November 2022 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Tom 2023. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Tournament of Minds, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:59, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello!
I am updating this page as the information included on it was outdated and incorrect. I'm a teacher from a school that has had a lot of success in this competition so I know a lot of the details about it, but we don't receive any compensation from it. I followed the structure of the Odyssey of the Mind competition which is a similar competition in the USA.
Thank you! Tom (talk) 03:19, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thank you for the reply. In my opinion, that could be a COI because invariably there would be some mentions of your school. If you keep the language neutral and non promotional, I guess there is no need for you to edit through WP:Edit requests. This is purely my opinion and not a final decision, some other editors or even administrators might feel otherwise so they might actually ask you to put in edit requests to update the article instead. Please do follow their instructions if they do so. Thanks! Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:32, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Not a problem - no mention of the school has been included. The universities hosting the competition are the only institutions mentioned. I did try to update the Talk page as per the instructions, but I have to admit that technology is not my strongest point so it does look a bit funky. I can always redo if necessary. Happy to go through the edit requests rather than anything else, but I'm not sure who would action said requests as the topic is a bit obscure, and I didn't actually even know that there WAS a Wiki page for it prior to coming across it purely by accident. Thanks again for your guidance. Tom (talk) 03:37, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi, no worries about it. I have helped fixed the template on the talkpage so it displayed fine now. There are other editors looking at edit requests and usually someone will take a look at it within a day or two. Do note that we are all volunteers so sometimes the requests may take some time to be actioned upon depending on backlog and free time. If you like to edit through Edit Requests, you can try using the wizard here and click the second blue button I have a Conflict of Interest and it should guide you through the process. You can make multiple edit requests, there is no need to wait for an edit request to be done before requesting another, just make sure each edit request is independent of each other. The editor who is helping you with the request typically will follow up with you if there is a need. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:51, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Brilliant, thanks so much again! Tom (talk) 03:59, 28 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
