License tagging for Image:Angel glacier mt edith cavell.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Angel glacier mt edith cavell.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:05, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Commons edit

Hi, when uploading images, you might wish to upload free images you made to Commons, instead of directly to English Wikipedia. This makes them directly useable in English Wikipedia, and all version of Wikipedia, and other WikiMedia projects. It also allows showing images in a gallery, beyond what's supported in article. For instance, you could add Image:Summerstock footloose 02.jpg to Commons:Summerstock Conservatory, which is linked to from the main article. Or somebody could make a French language version of the article, and share the pictures. Anyhow, this is just a suggestion. --Rob 01:34, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

GeoGroupTemplate edit

Hi there, that GeoGroupTemplate is really useful - rather than just add it to a couple of the requested photograph pages, what about adding it to {{Howtoreqphotoin}} so that it appears on the lot of them? I'll do that now - if it looks like I'm reverting you on category pages it'll just be where I'm pulling off the template where it's now appearing as a duplicate... hope that makes sense? Stevenage edit

Just wanted to say thanks for taking some photos of Stevenage. I wanted to (and it would be easy as I live there), but I don't own a camera. Did you come on a Sunday? It's a shame, because the place looks empty and it's not typical. A busy Saturday afternoon would have been better! You'll have to come back! anemone|projectors 23:03, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comments on the photographs. They were taken just after sun-rise during the week. The intention was to take photos of the buildings without people but I do agree with you they need to be complemented by images of a living town. I will keep it in mind, but it may be some time before I am in that part of the world again, particularly during shopping hours.
Traveler100 (talk) 09:57, 17 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I guessed it was either early morning or a Sunday. Maybe I'll buy myself a decent camera and take some photos myself. anemone|projectors 11:56, 17 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

UKCOUNTIES? edit

Hello Traveler100/archive1! I Hope all is well. I'm contacting you as part of your continued membership of WP:UK Geography.

In addition to some cosmetic upgrades I've made/requested for the project, I'm considering a draft upgrade of the Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about counties guide, so that it is much more user friendly and at a standard more akin to the WP:UKCITIES standard.

Of course I'd like to have you involved from the start. If you have any concerns or ideas, I'd be grateful if you could leave them at my talk page, where I'll pool together some ideas from some other users and then report back with them. My initial thoughts are they should inline with the existing policy on counties as well as allow for flexibility for ENG/SCO/WLS/NI. Hope you can help, -- Jza84 · (talk) 22:18, 17 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I left the reqphoto quite vague because I came across the word 'majordomo' in Henry James's 1875 novel [Roderick Hudson]], and I wasn't sure if he meant someone who looks after a canal/acequia. And the character who has a majordomo is American...Zigzig20s (talk) 18:11, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:Photoreq edit

I'm trying to consolodate Template:Reqphoto. Template:Photoreq is one of fourteen templates that redirect to Template:Reqphoto. I've cleared out most of them. If you have the time, would you go through each of the Pages that link to Template:Photoreq and have then directly link to Reqphoto (e.g., switch out Photoreq for Reqphoto on each article talk page. Thanks. GregManninLB (talk) 02:32, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pages that link to Template:Picture needs to be directly link to Reqphoto as well. GregManninLB (talk) 03:17, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I notice that Category:Wikipedia requested photographs is growing quicker than I can remove articles :-) . As I go through adding subjects to the template I do change it to reqphoto or to needimage in a project and remove any of the other older templates. It is however a very slow process. The Picture template will not be to big an issue but with the photoreq some have subject and place values; is there any advantage to just replacing the template without adding more detail?Traveler100 (talk) 20:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Replacing Template:Photoreq and Template:Picture will concentrate all pages in Template:Reqphoto. Once that is done, we can get an overview of Template:Reqphoto and figure out a better way. For example, I am (slowly) incorporating the location request of Template:Reqphoto into the WikiProject U.S. state templates so that we can get rid of Template:Reqphoto on articles having United States topics. GregManninLB (talk) 19:16, 14 April 2008 (UTC

reqphoto edit

Why are you adding a reqphoto category which doesn't exist?Zigzig20s (talk) 18:22, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am trying to reduce the number of image requests in the top level and place them somewhere useful so others can actually address them; moving to in=locations and subject sub-categories that project teams are watching. The group in question has been getting in the way and, as you say, it does not have a category. I did not however want to get into the argument about if this is appropriate type of photograph for Wikipedia or not, so though someone who in active in that subject could create the page and decide in which category that sub-category belongs in. The articles still have a reqphoto tag and are now removed from the 3000 mixed collection and group together. Traveler100 (talk) 18:36, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't really get it. For instance, this George Weinberg (psychologist) would probably be a reqphotoin|United States, or possibly NYC...It would at least appear in a category...Where do the tags go after ur edits?Zigzig20s (talk) 01:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I can see this one is not optimum, I base the classification on what WikiProject templates are on the page, usually works. It is better then just putting it into the top reqphoto group with thousands of other non related articles. The idea is to bring the request to the attention of people, which it has, to then improve on it. This article should have a WPBiography template or at least {{reqphoto|people}}. If you can see a better sub-category then please improve it. On a related point, if you are going to invest the time in adding reqphoto tags to lots of pages please place them in a topic group, there is a better chance of someone seeing it and it being addressed. Traveler100 (talk) 05:45, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't always have time to find a good category that goes with the tag, but frankly I don't agree with your adding a tag that doesn't exist. I do think my reqphoto's should sometimes be finetuned, but please do sort them in existing categories.Zigzig20s (talk) 15:10, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request Assistance with Kyrgyzstan requested photos edit

Hi - I noticed that you are active with the requested photo project, so I decided to ask for your assistance with this. If you can't help, don't worry, I'm asking several others also. I am currently in Kyrgyzstan. I have a camera, and I am very willing to take pictures of anything and everything that is missing from wiki. However, the List of requested photographs in Kyrgyzstan is very underpopulated compared to the amount of Kyrgyzstan geography stubs. Could someone please tag the talkpages of stub articles of places that need pictures with {{reqphotoin}}? I'd do it myself but the internet and computers here aren't going to help that happen. If you want to explain company logo, please use its (low quality) logo. if you want to explain its productions, use a low quality version of this image. Believe me, this huge size is unneeded. I'd tag it if OKBot did not.--OsamaKReply? on my talk page, please 20:12, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I disagree, the logo on the photograph is small (and distorted). Any lower resolution and informative detail of the product will be lost.
What about cropping the logo only?--OsamaKReply? on my talk page, please 20:20, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
it is an image to not just show logo but packaging and the product itself.
It is not your option or mine at the end. There are limited exceptions that allow using of non-free contents under the fair use policy in the U.S copyright law; but I do not see any reason to use this huge version; People who want to see a larger version should go to its source, Wikipedia is not a place for that.--OsamaKReply? on my talk page, please 19:29, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
People cannot go to the source easily, it is a product only available in the UK. reqphotos again edit

Isn't it better to categorise them within locations where they might be photographed? I don't always add the location because it's not always easy to know where they live. I assume some people will have more time to figure that out.Zigzig20s (talk) 16:24, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

my message was not about location. Just about moving request on photo of people to the correct sub-category, i.e. people. Can maybe also add other categories such as political topic. Location can however be useful, does not mean people can not be find else where, the categorization is to get the request to the attention of people who can address it not encyclopedic classification of the article.

done, although anyone can create the category.

Friction "photoreq" edit

Hi...I see that you changed the "imagereq" to a "photoreq". I don't believe that what you really want is a "photo", as in a real picture of friction. Instead, I suspect that you want a "diagram" or "illustration" showing the phenomenon. As such I had changed it a "imagereq" previously, and still believe it should be that. Wizard191 (talk) 14:43, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was not sure myself if it would be possible to havea useful photograph. Have added diagram request, but kept the reqphoto physics category, shouldthen get the attention of people who could help. what about this:-File:Friction.svg
I don't know what a useful photo would look like for friction, but I suppose it can't hurt.
As for the file you noted, that file has one major flaw: the exploded view that implies surface roughness is the source of friction, which is flat wrong. There's been a couple discussions about it, plus the image was originally in the article and then removed due to the above note. Another user said that he/she would correct that image to make it publishable, however, as far as I know, it has not be completed. If it isn't taken care of soon I have the abilities to modify it. "Images needed" template edit

Hi, Traveler100. This template advises editors This article will benefit from appropriate images. Please take note of the plural. I very much appreciate your good efforts to respond to this template by inserting images, but please don't delete the template just because you added a single image. Sometimes the addition of one image satisfies the need (e.g. Japanese Domestic Market), and sometimes it does not (e.g. Chrysler Slant-6 engine). Longer articles and those covering more intricate topics often benefit from more photos than shorter articles about simpler topics. Please use your good judgement and discretion when choosing whether or not to delete the images-needed template after adding an image. Likewise, please use good judgement and discretion when choosing where and how to place images. It's usually best not to just dump a couple images one right above another at the top of an article, as you appear to have done at Japanese domestic market. Generally we use one image at the top of an article, preferably one that does a good job of illustrating the general topic of the article, and additional images are distributed throughout the article for further illustration. Finally, please keep in mind that infobox images don't use the "thumb" tag in the markup, for it creates an unsightly double border. Instead, we explicitly tag the size of the image. Other projects' infoboxes may vary, but in the automobiles project, our infoboxes are a uniform 250px wide, so that's the correct size tag to use when placing images in infoboxes. Thanks! —Scheinwerfermann T·C21:01, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Requested photos edit

In fact, I simply use FIST to find which articles need photos; it's not easy to find articles needing photos using the categories. I add templates all the time but don't know how to find articles needing photos that way; I just leave it for someone else. As I've been here for 4 years and don't know how to do that, it says something for the lack of visibility. I suggest making a task force for adding photos and making it very easy to find articles needing photos, in the area of interest of each editor. Wiktionary used to have a "requested tasks" on their main page, a very good idea! Badagnani (talk) 06:18, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Do you think adding a link to FIST on the request photo category pages would help, maybe automatically filling in the fields?
I have tried adding the photo request categories for specific topics to WikiProject pages that match. DO you see any other ways to make them visible?Traveler100 (talk) 07:20, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

re Image Checker Enhancement edit

Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to capture all appropriate images, but I can quite easily create a blacklist of images - though I don't really have the time to create a proper list, you are welcome to and I'll incorporate it, and even better if there's a few simple rules - for example, I'm currently excluding images with filenames "containing 'stub'", "containing 'flag'" and "not containing 'jpg'", if you catch my drift. Hmm, I've just had a thought actually - there may be a way to grab a list of images that would otherwise fit the bill linked to from stub templates, saving everyone a great deal of work. I'll look into it tonight / tomorrow. (If I forget, ping me for updates.) - Jarry1250 (t, c) 11:51, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh, fantastic. Now I've just got to make that a blacklist. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 16:59, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Done You should find the tool much improved now with that blacklist - not just for images of plants, but for everything. And because I'm a genuinely nice guy I even built you and the other hard-working souls a page where you can add to the blacklist manually (linked to from the main page). Enjoy! Just shout if you hit any problems (there may be some bugs to iron out.) - Jarry1250 (t, c) 17:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I just worked out that the mechanism for adding to the blacklist was broken. It should be fixed now, with previous additions intact. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 12:02, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Requested photo for Shmuel Bornsztain (I) edit

Hi, I clicked on the link you suggested to find photos and found a great one of this subject on the Hebrew Wikipedia. But it is not on Wikipedia Commons, and I have no idea how to download it. The file name is קובץ:Shem mishmuel.jpg. What do I do now? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 15:10, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It is a little involved. First from the image on the other wiki site click on the large image text. Then in your browser right mouse button Save Image As. This copies it to your machine. Then log into Commons and press the upload option. Fourth option down is upload from other wiki project. Note there is a tool to generate the info text on the upload page. As far as I know there is no easier way.Traveler100 (talk) 16:28, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation. I understand what to do now. Unfortunately, the picture seems to have been lifted from a book and placed on the Hebrew Wikipedia. As soon as I uploaded it, including all the information on the Hebrew file page, Wikimedia Commons nominated it for speedy deletion. Yoninah (talk) 20:46, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Schloss Biebrich edit

A tag has been placed on Schloss Biebrich requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. in=Netherlands v. in=The Netherlands edit

Hi Trav. Thanks for fixing up photo requests. Is it possible to redirect the photo requests for in=Netherlands so they go to in=The Netherlands? I couldn't figure out how. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:28, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rollback? edit

Hello. Recently I noticed your anti-vandal work on the Wikipedia:Requested pictures page. The easiest way to clean up vandalism and spam is via the rollback tool. If you are willing to abide by the rollbacker rules (see WP:ROLLBACK), I would be more than happy to grant you access to this function. If, after reading WP:ROLLBACK, you promise to follow the rollback rules to the best of your ability, just drop a quick message on my talk page saying as much and I will update your rights. Thanks again for your help in keeping Wikipedia clear of vandalism! — Kralizec! (talk) 15:03, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your request for rollback edit

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! — Kralizec!
