Orphaned non-free media (Image:800px-The cloud gate.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:800px-The cloud gate.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:14, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for volunteering. You won't be asked the same questions as that, because, of course, the questions have to be appropriate to the respective project. I'll draw them up within a few hours. Regards, Rudget 11:25, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

- I (and a few others) have noticed that some of the FAs claimed by the project were mainly by independent editors not affiliated with the Chicago project itself. I personally wish to appropriate the numbers so it matches to the true number; but what is your opinion before I do do it? Rudget 20:00, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Take a look at Wikipedia:Meetup/Chicago 3 -- let me know what dates you'd be available, how far you'd be willing to travel, etc., and maybe we can organize an event. best — Dan | talk 18:27, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
A-class for chicago
Do I understand that you want the ChicagoWikiProject template to perform in the same way as the Milhist template with regards to the A-Class review structure? I can do that for you if that is the case. Regards. Woody (talk) 18:45, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, after looking into it, the Chicago banner uses the generic Template:WPBannerMeta. WPMILHIST uses its own template instructions which I think you will need to adopt for Chicago if you want the A-Class to mirror the MILHIST one. The best person to do that would be Kirill, he did the MILHIST one and it works absolutely perfectly. I am sure he would help if you asked. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but a complete template overhaul is above my expertise. Regards. Woody (talk) 19:03, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Sometimes reorganizing an article completely does wonders. And it can be quite easy to do, with some flexible thinking! —Mattisse (Talk) 22:33, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- One thing I have been thinking about: Jaume Plensa is not an architect, he is an artist. Some of of details addressed in the article are engineering issues, it seems to me, not architectural. Also, the word "t-bar", what is that in terms of design or engineering? Is that like a t-bar on a ski lift? —Mattisse (Talk) 22:50, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Walter O'Malley
There's really no need to mention his HoF selection in the lead (apart from the way it was awkwardly phrased); it's a posthumous career honor, akin in many ways to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Koufax, Cobb and Clemente (the only HoFers with FA or GA status) all were elected in historic circumstances (first player elected, youngest player elected, posthumous special election/first Latin American player elected), and it seems reasonable to only mention the Hall in the intro if the individual's selection was similarly remarkable; besides, there are some HoFers with A-class article status who don't have the HoF mentioned in the lead. Wikiproject report
In short, like most projects, WikiProject Chicago went through a process of tagging related articles. Unfortunately, the report doesn't clearly distinguish between project actions, and simple taggings of non-project work, and, in this case, makes a slight difference - not to the extent of making the project look bad, but to the extent that it needs edited for clarity. Unfortunately, Rudget has just left, so, since I had volunteered to do it, I've agreed to take it over, and do the necessary edits. =)
The changes won't be extensive, but if you're willing to be interviewed a bit more, it might help get a few things sorted quicker - most of the problems are in Rudget's lead. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 23:55, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

For the record, the problems (or things to check) are listed here.
- Thanks - sorry to put you through this, it's just one of those things where last-minute problems came up. I don't doubt we can sort them, and they're secondary to the main thrust of the article. =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk)

I started to work on the process of moving the images from the commons to Wikipedia with Fair Use rationale, but I decided I should probably let you do this. You have already went through the process with Crown Fountain, and I think it would simply be a better idea instead of taking the risk of me messing it up. Undoubtedly, you would do the same job quicker and mostly likely better. Do you mind? --TorsodogTalk 02:11, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. Luckily, unlike Crown Fountain, Cloud Gate doesn't need many pictures to illustrate our points. Speaking of Crown Fountain images, I quickly experimented with panorama tonight. Albert White
I'll take a look at the review later today. But just a quick note that the article doesn't need a hatnote per WP:HATNOTE because readers won't arrive at that page by mistake when they meant another article. You only need hatnotes for clarification or to direct people to a disambig page if this page was placed at Albert White. Peanut4 (talk) 08:36, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- I don't believe a hatnote should be there. According to WP:NAMB, I think it only needs a hatnote if for example Albert White (athlete) or something similarly redirected to Albert White (basketball) but since it doesn't, there is no reason to end up at the wrong page. Peanut4 (talk) 20:53, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- I actually in theory agree with you. I would rather see hatnotes than not. However, I've had a lot removed and explained to me the reason why, and I understand the policy. My own verdict about doing GA reviews is an attempt to launch them towards FAC, whether they're ready or not. I often carry out a bit of editing myself, if it's quite temporary. I'm certainly not going to fail it for an erroneous hatnote, but per policy, I don't think it's necessary. I will leave the final decision up to you, but I would expect if an FAC attempt was made, it may be removed. Peanut4 (talk) 21:12, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Tony - Yesterday was the first time I had ever moved items to the DYK Next Update, so I may have overlooked some good ones. For the older hooks, I was basically just moving items that already had green checks into the next update, and that's why I may have overlooked White. The backlog has just gotten out of control, and I was trying to do my part to help. As the Aug 19 hooks have now been dropped, not sure what I can do.Cbl62 (talk) 14:14, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I've posted an appeal to other editors to assist to verify any valid hooks including yours on that day, and restore the heading with those that are verified. We will try to squeeze them into the Next Suggestions if we are able to; the backlog is not letting up at any moment. - Mailer Diablo 15:16, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: GA newsletter mention
Wow! Congrats on the milestone! I consistently see you as one of the top nominators of articles at GAN. Good work!
I've started going through some of WP:CHICAGO's large number of unassessed articles, and trying to make heads or tails of it all. There's a lot so far. I'm thinking we might be able to toss a few articles off to other wikiprojects, though. For example, is it really necessary to have every song and album article from the band Chicago tagged by the wikiproject? The band's article, yes, definitely. But articles on individual songs could likely be handed off to the songs wikiproject, or a wikiproject on the band itself. This would likely help to reduce our backlog quite a bit, I think,... Dr. Cash (talk) 14:20, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that My Kind of Town and the Superbowl Shuffle should be included in the wikiproject. Their significance is clear. What I was referring to is some obscure song like, 25 or 6 to 4. Also, I came across this article: 2*Sweet -- apparently a very obscure garage band with, supposedly, a single "album", though it's only advertised on myspace, and it really looks like the band isn't even notable enough for inclusion in wikipedia. It was created on June 7 of this year. I'm tempted to nominate for WP:AFD. Dr. Cash (talk) 15:46, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

football players
DevorahLeah (talk) 19:51, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Tony, you asked me a few weeks back to check and see if I could find more information about Keith Bostic and Thomas Wilcher, and I didn't want you to think I hadn't tried. Unlike Eugene Derricotte, these two guys didn't seem to get written up in the African-American newspapers (other than brief articles about their football exploits). I intend to keep trying, but didn't want you to think I forgot about your request. Any other Chicago personalities (and also Detroit, evidently) you need an article about? As I told you, my expertise is in the history of American broadcasting, American women's history, African-American history, and American Jewish history. And it's really frustrating to me that so far, I haven't helped you on those two guys you asked about. As I said, I'll keep trying.—Preceding unsigned comment added by DevorahLeah (talk • contribs) 19:51, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
