Edit summaries edit

Hello and welcome. We have seen a lot of vandalism on Colbert related pages lately. Could you please give edit summaries when making changes on these (and basically any) wikipedia pages? It makes it easier for editors monitoring the pages to tell vandal from non-vandal. You can set your user preferences to require an edit summary for all edits, which makes it easy to remeber. This is the sort of thing that will help you gain trust from other editors and admins. thanks ! Gaff ταλκ 01:27, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

A recent edit of yours in the article The Colbert Report has a summary that does not accurately describe your changes. Please write edit summaries that tell other editors what you did. --YbborTalk 13:31, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Preview edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edit(s) to The Colbert Report, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thank you. -- pb30<talk> 02:43, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I was guessing you would run into edit conflicts, especially since the article was so popular yesterday. Hopefully you won't run into that as much now that the activity has died down. You may want to try just writing it in Notepad or another text editor then move it over to the real article. Let me know if you have any questions and keep up the good work! -- pb30<talk> 04:55, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reply edit

Hi, and thank you for your comment on the welcome! The templates on a userpage are known on WP as userboxes. You can find out more at WP:Userbox. There is a whole gallery of these here. Also to clarify on the locking of pages, I can't lock pages, only administrators can. I only placed a notice that says the page is locked. Hope this helps clarify some of your questions! :) -- Hdt83 Chat 04:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Colbert Report edit

Thank you for experimenting with the page The Colbert Report on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. I'm a fan too, but this is an encyclopedia. --YbborTalk 13:31, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reference to Librarians Hiding Something edit

Where is the reference to "librarians hiding something" that was on Wikipedia before Stephen Colbert used the phrase on his television show? 206.188.56.94 02:31, 18 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Y-DNA haplogroup nomenclature edit

I noticed that you've began moving/reworking some of the Y-DNA haplogroup articles to reflect the forthcoming YCC nomenclature changes. I strongly recommend that you hold off doing so until that information becomes publicly available, as none of the DNA testing companies have begun using the new haplogroup designations in their communications with their customers or the general public. Also, without publicly available source information, changing the haplogroup designations at this time bumps up against Wikipedia's verifiability and no original research guidelines.

If you still want to work on revising the haplogroup articles to incorporate the new designations, do so in your sandbox and transfer them to the article space once the YCC designations "go public". – Swid (talk · edits) 19:27, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I did it because it's very hard to edit the table / template, and I still haven't gotten it right. Of course when the new tree comes out we can just revert back to it.
You might also be interested in the Template:Y-DNA Phylogenetic Tree that I created,l which isn't linked to any pages either (and therefore won't come up in searches). I only know about some parts of the new tree, but in a day or two I'll have the rest and get to work on the remaining updates. This way it'll be ready right when the paper gets published, even before ISOGG updates their tree, so people can immediately refer to it.
BTW, the same tree with the SNPs listed with links to their refSNP / UniSTS IDs in GenBank, and one with a kind of "translation table" / "formerly called" would be excellent as well.
Oh, and you found the Y-Haplogroup userbox that I created ...

Thanks for understanding. In the meantime, here's some information about the upcoming changes to R1b. – Swid (talk · edits) 21:19, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Genetic links between Pashtuns and Jews edit

You posted links to two studies that according to you disproved a genetic link between Pashtuns and Jews. I checked out both studies, and none of them had anything to say on the relation of one group to the other. Are you a fucking idiot that you posted them?--24.188.136.219 (talk) 06:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I'm guessing from your username that you could be a very good reviewer for this article's FA review. Comments and suggestions would be very welcome at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Archaea. Thanks! Tim Vickers (talk) 04:09, 26 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Like the haplogroup userboxes! edit

Got my test results back a while ago, and was thinking they would make great userboxes. :) Thanks for making them. -- Scarpy (talk) 18:47, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
