EliveLinux moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, EliveLinux, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. June 2020 edit

Hello, Triantares, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Thanatermesis (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. You may also declare it on your user page.

EditQwerty (talk) 20:59, 14 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@EditQwerty: To be clear I only have one account, this one. Others did help me out (in true FOSS manner) on my other submission (Elive), which we saw as a joint effort but eventually got so messy that I decided to do a fresh start on my own. Frankly I didn't know that submitting an article created a steward like accountability for edits done by others. :/

Triantares (talk) 06:06, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Triantares: I'm not accusing you of sockpuppetry: it just seems a bit fishy. If you do have any alternate accounts, please declare it on your user page as Wikipedia takes it very seriously. A CheckUser can see your IP address and check if the account is the same. EditQwerty (talk) 10:22, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

@EditQwerty:

No worry, there's only one account. thanatermesis (talk · contribs) is founder and sole developer of Elive and direct source of historic knowledge.

Managing a conflict of interest edit

Hello, Triantares. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Elive, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Would you like to declare a connection? -- Yae4 (talk) 12:47, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Well if using Elive as an OS and being a participant in their online community is considered a connection then yes, that would need a declaration. Personally I don't think it should.
This Elive community is so small that I am considered the 'go to' entity when it comes to writing (or correcting) English prose, that's all.
And if merely pointing to the existence of Elive on WP constitutes promotion or publicizing (which it always does IMO) then I'm most certainly guilty of that. IMHO anything to do with software (maybe even any fabricated product too) on WP always comes down to "the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything", whatever way you look at it.
IMO FOSS efforts in general do deserve a more lenient approach in such matters, than i.e proprietary commercial products. This naturally includes WP itself, so was actually kind of taken for granted by me.... but maybe I'm wrong there. Triantares (talk) 13:12, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
See: WP:NOTHERE and WP:MEAT. -- Yae4 (talk) 14:37, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Adding: You may be surprised to know I partly agree with the last, for sourcing, but disagree regarding strong COI editing. It happens a lot, and results are many biased articles, which is not good. -- Yae4 (talk) 14:17, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

May 2023 edit

Hi Triantares! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Elive several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Elive, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. FYI "Several times" is standard wording. I'm not counting, yet, but beware WP:3RR. --. Yae4 (talk) 14:18, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I couldn't do an 'undo' as that would've changed a lot more, so I made the change with the reasons mentioned in the comment, knowing you would jump on it if you disagreed.
To be clear: I don't see the issue of 'self published' in External Links. In reality all those links are 'self published' by design. Triantares (talk) 14:49, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Userbox suggestion edit

Triantares, Regarding your user page statements on WP:COI: A person once wrote,

"Be carefull about going around and adding [deleted] all over the place. Although it might feel like "as it should be", it will send WP moderators in a flurry if they get the impression you're abusing WP for PR (which in fact you are  )."

If one finds oneself thinking or saying similar things, or planning and coordinating efforts to make a project look better at Wikipedia or Distrowatch, or other places, then one certainly has a WP:COI on the topic, and should expect unconnected editors to observe the COI and resulting bias in articles. "Someone having a conflict of interest is a description of a situation, not a judgment about that person's opinions, integrity, or good faith. COI editing is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. It undermines public confidence..." Indeed, no one should have much confidence in most WP articles, partly because this type of biased editing behavior is widespread at WP. Anyway, why not simply use the {{UserboxCOI}} template for any projects, such as Elive, where you have a close connection? -- Yae4 (talk) 01:04, 3 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Well, like I've stated before .... it's a practical impossibility to write about something you've no connection to or know nothing about.
So I agree that any article submission should be scrutinized for WP:COI, especially where financial gains are concerned but: Deeming any connection or collaboration as 'close' is actually over the edge IMO, merely feeding distrust and a condescending attitude.
Hence my putting that disclaimer there and not using {UseboxCOI} which does not cater for what I want to express: That impartiality is a noble aim but practically impossible to attain.
Political comments lately in the EU, included looking at how people could have a formal right to alter or define the WP article or entry about their person. That would make WP:COI totally moot or even illegal. Triantares (talk) 12:39, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
True, simply being a donor, or a regular user, or a participant, or having an interest in a topic, is not an issue: WP:NOTCOI. It doesn't have to be an infobox... Thanatermesis and TheTechRobo3641 saw the light. Have fun. -- Yae4 (talk) 14:10, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! edit

Hello, Triantares, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. ANI Notification edit

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Yae4 (talk) 13:08, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Well, I didn't want to go that far but it is after all your choice to make. Asking a 'block' without any discussion is quite a thing and sort of proves my point.
Apparently you derive some pleasure of being in a position to force people into doing stuff at your whim without any discussion whatsoever. Then when meeting resistance you call it attacks.
Anyway I do not intend to go into discussion creating a yes/no situation about the block demand, I really have better things to do.
I doubt anybody is going to really read into your points/links there in and will probably 'OK' your demand, as it's the easiest path to take.
Bye bye, Triantares (talk) 13:46, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Your edits show years of disregard for Wikipedia guidance and norms, including most recently, WP:CIVIL. Based on our previous discussion of WP:COI above, your edits adding unsourced statements, and your reaction to having it reverted, additional discussion between us seemed unlikely to be worthwhile. Adios. -- Yae4 (talk) 16:43, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Elive edit

A comment from a forum moderator on Elive (diff 1161126382) seems to state that you're a forum administrator on Elive. Are you willing to at least declare a connection to Elive? Dawnbails (talk) 20:46, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

That editor who quoted the moderator is currently under heavy discussion and apparently has resigned.
Being active on a forum or even as an administrator is an overzealous one-sided COI interpretation of his. I did not and do not agree in anyway, as I have publicly stated...nor do others.
BTW This looks like an obvious ploy to move away from the previous slanderous comment of yours in regard to a "ripoff" of another text.
A simple retraction and excuse would've been more graceful. Triantares (talk) 10:25, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't see what your issue with me is here, and I don't see how I was being slanderous. An admin mentioned in the last AfD that it was copied from HandWiki and I happened to miss your reply stating that it came from Simple, and I apologised for that, which you proceeded to leave a passive-aggressive reply back offering that I was being slanderous and biased. I have no relation to the other editor and I'm not trying to "move away" from the talk page, I'm just asking if you want to actually declare a connection to Elive, since it is quite clear that you at least have a minor connection to Elive.
I understand that you're very passionate about Elive, but you're being rather combative towards me for simply asking if you'd like to declare a connection to Elive as you are both an administrator on the forum as declared by the moderator I mentioned in the previous reply and (if Triantares on GitHub is you, which I'm assuming it is given the overlap) you frequently work on Elive-related repositories and projects. This ranges from WP:ACTUALCOI at best and WP:APPARENTCOI at worst, and while I'm not attacking you or saying anything about your edits, your specific focus on and relationship to Elive along with a statement from a moderator for the forums of Elive is enough to show that there is a clear conflict of interest here. As I said on the other comment I left on Talk:Elive, I highly encourage you to read up on WP:AGF and calm down with the notion that I'm somehow trying to slander you or the article over a simple mistake I made with not seeing your original comment on the AfD. Dawnbails (talk) 23:23, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
In reference to the slander:
Using the word "ripoff" (not "copy" or "use") does create a sense of bias. Even if as you state you only parroted what was commented in that AfD without reading the next line.
I will leave it to your own discretion what that makes you look like.
As to the COI question:
Besides having already publicly stated my stance on overzealous COI accusations, it would seem that:
Whether I have a COI or not has become fairly moot considering every edit I made has been changed or deleted. Practically all the text in the article has been either revised or completely rewritten by you and the resigned editor "yae4". So I'm not fully in the clear what you're trying to achieve here and frankly, I don't really care.
Believe me, I'm totally calm and certainly not angry, combative or vindictive in any way but I would recommend that you yourself read that WP:AGF a tad more carefully than you did the mentioned AfD and stop throwing dirt around in the hope that it will stick.
