Red Warbler range map edit

Putting a range map in the taxobox is a long-standing convention here on the English wikipedia. I'm not going to immediately revert this, but I have requested comment on the Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Birds page, if you'd like to contribute your reasons for changing this. Hand-coding edit

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:37, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Siberian Nuthatch edit

While I can see that this might be a candidate for species status, apart from the quoted paper I haven't myself come across any indication that species status has been accepted by any relevant national or international body or major secondary source. I'm not objecting to the article, but it would be helpful if it was supported by references other than to just one primary source, cheers Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:33, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Jimfbleak: Hi Jim, I have no opinion about how you should consider it on the Wikipedia in English. What I know is that the French language one decided to follow IOC classification, in which S. arctica is recognized as a true species. They follow Zink et al. 2006, Red'kin & Konovalova 2006 and Collar 2007. I am quite neutral about whether it's accurate or not to treat this taxon as a species. Let me know what you think about this. :) Totodu74 (talk) 16:00, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
By the way, I take here the time to say how much I am happy to see your great work on European species (and others). Sooner or later, I likely will translate the Eurasian Nuthatch's one into French. :) Totodu74 (talk) 16:06, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
One more thing, coming up to my mind, you could be interested by hybrids between subspecies and close related species. Hybrids in Nuthatches are summarized here, based on the McCarthy book Handbook of Avian Hybrids of the World. Kind regards, Totodu74 (talk) 16:26, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, one of my refs is actually in French, so that's a start (: As I say, I think giving it full species status may be jumping the gun a bit, but as long as you don't mind it staying as a ssp at the main article for the time being, I don't mind it being a full sp at yours. All is good. I've seen the hybrid page, but HBW recognises amurensis as a valid ssp, so no problem at the moment. I might add it as footnote at some stage Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:34, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
I absolutely don't mind if you consider it is better to treat it as a ssp. HBW is at least as relevant as IOC for birds taxonomy, actually. For amurensis, I know it's often treated as a valid subspecies, I'm just reflecting what McCarthy is saying, using a conditional tense :) Totodu74 (talk) 18:28, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
For dating of different clades, do you havve access to the Pasquet's phylogeny from 2 weeks ago? I can send you this one. For example the family is given from early Miocene (for now you only talk about S. senogalliensis from lower Miocene). This is a great pulication for the small Nuthatches world ^^ Regards, Totodu74 (talk) 21:04, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for March 24 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Oncopus, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ICZN (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Introducing myself edit

Hey, I notice you've worked on some bat articles lately. Thanks for making the improvements and creating missing articles! I also work on bat content regularly. If you're interested, there's a loose association of editors, as well as resources, project statistics, missing articles, and more, at the bats work group. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be seeing you around! Wiki Science Competition 2019 edit

Hi, we are organizing the 2019 edition of WikiScienceCompetition, also in Switzerland, if you are interested let me know. I would like you to be a juror and I am drafting a financial plan for WMCH.

Also, we are creating a new User group that acts as a global coordination project on meta for scientific subjects. See m:Science Wiki User Group. It will take some months to shape it but we are very motivated. Specifically, one of the main target of the group are people with an academic degree and/or who are involved in scientific research in real life, we want to reach out to the scientific community through that way. Please join us, especially if you have a sufficient knowledge meta since we are still building it (we will translate the page in the future when its identity is stable). Every comment is welcome (see the talk page). One of the topic of this UG is to provide an official support also for event such as WSC in the future.--Alexmar983 (talk) 23:38, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your edits in Natural History Museum of Geneva edit

[1]:

Please explain how Louis Jurine was associated with the museum, preferably in his bio and a short comment in this list. Now the bio says that his collection is at the museum. When I was creating this list, I found than collections of a large number of people are stored at the museum, many of them donated posthumously. Meaning that this fact does not automatically mean an association of this person with the museum. Loew Galitz (talk) 22:14, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merry Christmas edit

  Merry Christmas
Your work is impressive at the French wiki, especially on bird articles. Yunnan nuthatch and Chestnut-vented nuthatch are in the process, while Krüper's nuthatch still awaiting for citation help by other editors. Merry Christmas!
Thank you very much for your kind message! I wish you all the best too for the end of the year, and thank you for your help with illustrations. The last two images you(?) were able to free are great!! Cheers, Totodu74 (talk) 00:19, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Those images are beautiful, so without hesitation, I requested them immediately in the comment section, but unfortunately for Yunnan nuthatch, I can't convince them [2]. 2001:4455:1A9:E100:557A:CBB9:4DCF:663E (talk) 00:25, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
We'll have to be patient for this one, but meanwhile I have a very fine drawing I have specially ordered few months back. I need to take the time of taking it out of its frame and digitalize it on a good scanner some day. Totodu74 (talk) 00:40, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Isn't that tiresome? I requested another 2 images of the Yunnan nuthatch, but with a different owner this time and not a decent image like the 2 we've uploaded recently. Maybe there's a chance. I think I'm done translating nuthatches articles. As you can see, I'm having trouble citing ref 5 at White-browed nuthatch and especially nearly all Krüper's nuthatch, but without your content in French, this article would never be expanded that much. Keep up the good work on there :D. 2001:4455:1A9:E100:983C:A642:9150:905C (talk) 11:41, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
