Captains Log edit

Captains Log

Stardate 14.07.22

I have just received a message from @311dot with info about editing. I have also reviewed an article but not edited it. We will have to wait and see Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 10:07, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I would point out that this is not a place to pretend to be Captain Janeway, but a serious project to write an encyclopedia of human knowledge. Do you intend to make contributions to the encyclopedia? 331dot (talk) 12:41, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but Captain Janeway is a great name for me. Because Janeway is the captain of Voyager and it makes sense as my name is @U.S.S.VOYAGERNCC-1701. Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 12:57, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Having Janeway's name as your signature is fine. But making log entries and speaking as if you are her, especially without contributions to the project, could be seen at WP:NOTHERE. 331dot (talk) 13:02, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I can change that from stardate to date and Captains Log to my log, that ok? Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 13:11, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Do you know and like Star Trek @331dot Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 13:17, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I am familiar with and like Star Trek. 331dot (talk) 13:18, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Is it ok with you if I change Captains Log to My Log and Stardate to Date? Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 13:23, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm reluctant to tell you what you can and cannot do with your user page. I'm really just saying that it is best for you to be active in the project as a contributor in some way. 331dot (talk) 13:25, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can you tell me how to make an article. Cause I’m familiar with the editing process? Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 13:27, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
My advice is to first spend time editing existing articles, so you can get a feel for what is expected of article content and familiarize yourself with relevant Wikipedia policies like notability. Writing a new article is the most difficult task to perform on Wikipedia, and people who dive right in without enough experience often end up disappointed and with hurt feelings. I don't want you to have any bad feelings. However, if you want to create a new article now, please first use the new user tutorial, read Your First Article, and then visit Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft for review. You will need to gather at least three independent reliable sources with significant coverage of the topic you want to write about, and make sure the topic is notable. 331dot (talk) 13:30, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can I write an article about my favourite book?
Also I will look at it. Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 13:31, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can I write an article about my favorite book @331dot Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 14:04, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

That depends on if your favorite book meets the definition of a notable book. 331dot (talk) 14:37, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Is Harry Potter ok? He is notable in fantasy. First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 14:43, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
We already have articles about all the Harry Potter books and films, as well as many of the characters. I'd also urge you to settle on a signature (I see you signed with Chakotay's name) to avoid confusion. 331dot (talk) 14:44, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ok thanks man First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 14:45, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

July 2022 edit

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Joe Nanini, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you.   Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate that you enjoy using Wikipedia, please note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a social network. Wikipedia is not a place to socialize or write things that are not directly related to improving the encyclopedia. Off-topic material may be deleted at any time. We're sorry if this message has discouraged you from editing here, but the ultimate goal of this website is to build an encyclopedia. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 14:43, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Don’t be sorry. I forgot about that. @Theroadislong you didn’t discourage me from editing. I will always be a faithful editor First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 15:01, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Answering questions at the Teahouse edit

Thank for you for attempting to help, but please do not try to answer questions at the Teahouse until you have much, much more experience editing Wikipedia. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:00, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I do have much much more experience. I used to work here until I couldn’t open my account because of inactivity Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 14:01, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
That’s why I made a new one. I noticed yesterday that my account was not accessible but I forgot to make one yesterday so I made one today Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 14:03, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
The two edits you made to articles have been reverted. You show very little understanding of our policies and guidelines. I don't know what other account(s) you used - I'm going to assume you're telling the truth and are not evading a block - but you show every indication of being quite new here. Please listen to advice you are given. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:04, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well with those guidelines and those indications: I’m a little rusty with them so I asked. But for the future I will listen. Yours sincerely Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 14:06, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Again, please stop answering questions at the Teahouse until you've gained more experience. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:23, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
With all due respect, can’t we answer questions that we know the answer to, cause I had that same problem? Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 14:25, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
You didn't know the answer - your reply was incorrect. Accounts with the same name can't be created, but different accounts can use the same password. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:30, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Wait. Then why did the message box say that my password was the same as another account? First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 14:32, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I suspect that you misread the message box. For security reasons, that information would - or at least should - never be given out by any website to one of its users. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:35, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
With all due respect sir, i am sorry, I will make sure that I will not answer questions until I have more experience and I am very sorry sir. Yours sincerely First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 14:38, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Please STOP answering questions at The Teahouse as requested. Theroadislong (talk) 14:46, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sorry First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 14:47, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

ATTENTION! NEW SIGNATURE! edit

I have decided to change my signature to something else Captain Kathryn Janeway (talk) 14:28, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Both this and your new signature are in violation of our rules. Please change it. Primefac (talk) 17:47, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
With all due respect, may I ask how it is in direct violation? First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 17:52, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
WP:CUSTOMSIG/P says A customised signature should make it easy to identify your username, which yours does not. Additionally breaks It is common practice for a signature to resemble to some degree the username it represents. Primefac (talk) 17:58, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Do you have a suggestion on a custom signature? First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 17:59, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, make sure your actual username is in it. As stated at WP:SIG, it doesn't have to be the entire username, but enough that someone looking at your signature will have a good idea of who has just signed a post. Primefac (talk) 18:19, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
This better?Chakotay (talk) 18:38, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Is your username Chakotay? Primefac (talk) 18:41, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
No but it is related to voyager seeing as he is first officer. Chakotay (talk) 18:42, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
And only someone who watches the show will know that. Let me put it this way - your signature should have, at a bare minimum, the word "Voyager" visible in it. You could do "USS Voyager" or "Voyager NCC" or whatever you like, but you have to have some part of your actual username in your visible signature. Primefac (talk) 18:55, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

Are you here to actually do anything to improve the project, or just socialize? Because your contributions give me the impression that it's the latter. PRAXIDICAE🌈 15:07, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well… I am wanting to create a wikiproject, but as well create articles, improve the encyclopedia First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 15:08, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Why don't you start by actually doing that before you take on any projects because right now it just looks like you're being disruptive for the sake of it. PRAXIDICAE🌈 15:09, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Well I thought if I make a wiki project on Star Trek, seeing as there is none, I could create articles for that project, but I am having trouble making one. With all due respect, can you show me how to make a project? First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 15:12, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
There is and a 3 second search would reveal that: Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Trek PRAXIDICAE🌈 15:17, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
But one for Voyager. First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 15:17, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Can you help me make a project? First Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 15:22, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
There is already a VERY poor quality article on USS Voyager (Star Trek), you could help by improving it, we don't need a project as well. Theroadislong (talk) 15:23, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Your editing experience is so limited that it would be a very bad idea to attempt to create a new WikiProject at this time. Instead, create or improve a few articles first to see whether or not Wikipedia is for you. If you can show that you've stuck around and actually done some useful editing, other editors might be interested in any new proposal coming from you. But at this time it would be very unwise; you might cease editing at any moment, and we'd then be left with a mess of a half-hearted WikiProject to clean up. Just don't do it. Get some normal editing skills first. You can find a list of related article at Category:Star Trek: Voyager. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 16:28, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

July 2022 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

I understand what I did, and promise not tondo it’s againFirst Officer Commander Chakotay (talk) 18:28, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

You're a sock puppet of User:CLathrop202020. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:09, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

When you make an unblock request, it must not have the "nowiki" tags around it, this prevents proper display. Just highlight and copy the coding when viewing this page, then open the edit window and paste it. 331dot (talk) 18:42, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

You are going to need to go into more detail, in order to demonstrate your understanding. What have you done wrong? What will you do differently in the future? What specific contributions do you wish to make to this project to write an encyclopedia of human knowledge? 331dot (talk) 18:43, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well, I have, according to @Cullen328, been doing disruptive editing. In the future I will not be so disruptive. The contributions are:
improving articles, making new articles and expanding this digital encyclopedia. Chakotay (talk) 18:47, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just remove "nowiki" in it. 100.11.127.115 (talk) 18:44, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

quick question. What’s a nowiki? Chakotay (talk) 18:48, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
"Nowiki" refers to the coding that you had(perhaps inadvertently) around your unblock request that I removed, which looked like this: <nowiki></nowiki> That suppressed the proper display of your request, it is fixed now. 331dot (talk) 18:51, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • But what was disruptive about your editing? 331dot (talk) 18:52, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I was to busy editing my own page. I think that was disruptive Chakotay (talk) 18:56, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
And I have used this talk page as social media. Chakotay (talk) 18:56, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
    Which I won’t do in the future Chakotay (talk) 18:58, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Okay. So what will you do instead? Can you give an example of a specific edit you want to make to the encyclopedia? 331dot (talk) 19:00, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
