Your user pages

edit

Hi, it seems you created a duplicate of Draft:Frank van Diggelen on your user page. I've deleted that, so your user page is now empty (I left your COI disclosure there, of course). I also deleted the project templates that the draft automatically posted here on your user talk page. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 04:54, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Greenman
Thank you for your feedback. I have only just been able to return to this task this week 2/5/2023, and when I tried to update my draft page for Frank_van_Diggelen, I received a message from Schminnte that the page already exists and I shouldn't make mass changes to it. It appears that Schminnte has created a page on Jan 27th, largely based on content I had drafted plus some additional research. It also contains personal information about his family that may not be appropriate in this case. Is this a legitimate thing for Schminnte to do? It appears (s)he copied large chuncks of the material I already created. How do they have access to my draft page? Please advise if action needs to be taken. Troywan (talk) 18:20, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Troywan: I did not "copy" the draft you made. The way I came across Van Diggelen was through researching IEEE fellows, whom I have created some articles on already. When attempting to create the page, I noticed that your draft had been rejected, so deliberately started my own draft so that it would have a better chance to be accepted. I copied none of your work: I assure you, even if I did, you have released your edits under the CC 3.0 license purely by making them. I stand by my actions, as there is consensus not to allow the draft you created into the article mainspace, per this AfC decline by @Greenman. If you really feel I have done something wrong, you should try the steps laid out in Wikipedia:Dispute resolution, although I believe I have not done anything wrong. (Also, it is customary to notify people when you have issues by pinging them.) I hope this clears up anything for you and other observers. Thanks, Schminnte (talk contribs) 16:55, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also, see Wikipedia:Ownership of content. The policy states that "Work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used, and redistributed—by anyone". As such, it is not "your draft". I do take offence at you saying I copied large chunks of the text you wrote, see this comparison of any similar text. Schminnte (talk contribs) 16:58, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I will not pursue this any further. I will say that, given you state "I noticed that your draft had been rejected, so deliberately started my own draft" (s/ as if I was unlikely to fix the issues pointed out by @Greenman), that would have been the time to politely contact me, and ask if you could take over the page. That would have been common courtesy. Troywan (talk) 02:04, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry you feel that way. It was meant as no slight to you, when looking through your contributions I saw that you hadn't been active since October, so assumed you had left. When you say "as if I was unlikely to fix the issues pointed out", you can imagine how it looked to me: finding a draft with no edits for two months. As you are now back, please free to make edits to the page: it's just that you need consensus for major changes like completely substituting a page. That was my only issue. Thanks, Schminnte (talk contribs) 10:22, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Frank van Diggelen

edit

Hello there. I noticed that you replaced the article Frank van Diggelen with your draft. I have reverted your edit as you shouldn't make mass changes to an article without seeking consensus on the talk page, especially as your draft was previously declined by AfC. I hope you can see why I've done this. Schminnte (talk contribs) 08:53, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
