Notable former players has already been done, its 2-3 sections below where you added your own. No worries, easy mistake to make. Have removed it as it would be in the page twice...

Notable players edit

Hi there. I've reverted your additions to the notable players section of the Middlesbrough F.C. article. While there can be many, many players classed as notable over the history of the football club, listing each and every one of them wouldn't really be a great way of solving the issue. This is a typically accepted practice across other articles, especially those already at Featured Article status and the like.

The MFC article underwent a peer review and Good Article review at some point in the not too distant past, and one of the issues raised was the need to have a clearly defined way of deciding who was notable, as the list was being populated with editors arbitrarily adding players, with a big bias towards recent players, and a lack of players from the earlier years. Most appearances, top goalscorers, and legends as voted for in a quantifiable vote were decided as good ways of deciding notability with a lack of other MFC notability ideas received. So on the basis of this decision I reverted your additions, however any suggestions on any other quantifiable reasons for adding more categories of notability would be most appreciated. --Simmo676 (talk) 01:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is not really possible to include every single thing in the one article about the club. Fabrizio Ravanelli only made 52 appearances for the club, and was here for just over one season. While he is very notable for that season, he is not regarded as "as notable" as the players voted as legends by the fans themselves with the Evening Gazette. Branco only made 9 league appearances for the side! Gianluca Festa made a lot more, however you could argue that a lot of other players that made even more appearances and they too are not listed. From my work in progress list of players make names like Colin Cooper, Curtis Fleming, Lindy Delapenha, Paul Ince and Craig Hignett notably absent as well. Not to mention all those players who very good in their time but whom few people can remember. The criteria for notability were established to prevent such recent-bias.
When I've finished the list then there will be a list of all these notable players, however Ravanelli would still not qualify to be on it. However, that doesn't mean he has no mention at all. He and many others are included in the History of Middlesbrough F.C. article, the Middlesbrough F.C. records article, and as he was top scorer in his sole season he's included in the Middlesbrough F.C. seasons article. So to say he's not mentioned is wrong. It's just not possible to include every single thing in one article, but we make up for that by having multiple ones with more specialised information. --Simmo676 (talk) 13:17, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
