Regarding your message on my talk page: I have no idea if this article belongs at Wikipedia or not, so I will not make any statement about whether it should or should not ultimately be deleted. In order to avoid deletion, you need to establish that the subject of the article meets the minimum standards outlined at WP:GNG. This doesn't have much to do with the article text, per se, but it has to do with the subject. The deal is, there needs to be significant coverage of the topic in independent sources. So, if you are interested in saving the article, you need to establish that this Championship has been written about by people who aren't associated with the Championship. The coverage needs to be significant (more than just a few sentences), and the coverage needs to appear in reliable sources (see WP:RS). If those source exist, simply edit the article to include them, and mention the existance of the sources at the AFD discussion. If the sources do not exist, then there's nothing that can be done. --Jayron32 23:58, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

50th Redlands International Cadet Australian Championship

Hi! I noticed you ran into some problems with this article - I was hoping that I could help. As a general rule it is difficult for a particular event to meet Wikipedia's notability requirements - it is possible, but they have to be large enough to get mainstream media coverage, and for most national sporting events that doesn't happen. There is occasionally an exception - in particular for special events, such as the 50th - but that is something best judged after the event. However, it is a different case for the championships in general. I think that International Cadet Australian Championship is a viable article, so I'm going to give it shot and see if I can dig up enough sources. (Unfortunately my boat is a tad bigger, so I don't have much on the dinghy classes, but luck holding I'll find enough). The relevant content out of 50th Redlands International Cadet Australian Championship could be merged to the more general article, with a redirect left for now. Then if the event gets enough media coverage, we could spin off the 50th championship into its own article once more, presuming that it receives mainstream attention, or leave it as a significant part of the championship article.

If that's ok with you I'll try and get the new article started. If you have any sources on the championship in general, or on the previous races, it would be great to be able to add them. - Bilby (talk) 11:09, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

The results table should be fine after the championships are run - the only issue at the moment is that a blank table makes the article look incomplete, and so the rule is not to add it until there is information to put in. I'll get to work on the article and see what I can do - hopefully I'll have something for you before the morning. :) - Bilby (talk) 11:29, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

I've created an article at International Cadet Australian Championship. As I had to rely on sources I had access to, it is a bit spotty, but would, I think, satisfy the notability requirements, so it shouldn't have any problems being kept. I've included most of your text from the other article, and acknowledged the source in the history - I've reworded a tad for neutrality, but it is almost all there. If you're happy with this I'll propose a merger/redirect in the deletion discussion. I don't envision any problems with adding the forthcoming results to the 50th Championship section. I wish I could go, if only to get photographs, but unfortunately I'm committed to being somewhere off the SA coast after Christmas - I probably won;t even have phone access for a week or so. :( - Bilby (talk) 14:31, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
