Hi, in the course of my travels across Wikipedia I've been coming across a large number of copyvios being inserted into articles, and I've traced them back to a class being handled under the auspices of the India Education Program. At least 7 or 8 of the students in Wikipedia:India Education Program/Courses/Fall 2011/Economics of the Social Sector Year 2 Group A have "done" their assignments by pasting copyrighted text into already-existing articles. Most of these have now been reverted, and some revdel'd when possible, but I was wondering if you have any ability to speak to the instructors or students in the India program and ask them to stress to students that writing must be original and that we take copyright violation very, very seriously and they are risking getting blocked with such behavior, not to mention (presumably) failing their class. • Just because I follow Fluffernutter's talkpage; thanks for taking up the issue and responding so speedily - it's great to see someone take copyright concerns seriously, particularly because they are major problems. I agree that we should try to avoid disenchanting users while reverting the copyright violating additions, and we will try to be as pleasant as possible while doing this - but this does not change the fact that the additions will be reverted, as quickly as possible, and that repeat violations can lead to questions being asked about whether or not the user should be allowed to edit. I appreciate you bringing this to your students' attention, but it's also worth pointing out the penalties for failing to heed your warnings. Ironholds (talk) 21:59, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
    • Yeah, pretty much what Ironholds said. We understand that the students are still learning, and we'll be as gentle with them as we can, but if they do it repeatedly (which, to be fair, none of them seem to have done yet), we would still need to look into whether their editing privileges need to be suspended.
