Setting another RM at Talk:Chang You

I've not received your responses to my message about your proposal to change Chang You to Sing and Play. Never mind the delay; I still like to hear your response. I think a discussion there is warranted. --George Ho (talk) 21:23, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Sportspeople names

Hi. You told me to look at WP:NCSP. Could I then ask you to look at the Association football section that states:

  1. When there are multiple people with the same name, and one of them is a footballer:
    a. If the person is neither American, Canadian nor Australian, use (footballer)
    b. If the person is American, Canadian, or Australian, use (soccer)
  2. If there are multiple footballers with the same name, use the most conclusive of the following steps:
    a. If the footballers were born in different years, use the year they were born.
    b. If the footballers have different nationalities, use their nationality in the disambiguation.

So, the first way to differ the footballers is by year (per 2a). Qed237 (talk) 20:05, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

And the second way is by nationality (per 2b). It says "use the most conclusive", there's nothing that says "use 2b only when 2a fails." Timmyshin (talk) 20:11, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Notification of RFC for Korean MOS in regard to romanization

Hello! You contributed in some capacity to at least one of the recent discussions concerning romanization of Korean for historical topics. Should we use McCune-Reischauer or Revised for topics relating to pre-1945 Korea? If you are inclined, please contribute here. Hijiri 88 (やや) 06:28, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Kingdom of Tungning RM redux

You recently participated in a move discussion at Talk:Kingdom of Tungning. I have made another proposal based on that discussion here if you would like to weigh in. —  AjaxSmack  14:16, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

deletion

Why did you place speedy deletion templates on some of the articles you made on Chinese prefectures? I assume it was accidental, and I've removed them; if you do want them deleted, please tell me why. DGG ( talk ) 04:22, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

What article are you talking about? Timmyshin (talk) 04:27, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Why are you moving china towns to "township"

Do they sound better that way? Pyrusca (talk) 17:51, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Because they are not towns but townships. Please read towns of the People's Republic of China, Townships of the People's Republic of China and WP:NC-ZH. Timmyshin (talk) 17:52, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Ok so I guess the move is proper then. For town, are you going to move them as well? Pyrusca (talk) 17:55, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Category:Chinese film directors

Recently I'm trying to return a bit to Wikipedia editing, and as I was coming back across the category of Category:Chinese film directors, I saw that apparently in July of last year, when you were cleaning up some articles (e.g., Cai Chusheng), you added them back into the category even if the people were already in a provincial film director category that is a subcategory thereof. Is there a reason? I tend to think that articles should be in subcategories when possible when the categories are large, but I wanted to see what your thought process was, if you remember. (I realize that it's been over a year.) Thanks. --Nlu (talk) 02:56, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi you are back on Wikipedia! I consider the provincial categories "special characteristic of interest" and thus WP:DUPCAT: "there is no need to take pages out of the parent category purely because of their membership of a non-diffusing subcategory". In my opinion, most people looking for Chinese film directors could care less whether they are from Shanxi or Shaanxi. See also for example Category:American film directors which is a much larger category despite the existence of Category:American film directors by state‎. Hope this makes sense. Timmyshin (talk) 03:09, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
OK, got it. That's a reasonable position, although I still tend to think that makes the categories too large. Thanks for getting back to me on it. --Nlu (talk) 01:21, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Category: X Novels...

I saw that you moved several articles from Category:Novels adapted into plays to Category:X Novels adapted into plays. This seems like a bizarre category name on top of being a red link. What is the reason for this? Matchups 02:09, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Which article was moved to that category? Timmyshin (talk) 08:26, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Cutting and pasting from my watchlist...
m 12:54 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz‎ (diff | hist) . . (+17)‎ . . Timmyshin (talk | contribs) (clean up, replaced: Category:Novels adapted into plays → Category:X novels adapted into plays using AWB)
m 12:53 The Voyage of the Dawn Treader‎ (diff | hist) . . (+15)‎ . . Timmyshin (talk | contribs) (clean up, replaced: Category:Novels adapted into plays → Category:X novels adapted into plays using AWB)
12:27 List of constructed languages‎ (diff | hist) . . (-179)‎ . . AngrySheep03 (talk | contribs) (Undid revision 735286716 by IJzeren Jan (talk) Not notable enough for Wikipedia)
m 12:01 Alice's Adventures in Wonderland‎ (diff | hist) . . (+40)‎ . . Timmyshin (talk | contribs) (clean up, replaced: Category:Novels adapted into plays → Category:X novels adapted into plays using AWB)

Presumably even more not on my watchlist. However, when I went to look at the category, it was empty. And checking the actual Oz article, it looks like it was moved appropriately to Category:American novels adapted into plays and Dawn Treader to Category:British novels adapted into plays. So I guess it is just an error on the modification comments and not an actual error in the encyclopedia. Matchups 21:30, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

The Picture of Dorian Gray as Irish novel?

My recent edit was based on a mistake on my part, and you, reasonably, reverted it. Looking at it again, however, I think I did the right thing for the wrong reason, in that I don't think that The Picture of Dorian Gray should be categorised as an Irish novel at all; it is a novel set in England, about English characters, written in England by an authorr resident in England but of Irish origin. The article does not describe it as an "Irish Novel", nor as far as I knonw does any reliable source. Is Murder in the Cathedral categorised as an American play? No. Is Saint Joan described as an Irish play? No. Is Heart of Darkness a Polsih novel?? etc. etc. I'd be interested in your response. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 16:23, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

You are absolutely right, I was too careless. Timmyshin (talk) 12:22, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I've updated the cats. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 13:12, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

State Chairman listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect State Chairman. Since you had some involvement with the State Chairman redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 09:34, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Changing file name

I'm not sure if you are aware, you changed the image file names in the Kingdom of Khotan. This broke the file name. Be careful when changing names. Hzh (talk) 00:36, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Barnstar of Good Humor
Ooops I pressed revert when I meant to press "thanks". So thanks for not hitting out and this gives me an occasion to thank you for adding to the article Chen Yen-Yen considerably. Cheers Victuallers (talk) 10:20, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! Timmyshin (talk) 15:30, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Question.

I understand you speak Chinese fluently. Do you know how to translate "文庙和学宫主要建筑如棂星门、泮池、石桥、戟门、大成殿、东西庑、名宦、乡贤祠、孝悌忠义祠、崇圣祠、文昌祠、明伦堂、斋房、教谕、训导宅等齐备。后历代各有修建"?

Unfortunately I'm really not familiar with temples, and pretty much the only thing I can understand is "石桥" = "Stone Bridge". I think the last sentence "后历代各有修建" translates to "In every future dynasty [the subject] was refurbished." Timmyshin (talk) 15:30, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Ah thanks anyway. Im working on a translation for WP:WAM and i chose this. Im chinese myself but my chinese is weak. Pyrusca (talk) 18:20, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
You can try User talk:Nlu and User talk:Madalibi and see whether they are able to help. Timmyshin (talk) 20:47, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

FYI

Hello T. Thanks for catching all the hoax articles and putting them up for AFD. It looks like FilmMakers20190 (talk · contribs) is the same person that was previously blocked as FilmMakers00023 (talk · contribs). If so any article that the recent editor created can be speedied as WP:G5. You may already be aware of this but I thought I would let you know just in case. Thanks again for your vigilance. MarnetteD|Talk 22:17, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

I'm aware of WP:G5 but didn't know that about this user, nice catch! Timmyshin (talk) 22:27, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
A block and several speedies have been applied so congrats to all involved. In doing some final checking I came across this IP 116.88.152.205 (talk · contribs) who is probably the same person. I suspect they wont be using it again (though you never know) but I wanted you to be up to date on things. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 00:55, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Good job. He may be a serial hoaxer but his future socks should be easy to spot with a little vigilance on the List of Singaporean films article. Timmyshin (talk) 15:51, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
