British/American spelling

Hi. Maybe there is a Wikipedia policiy I don't know about...but just to let you know that 'realise' is the British (and original) spelling of the US 'realize'...so its not really worth changing. Good to see another Gamecube fan, you know they have taken the Gamecube games out of most shops over here now...:( Kernow 21:38, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey. Yeah, I figured that "realise" was the British spelling, but I think it was inconsistent throughout the article so I made sure it was spelled the same each time. Hey, no problem with the external links, I'm glad it was resolved. I was able to find a bit of code that should make that sort of thing easier for you in the future.

Speedy deletion nomination of PS3 exclusives

A tag has been placed on PS3 exclusives, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Propolis

Hi. I put "Human Use" into the headers because propolis clearly has uses and health benefits for the bees themselves, so I thought that to assume that "use" only means "human use" represents an overly human POV. Your work on Widow's Peak article

Thank you for your recent work on Widow's Peak. I revamped the article several months ago and unreferenced examples keep creeping back in. I have removed some, but wonder if I'm too strict on the insistance of using referenced material; you've reinforced my belief that ONLY referenced material should be used.

It'll be interesting to see if your notes help.

To answer your question: On the one hand, there are certainly cases where unreferenced information is better than none at all. However, the "Villains" section of widow's peak is basically a "popular culture" section, and those tend to attract a lot of users who want to add their favorite characters, shows, and so on. For that reason, I often remove unreferenced material from them. Holding them to a higher standard keeps them from growing out of proportion with the rest of the article. However, before deleting it's sometimes a good idea to do a quick Google search to see if any reliable sources are readily available.

By the way, you might consider changing that section's title to "In fiction" or "In popular culture", especially since I'm pretty sure Eddie Munster isn't a villain. —tktktk 17:01, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. In the week from Sunday 21 October to Saturday 27 October, we are holding a Project Blitz, in which we will copy edit articles tagged with {{copyedit}} belonging to selected project(s). For the first blitz, we'll start with WikiProject Olympics and WikiProject Albums and add more Projects to the blitz as we clear them. The blitz works much like our bimonthly drives, but a bit simpler. Everyone is welcome to take part, and barnstars will be awarded. November 2012 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in 2011 and to complete all requests placed before the end of October. Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive. We have reduced our target group of articles—November and December 2011—by over 50%, and 34 of the the 56 requests made in September and October this year have already been fulfilled. However, the rate of tagging for copy edit has increased, and this month we are just keeping the size of the backlog stable. So, all you copy editors, please do come along and help us! The September 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest was won by Baffle gab1978 for his copy edit of Expulsion of the Acadians. Runner up was Gareth Griffith-Jones for his edit of I Could Fall in Love.
