editPlease do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Please Please Me. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. freshacconci talktalk 16:11, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- I appreciate your desire to be helpful, but at first glance Socrata looks to be a user-submitted content site (self-published). Discarding one user's link does not imply any opinion about any other user. And Wikipedia is careful not to knowingly link to clear copyright violations. Yes, people here oppose SOPA, but that's because its passage could mean that an edit like yours could lead to court orders requiring the site somehow to keep you from being able to post the link ever again, which we can't implement, meaning there would be trouble. (at least, if Socrata has an offshore server) That doesn't mean Wikipedia deliberately keeps links to such sites. Though I favor the end of the copyright system, I don't want to put Wikipedia at risk over it. Wnt (talk) 19:01, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
