26 February 2015 Malik, I'm sorry about the changes to the MLK page. I am a writing instructor and was teaching a lesson on why Wikipedia is great for housing research but can be unreliable when it comes to actual content (in other words, you wouldn't necessarily want to quote it). I was showing them that pretty much anyone can edit articles, and I guess I forgot to log out. I apologize for this oversight. -Guy Spriggs

Thanks for your response to my issue. I must say, however, that I am still confused. I understand that your filter caught something, but is there any way to know what it caught? I don't know what copyrighted information was contained in the Wikipedia entry I tried to save. I understand that you are busy, but is there any way you could explain further for me?

- Unfortunately I don't really understand edit filters, and I too have no way of knowing what it objected to in your attempted post. I saw that it had caught something, and so I looked at what you had tried to post, and discovered a copyright issue, so I thought it might help to let you know about that. - One of the names in the text you were posting is that of a figure who has been harassed and libeled by a banned editor with a distinctive style. That alone wouldn't trigger the filter, but the style of text you were using also did. If you want more details, please reply to the email I've sent you (the filter details are private so that the methods will be difficult to evade; the explanation will seem almost unbelievable anyway). Also, I want to make sure that there is not a copyright violation in here. If you are sure there is no text copied directly from another source or closely paraphrased, then I will be happy to post the information for you, butI think it needs to be cleaned up in other ways as well (the formatting of the section headers will come out looking strange, for example). I'm not sure it's adequately referenced either, but you seem to understand the need for references so that is a comparatively minor problem, Im sure. —Soap— 23:37, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I meant to post back here earlier. I started a section at User talk:JamesBWatson#Ukguyspriggs and he replied with what looks like a pretty convincing argument. I would not be willing to endorse the re-creation of a page that contained even a little bit of text from a copyrighted webpage; perhaps if you haven't got time to go over the whole article now you could post just a stub and expand it slowly? This would allow the other people viewing the page to help (though there's no guarantee anyone would; some articles sit for years with basically just one author). —Soap— 00:02, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
