the content itself: The article looks thorough and is informative, but you definitely need to split off a section dealing with the plot of the movie!

So, after all my complaints, we'll go through your options (more or less after what I have written above is taken care of):

  • You could turn to Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Assessment, as the article is in the scope of their interests and unassessed yet. They are the best people to turn to.
  • You could simply run it through the FAC process here. They will most likely put forward even more points to take care of :) as usual. But, if the article is to make FA class, it will definitely have to go through the process.
  • After the article is classified FA, one can request a specific date for it here. There you can request for it to be placed on the Main Page on May 17.

From what I see, the article definitely has FA chances. I can help you with reformatting the references, I can take a detailed look at the prose if you'd like, but for the content (lead expansion and plot coverage) I cannot help much, as I'm not familiar with the subject.

That's it from me. Tell me what you think and I'll be waiting for a response. Cheers, Ouro (blah blah) 14:18, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello. First of all, thanks for the reply. I see you've put the article up for assessment at WikiProject India, I find that good. I noticed that you've taken care of the references, great job!
Concerning the plot: Well, maybe there isn't much, but you have to have some idea, and that's a key feature that's missing from the article. This could be a reason for it not to be promoted, as you yourself are hoping, before May 17th, because that's an essential part of an article on a film that's basically missing here. You've done a good job with sourcing everything else, there's got to be something on the plot out there.
You could expand the lead with additional information on what you barely mention - like, why was its premiere postponed, possible themes (anything on the plot you can get); you devoted a good deal of the article to the soundtrack - expand on that also (you mention two versions!).
Come to think of it right now, it might be a great idea to wait until after the film's release, incorporate information on the reception and box office results, and then run for FA.
In any case, you can take a look at Other FAs on movies.
I'd say, right now, when you get the results of the assessment from Wikiproject India, expand the lead, give it a good copyedit from an editor who had nothing to do with the article (one doesn't notice one's own errors after a while working with the same text), and run for FA.
I'll be happy to hear your further thoughts on this all. Cheers, Ouro (blah blah) 16:01, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Do you need any help from me on the Sivaji: The Boss article (or any other article for that matter)? edit

I have seen that you are doing quite well by yourself. I was wondering if you wanted me to do something to help out. You've added so much to the article, its really shocking(in a good way of cause). ~~ AVTN Speak2Me 16:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply over here
Thanks for the praise, but I have mainly been doing a lot of vandalism reverts and typo fixing with a few new articles on the side.
Thanks for the links regarding how to fix up the Rajinikanth article. I have started on writing articles for his films already, one of which is Moondru Mugam (which you have already seen because you added the category for it).
When looking at Eric Bana's article I saw a filmography Template at the bottom, are we able to do that for Rajinikanth too (he does have 153 or is it 154 films)? If we can would you be able to do it, I am not very good with my wikisyntax.
I also don't know of how to clean up and add more to the Rajinikanth article (biographies in general) and movie articles. Do you know of any tips or sections of guidelines for it?
If you need any help getting to FA please do ask, I am glad to help. Do you think I should just go on as I already do and add new information to the article (which you later move around)?
Unfortunately I cannot read or write in Tamil, therefore I am unable to do any translation work.
Thanks I'll be waiting for your reply,
~~ AVTN Speak2Me 21:57, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I can do much better than King for all the Rajinikanth films, although I have probably only seen 50 of them. I am always on the look out for Rajinikanth films. I'll add the stories of all the Rajinikanth films that I have seen too. Also are you going to watch the Shankar interview tomorrow at 9:30 AM on Sun TV? I think a decent amount of Sivaji: The Boss information maybe released, so it would be very useful if you watched it. I'll be watching it and taping it, so I'll try to add as much as possible too.
~~ AVTN Speak2Me 14:08, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'll keep my eye out for that information when I watch the interview. I'm going late to the temple because of the interview. Yea, I'm just adding lots of films. How do I add the stubs thing? I don't want to stray from making the articles so can you tell me? Also if you have any "ideal" article template I should use please tell me too.
~~ AVTN Speak2Me 14:30, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you want I can quickly create the film articles as it takes about 20-30 secs each for me, and you can start work on adding the information properly. Then when I have made all the articles I will also help. Do you want to linkify Rajini's filmography? By the way do you live in India?

I'm on the clean up job. I've already started with Uzhaippali. Please tell me what needs changing... ~~ AVTN Speak2Me 15:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rajinikanth Article Clean Up edit

I thought I may aswell make a new section since it was getting a bit cluttered up on your side of the conversation. I guess I should leave Uzhaippali as it is then. Well, I am a major fan of Rajinikanth (first film I saw of his was Muthu back when it was released, and I saw it over 200 within a year). I was also a fan of Vijay's but I lost interest when he clashed with Rajinikanth's Chandramuhki. I am a fan of Vikram's since Sammy. The two eagerly awaited films by me are Bheema and Sivaji. What about you? ~~ AVTN Speak2Me 15:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here is a Rajinikanth Clean Up log so that you can add things to do and add what you have done, etc... This will make it easier for use to work. We should still keep communication via yours and my talk page. I think the Rajinikanth Clean Up log will be useful. ~~ AVTN Speak2Me 15:43, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm off for today. You can edit the Rajinikanth Clean Up log all you want. Also have a nice time editing the Rajinikanth article. I'll probably be on later today.~~ AVTN Speak2Me 15:54, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I added that table... I know it had wikilink problems but it had lots of information. ~~ AVTN Speak2Me 16:28, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Currently I am on VandalProof, soon I'll be off for the gym so I won't be doing any work on the Rajinikanth article. I'm taking a small break from editing by anti-vandaling. You should try it sometime, its quiet relaxing.~~ AVTN T CVPS 16:56, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm on now. I'm relaxing so I'm just syntax/typo checking the whole Category:Tamil-language films on AWB. Congratz on getting up to 100. I'll be able to help you later. ~~ AVTN T CVPS 19:22, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

AWB edit

Hello. Per WP:AWB#Rules of use, please do not use the tool to make "insignificant minor edits." --After Midnight 0001 16:29, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the confusion, "insignificant minor edits" was a quote from the AWB page. If you click on the link in my previous post, it lays it out there (so that we don't each have our own definition of minor). If you still have questions, please let me know. --After Midnight 0001 16:38, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I assume that by now you have read the section that I referred to, but you still are making edits consisting solely of white space, as I can see at randomly selected edits such as [1], [2], [3] and [4]. Please stop these needless edits or I will ask that you be removed from the authorized user list. --After Midnight 0001 18:10, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've now had to block you. Please shut down AWB - I've also had to remove you from the approvals list. Feel free to re-acquaint yourself with the rules, and then re-apply for access. To clarify - edits which only move whitespace shouldn't be made (so, you should never have just be doing "General Fixes") - general fixes should only be checked if you're doing something else to the articles, like typo fixing or category changes. Thanks! Martinp23 23:15, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

There won't be any need for any form of punishment! I need to make sure that you understand how to use AWB first though. The general fixes option (or those around it) should never be used alone - only in conjunction with some other task. You can, for example, want to change a category on a group of pages, or do some typo fixes using AWB. Do you understand about the use of the general fixes option now? Martinp23 23:48, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Shankar edit

I'll add the Shankar interview to the article. Shall I add it as the Shankar interview, or shall I add the information he supplied to all the various sections (and a new Plot section)? Shankar didn't say much but he did give a decent amount of information. You can start work on Rajinikanth's filmography again. I'll help you after finishing the article. ~~ AVTN T CVPS 17:30, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Right now I'm not in the mood to write up lot of information. I'll do it later. ~~ AVTN T CVPS 18:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sivaji: The Boss edit

Before you label someone's good faith edits as "vandalism" (and certainly before you attempt to spell "vandalism"), it might be wise in the future to consult the talk page where sweeping edits are discussed. I'm not going to get into an edit war over a movie I'm never going to see and don't in any way care about, but I do want to make some suggestions.

I get that entries for Indian cinema on Wiki are a weird subculture of their own, and because of that feature a lot of stuff that gets deleted on other entries fast (although entries for English language popular films tend to be pretty sucky too), i.e. the near-pathological use of the POV adjective "blockbuster", which is only suitable for a studio press release, not an encyclopedia article. You clearly have a ton of reference resources and a vast amount of time and energy to employ them in an article, and I implore to look at other good Wiki articles to see what goes into writing them. Someone above mentioned candidacy for an A article and I'm telling you that's delusional. Take a look at some A articles and I think you'll see a great difference in conciseness and distillation of the subject matter into its truly important parts. Sivaji: The Boss is a giant unreadable monster. This is an encyclopedia, and as such, the key is summary, it's not a comprehensive list of every time the movie was mentioned in the press (with several hundred footnotes). I can't imagine how the discussion of every actor who was considered for every role (particularly all the ones who were rejected) is even remotely relevant to the article.

Writing articles like Sivaji: The Boss (which is currently 67kb long and it hasn't even been released yet!) basically eliminates the possibility that anyone who's not a fanatical devotee of Indian cinema will ever want to read it. Please please review Wikipedia:Article size, Wikipedia:Manual of Style and, well, a lot of Category:Wikipedia style guidelines. Best of luck. Cheers. Ford MF 16:44, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dude, there are clearly categorical subcultures on Wikipedia. I myself have been repeatedly accused of being part of the "writing articles about dead cops" subculture. But anyway, wow, thanks for calling me a racist. Also good luck with that A article business. Ford MF 17:07, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Need some help. edit

Well can you take a look at this and all the sections below that too. I've been getting some "hate mail" of sorts lately. What do you think I should do? I've stop using AWB for the time being. Well, strictly speaking I shouldn't really be on wikipedia because I have A-Level exams starting in 4-6 weeks. ~~ AVTN T CVPS 20:57, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah! The Rajinikanth article filmography is complete! edit

I made a whole load of articles to fill all the Rajinikanth films up. I made only stubs which I am going to expand soon. All of then have the basic information (ie. Actor/Director information). So what else should we get down to? ~~ AVTN T CVPS 12:20, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also fixed all broken film interwiki links. Now all we need to do is work on the article itself and the awards. ~~ AVTN T CVPS 12:31, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your from Sri Lanka... edit

Using AWB to make new film pages. edit

I took a list of all the pages that were films (including blank pages). Then I put it in a text file (I ran it thought AWB multiple times). Then I went to the More tab and clicked the Enable box on the Append/Prepend text. Then I added a template similar to this:

' is a Tamil film is directed by .

India-film-stub

CinemaofIndia

Then I went to the (2) Set options tab. I only had the following ticked: Apply general fixes, Unicodify whole article, Skip if contains (I put the words "{{Infobox_Film" in it).

Now it would add the article template to all the pages that didn't have it, and I added the Director name manually. If you know how to use RegEx then you can do more wonders with AWB.

AWB Edits edit

Universal Hero, I'm unconvinced that you've actually changed your pattern of using AWB. Check out the following diffs: [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], and [10]. These edits are completely pointless. Reordering templates and adding and removing whitespace is exactly not what AWB should be used for.

Avoid making insignificant minor edits such as only adding or removing some white space, moving a stub tag, converting some HTML to Unicode, removing underscores from links (unless they are bad links), or something equally trivial. This is because it wastes resources and clogs up watch lists.

from WP:AWB#Rules_of_use.

Anyway, I have removed your access to AWB. I won't personally restore it. If you would like access to be restored, you can apply on WT:AWB. alphachimp 15:16, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. An article you recently created, Agaram (film), may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new articles, so it will shortly be removed (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do and please read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. Thank you. Coren 17:39, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey there. I don't think the problem with Agaram (film) is that is has insufficient information, but that it's not notable. While it's not a hard-and-fast criterion, the fact that none of the film, director or actors can be found in the IMDB nor Google is a bad sigh. You can add a hangon tag to the article and add notability information if you have any. Coren 18:00, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your request edit

Hi! Thanks for your nice post. I looked at the article and it is quite impressive. I am not familiar with this film or genre so I'm going to ask User_talk:Dwaipayanc to contact you. My one suggestion would be to wait until the film is released for a little bit of time before taking it to FAC and to watch for the articles that appear after the release. -Classicfilms 18:55, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I noted the article Sivaji: The Boss when it was submitted for DYK. For some reason (I don't remember what) it was not selected. However, the abundance of inline citations right from the beginning was awesome.
As Classicfilms has noted, we should wait till the film is released, as then only the "Plot" and "Reception" (critical reception, reviews and box office success) can be added. These sections are essential for a movie FA.
Regarding Hey Ram, it would be great to improve it. However, I've a question. Do we have enough source for the "Production" and "Reception"? We had a lot of web resources (news, articles, interviews) for Lage Raho Munna Bhai, but web sources for Hey Ram would be comparatively rare. Please comment. Sivaji: The Boss edit

Concerning your request that I do the GA review for the above article; I, unfortunately, must decline. First, it was just nominated. There are many articles that have been awaiting review for weeks. Second, I have a backlog of to-do items and just don't have the time. I have one article on hold, and another--which I know nothing about, that I was requested to review--is half way done like three days into it, which brings me to third, I'm no longer taking requests for articles that I know absolutely nothing about. It takes me days to do the reviews and my attention span plummets.

I'm sure it will get picked from the list soon. Film articles typically don't wait long. Good luck and best regards, LaraLoveT/C 05:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is not the right time to place it for GAC. Let the film get released and u have adequate info on plot, critics review and other details. Ambiguous link edit

Your recent edit to Madurai Veeran (film) included one or more links to the page Tamil, which is a disambiguation page. This type of page is intended to direct users to more specific topics. Sivaji: The Boss edit

Although I don't normally review or help other articles, I will give you some pointers to get it to GA status.

  • As it is a premature film, it can't be nominated. Nominate it again about 3 months after its release (about August)(you might want it to go to GA now, but be patient.
  • In my opinion, for a film that hasn't been released, the article is too long. 72000kb, considering you have to add a plot section, a release and response + dvd sections, it'll be too long.
    • Try trimming down the section "Soundtrack" into about three paragraphs. It already has a main article which all that information should be there. (1 para on production, 1 para on unoffical to official versions and 1 para on release and response)
  • You have extra spacing between the two paragraphs in the LEAD, this should be just one line.
    • For an article this size, the lead should be longer, see WP:LEAD
  • You have a casting section, but you might want to add a cast list (similar to Casino Royale (2006 film) or Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith). You then might want to trim the Casting section to only main actors/actresses
  • Remove the wikinews box in the Publicity and Release section, (either remove it or put it down with external links
  • In the references section there is a link at the top, remove it or put it in external links.
  • In the opening infobox, you don't need the release of the soundtrack in the released part.
  • It is cited but you may have cited incorrectly. (I havent checked it)
    • For news articles use cite news
    • For web pages with info use cite web
      • I'm not going to check that but it seems all the references are all the same.
        • Reference One is a prime example, to use cite news over cite web
  • In my opinion you should have the article copy edited, (this is a check for spelling, updating prose etc.). Some of the prose on the article is not good (eg. After the release of the surprise hit, Kadhalan in 1994, directed by Shankar he answered when interviewed by Sun TV,[4] that his official aim was to direct South India's two major actors, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. (doesn't really make sense)).
  • The category's need to be sorted aphebettically (numbers then letters)(ignore automated categorys eg. Upcoming films)

I think that problems have arisen in Sivaji: The Boss edit

And also AVM want to release it with less pressure. They can only make 40 reels per day, they need to make 700+(just for india). ~~ AVTN T CV A 10:22, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is pretty close to the trailor out on galatta.com , I am part of the rajinifans.com newsgroup and I got a link to the trailer and the username/password to access it. Since galatta are the official site owners I think that is legit. If you want I can link to galatta. ~~ AVTN T CV A 18:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rajinikanth's political thoughts... edit

I've seen the trailer over 100 times now, and no I'm not crazy. He says that he won't leave until he does something good for his people. He wants to turn Tamil Nadu into America (like in Bailekka where it says "Annan vanda Tamil Nadu America"). I really think and HOPE that this means that the thailavar is thinking of going to politics. He is doing what MGR did, MGR was 56 if i remember correctly when he acted the "high budget" film of his time called Ullagam Sutrum Valleban where he when to "exotic" places such as Japan and China (which had never been done by Tamil cinema til then). Soon after this film he went into politics. Rajinikanth is 57 now (or will be this year), I think he might be going down that route too. I can't wait to see the film, I just want to know if the thalaivar is the next CM. It is perfect timing, as there is a media war within the Karananadi family, and AVM poured petrol on the flames by selling Sivaji TV rights not to Sun TV but to Karunanidi's other wife's children. Also since he has got in a way "Karunanidi's support", he no longer has the political problems that he faced in Baba due to Karunanidi. Also I feel Rajinikanth has tackled all sides of opposition since he even talks about the Cauvery River in the soundtrack, and days before the release of the soundtrack Simbu's father was screaming about Rajini forgetting it. ~~ AVTN T CV A 21:59, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sivaji story edit

Check out the synopsis here, if you don't want it spoiled don't check. [13] ~~ AVTN T CV A 18:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well I doubt the cinema that is airing the film would be lieing, they can get sued for that. They have probably sent the film to the BBFC already, and it is getting certified very soon. ~~ AVTN T CV A 19:40, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
According to the synopsis Prakash Raj is in the film, but from the trailers he is not. I am feeling maybe it could be a sort of joke by Ayngaran International? ~~ AVTN T CV A 19:42, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
