CCT110 2013 Help & Questions edit

Hi, I have a question regarding citations. Is it allowed if I cite a statement two times to two different articles? I just want to show that I made this statement after reading different articles. Also, how do I refer two statements to the same reference? Thanks Chanke31 (talk) 21:38, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

How do I edit my sandbox? Melisa1991 (talk) 20:21, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Just for arguments sake I will answer this question for those that were unable to attend tutorial. To edit your sandbox simply click the Sandbox link on the top right of your screen and from there look for the tab titled "Edit Source".

Hi monico am having problems with my citing its saying that my references are not showing or something like that. This is the link to my wikipedia project Mayus16 (talk) 06:52, 11 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Mayus have you read over Referencing? Unfortunately your userpage and talk page are not active and I cannot confirm the exact problem you are experiencing. From what I can see you're lacking the entirety of the "References" section for the article. Perhaps adding the markup language to the article page will solve this.

Hey Monico! Do you mind taking a look at my stub before I post it for any technical corrections? It is in my sandbox. Also how can I add an image? Thank you! --98.142.246.146 (talk) 20:30, 12 August 2013 (UTC)user:Marta BielakReply

  • In terms of reviewing your article/sandbox I can't access nor do I believe I am allowed to review over your sandbox for technical corrections as that is part of the rubric you are getting marked on. If you have technical questions or troubleshooting I can assist you with that. In regards to adding an image you'll have to upload it to Wikimedia Commons. Here's some information on how to do all of this: Uploading Photos. Best of luck with your assignment.

Hey Monico, I have a few questions concerning my references in my wikipedia stub. what format should it be? Can you link me to a guide or something else that I can use to reference my article properly? Thanks a ton. This is my article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osvaldo_Jeanty BrandonBlack2140 (talk) 18:16, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Refer to this guide in regards to your Referencing. You should find all your questions answered here as well as Introduction to referencing for addition aid. I do believe Michael, Deneille, and myself have a resources list on all our pages. Hope this helps. The format you should use should be inline with the stubs first major editor meaning the articles pre-existing format. If there is none just refer to the link for the most popular method used.

Hey Monico, I was wondering if you could briefly scan over my wiki info in my sandbox and let me know if anything looks out out of place. Appreciate it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Yung_kevin/sandbox Yung Kevin Yung kevin (talk) 21:14, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Yung Kevin. I gave your article a quick look and the amount of content you added looks great. However, as I was reading over it I noticed some grammatical errors as well as non-neutral tones which I trust you will read, edit, and revise over before submitting. Furthermore, I am a little concerned with the sources you're using. I'm not an expect on the topic or the person you have chosen but look at your sources and think to yourself if they comply with the principles wikipedia operates in. Lastly, I highly recommend you read Five Pillars as well as Wikipedia is not.

Hello Monico! Hope you're doing well, I was hoping you could check out my article and let me know if I am doing it correctly! I'm just a little confused with the formatting and what content should be there. Thanks! Here's the link, and I added the 'Celebrity Endorsements' part: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OPI_Products jenndao (talk) 22:26, 13 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Monico* Deneille Rochelle (talk) 03:09, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
    • Thank you Deneille for noticing that name error and Jenndao for fixing that typo. I gave your article a quick read and in terms of a "substantial edit" you meet the assignments necessary requirement. Formatting is correct from first glance and briefly skimming over the article. One thing I will mention is that your article edit possesses some non-neutral tones, euphemisms, and other colloquial language. I would highly recommend you re-read the article for such things as well as ensure that your sources are meeting Wikipedia standards. When I say this I question the validity of the non-credible sources as well as opinionated reviews. I highly recommend you read Five Pillars as well as Wikipedia is not.

Hi Monico! The stub I chose to edit says "This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (November 2007)". This is not the article being "flagged" right. It is okay to use this article? (Janedoe64 (talk) 04:06, 14 August 2013 (UTC)) Thanks.Reply

  • Hi Janedoe64 did that message appear before or after editing? As the message states it is indeed being flagged; the article requires additional information from reliable source and anything not on par with Wikipedia standards, as the message states, may be challenged and removed. It is okay to use this article but keep those things in mind. To determine what a reliable source refer to some of the previous questions of the list or guides above this section.

Yes it appeared before I started to work with it. I just want to know if this will affect doing the assignment. How soon after I edit the article will it be updated to see if it's still flagged? (Janedoe64 (talk) 15:40, 14 August 2013 (UTC))Reply

  • No this won't affect you doing the assignment and there is no definite answer I can give you for your second question. A stub remains a stub until all appropriate information is added on the topic. Unless you intend to complete the article, which is not to say doubtful but outside of the scope of the assignment, that notice will still remain. To clarify the article is flagged as a stub requiring more information and sources nothing more.

Thank you Monico for your help and quick responses. You have been very helpful. (Janedoe64 (talk)) —Preceding undated comment added 17:41, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

CCT110 2014 Help & Questions edit

Hi Monico, I have got a message on my talk page a while ago, saying that my article contains content from web sources: Potential copyright violations[edit] Youir recent additions to Water use include significant sections of text that have been copied verbatim from web sources including this and this. This is a direct infringement of the copyright of the source web-sites and is not acceptable in Wikipedia. Please also have a look at the rules on close paraphrasing. I have left your text for the moment as I understand that this is part of an educational project, but I would ask you to urgently modify your contribution to bring it into compliance with Wikipedia rules and policies. Thanks Velella Velella Talk 11:34, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

However, I have gone through those parts that was suggested by Velella, they are all the existing content made by others. I wonder if I should delete or change the content made by others, or just leave the message? Can I change the content on my behalf? I have submitted the wikipedia edits already, do I have to add this back if I change the content? I am really worried right now, will my article be deleted?

Thank you for you kind consideration :) Hochingli (talk) 07:16, 12 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
