Speedy deletion nomination of Gábor Megyeri
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Gábor Megyeri, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. January 2020
editHello Umaijetau. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, such as the edit you made to Gábor Megyeri, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Umaijetau. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Umaijetau|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. GSS 💬 05:27, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Response to GSS re: January 2020
editHello, Thanks for the message. I do not have a financial stake in the edits I have made; I have mostly been working on topics I am interested in/know a little about, either by editing the information or adding pages that exist on other versions of Wikipedia to the English Wikipedia site. I'm sorry if the article I translated does not meet Wikipedia guidelines -- perhaps I could edit it again to make it fit the guidelines better? Thanks for your guidance, I appreciate it. Umaijetau (talk) 06:04, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Do you know Gabor Megyeri personally or professionally? GSS 💬 06:17, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
I don't, no. I first heard about him related to the Mark Twain pen, and then realised he had a Wikipedia page on the Hungarian site but not the English site, so I thought I would translate it... Thanks, Umaijetau (talk) 06:25, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- Then where did you get this image from? GSS 💬 06:42, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
I got it from the website https://www.etelburg.com/ ... Umaijetau (talk) 06:58, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
- And what about your claim Source: From the owner (Gábor Megyeri)? GSS 💬 07:15, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
I meant from the owner's website. I have just seen your note on the Wikidata page -- I didn't realise this was copyright violation. I will take down the picture. Thanks. Umaijetau (talk) 07:19, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Blocked
editHaving checked your location and edits, and compared them to the information on your Upwork profile, I do not believe that you have no connection with Gabor Megyeri; you have evidently been employed by his publicists to translate the Wikipedia article about him into English, and have refused to disclose this affiliation. This is a violation of Wikipedia's Terms of Use - compounded by your repeated denials, above - and consequently I have blocked your account. Yunshui 雲水 09:28, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Request reason:
I understand that I have been blocked for undisclosed paid editing. I am sorry for this violation of Wikipedia policies, which I was not aware about before, and my attempts to conceal it when it was brought to my attention. I would particularly like to apologise to GSS for being dishonest in my response to his questions; my behaviour was inappropriate and I am very sorry. I would like to request to be unblocked, so that I can continue contributing to Wikipedia in a constructive way. I will make sure I adhere to the Wikipedia policies and code of conduct, particularly regarding conflict of interest, which I have now read and understand.Umaijetau (talk) 03:43, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
Decline reason:
We accept your apology. However, as a result of your dishonesty, you've shown very clearly we cannot trust you. Had you been honest, we could have worked with you. Yamla (talk) 11:11, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Since you were dishonest once, why should we believe you now? What topics are you interested in editing about, since you won't be permitted to make edits related to your conflict of interest? 331dot (talk) 09:39, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
In response to the question of what topics I am interested in editing about: my areas of interest are predominantly sciences and Indonesia. Although my account is relatively new, I have been making edits in these areas for a few years. I do understand and accept your reluctance to trust me; I wasn’t aware of the systems related to conflict of interest before, and I should have been open and honest when this was brought to my attention.
