Honorary citizens of zagreb

Hi. Is this maybe you or someone you know [1]? Nevertheless, I merged that contribution to List of honorary citizens of Zagreb, but after that I found that you have a version in your userspace (User:Timbouctou/List of honorary citizens of Zagreb). You might like to expand and/or merge the two versions. (I think that the list is too excessive for the main Zagreb article, but it should be linked from somewhere). Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Timbouctou! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

World of Soccer Cup

Hi Timbouctou. Listen, I see you said in Red Star Belgrade article that they were "runners up" in that tournament, but the problem is, as the tournament article says, that it was organised in two competitions, citing from the article:

"The tournament was the idea of English entrepreneur Reg Lambourne and consisted of two competitions. The first was a straight knock-out tournament in Singapore, and the second was a mini-league in which the top two teams would play in the final. The first trophy was won by Red Star Belgrade and the second by Celtic, and was the last ever trophy Jock Stein would ever lift for Celtic."

By this, I see that Red Star won the first trophy, and Celtic the second. They won one of the two trophies of the tournament. By my POV they are not just simple "runners-up", there were two trophies in dispute, and Red Star won one. The way it was written (Red Star won the Cup) isn´s exactly accurate, but your revision either. Opinion? FkpCascais (talk) 04:41, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

I have to admit that the organisation of the tournament in two phases was quite peculiar and unique. If the first was some kind of qualification for the second, it would have some sence, but that wasn´t clearly the case. But, Timbouctou, I must say that the sentence "The first trophy was won by Red Star" is quite clear. Two trophies were in play, and Red Star won the first one, plus, was runner-up of the second one. FkpCascais (talk) 05:18, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Fine. Then what was the first trophy called? :-) Timbouctou (talk) 05:20, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn´t knew you answered here. I know, it´s name is a issue. "World of Soccer Cup (Singapore trophy)"? Bljak!!! Nevermind, lets keep it your way until further info comes up. Hey, did you see all "Notable players" lists desapearing from Croatian clubs articles? Well, that would be the future of most clubs articles (without an inclusion criterium, so 99%) if a debate is not made. I have been trying to delay it by arguing Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football You could help!? FkpCascais (talk) 09:10, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I've just noticed and I reverted those edits from all Croatian articles. It's really appaling, just deleting it like that, so what if it is unsourced and unverified - can't they simply request a source in the article's talk page? I think it terible and we have to do something to stop our articles from being butchered like that. Timbouctou (talk) 09:18, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi again. I´m trying now to make some inclusion criteriums for the non-referenced teams, and I hope more people get involved and give their touths about some ideas already there for the criteriums, or add their own proposals for posible criteriums to be used in those lists. When you have time, Timbouctou, please tell us your opinion and your proposals. Your touths are very important since you are one of the editors that are going to be involved in the lists with those criteriums, and you have experience with them. Despite wishing that you enjoy maximaly the weekend, I really hope this steals you a couple of minutes more. For now, I started numbering all the posibilities that came to my mind, wishing that people discuss them, or add others. The possibilities that I proposed there are:

  • 1 - Lists of players that played for national teams.
  • 2 - Lists of players with more then X league caps for the club.
  • 3 - Lists of players with titles won with the club.
  • 4 - Lists of team captains.
  • 5 - Lists that would combine two or more points.
  • 6 - All of them. By this meaning, to give the different club the option of having one or more of this lists included, when well sourced and identified.

My personal favourite is the last one, in wich the accepted possibilities could be used individually for each club (Ex: some clubs may find more practical to have a national team players, others may have a "more than X caps" list). What you think? Am I forgeting some other options? Even if the last is accepted, we must determine which points can be used. There hasn´t been new ideas for almost 24 hours, but I really hope this discussion doesn´t "dye". Many thanx for all! FkpCascais (talk) 03:28, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Croatia U-21 template

Thanks! Yeah, you're right. Šušak actually took over the team in '97 according to Nogometni leksikon. I have no idea who was in charge before that.--Thewanderer (talk) 03:57, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Extremely rare simultaneous making of a 50´s footballer page.

Yo Timb. Something extremely strange happend... I was making the Nikola Radović page and, when I finally finished it, and cklicked in "Save the page", it gave me the "Editing conflict" message! We were both making the page simultaneously!!! About a player from the 50´s!!! What a soccer phanatics we are! How rare is this? Anyway, I added the info I had in mine version that you didn´t... Good editing! FkpCascais (talk) 22:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, a strange coincidence :-) I've been making the Yugoslavia Summer Olympics squad templates in the past few days and playing them on players' articles, so I've noticed that there are some of them without articles. I've started adding some of their biographies, as well as some biographies of players who used to play for Dinamo Zagreb in the 1950s and 1960s recently, such as Ivo Radovniković, Branko Kralj, Zlatko Papec, Damir Lesjak, Josip Šikić, Vladimir Čonč. It would be nice if we could find enough info for articles on all players who were members of Yugoslavia Olympic tournaments squads. Unfortunately, for some of them, such as Gordan Irović, Mladen Koščak, MIlorad Diskić, Dušan Cvetković I can't seem to find any usable sources. Perhaps you could check out the Olympic templates I created and try finding something on players with red links? Perhaps you will have more luck with this. Also, I've been thinking that perhaps we could try forming a taskforce for Yugoslav and ex-Yugoslav football, like they already have for Spanish and German football. If enough people show interest we could use it help everyone editing articles related to serbian, croatian, bosnian and other football articles in terms of statistics, sourcing, etc, and it might be a good consensus-building place to form taskforce-wide policies. Any thoughts on this idea would be appreciated. Cheers. Timbouctou (talk) 22:37, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
That has been a very nice work you have been doing. They look great, and you can count on me in trying to make the articles of the missing players. I already have some sort of list of some players from the Serb.Fed. site that, when, with time, I was doing player by player. Obviously, I was giving some priority of the ones that played in Serbian clubs (regardless the nationality). There are many missing, but there is even another problem: not all the Olympic players have articles in that site. Only the ones that played some other A team matches, wich gives some amount of players that don´t have articles and played in the Olympics (also, I was searching for Milorad Milutinovic, he was at the 1958 WCup squad, but, nothing...I supose he was part of the squad, but didn´t get to play). About the task force, well, to be honest, I´m not sure what could really improve to us. We (you and me) could do this with time, I think. You have been already doing quite a remarcable work about ex-yu football, and having other people involved could complicate things... I also don´t know any other reliable editors for this. There are some Serbian editors, but the good ones are often abscent, coming only from time to time, and others are just kids, interested only in the most recent transfers, unknowing, many of them, even the football from the 1990´s, not even needing to talk about some more historic periods. I know a Bosniak editor, Jaganjac, but he is just a gnome for Bosnian players... There were some guys wanting to make a Slovenian football task force... but, all the Slovenian Yu-int. players are already done. You have already donne the hardest work...
Resuming, I can help you by starting to do the articles of the players from the templates you made that don´t have article. I´ll do the ones playing in Serbian clubs first, leaving the ones from DZ and HS for you :). You could tell me what else could I do to help you, since the transfer window is finished, and I´ll be released from that work now (transfers, players and clubs updates...).
Anyway, for all you have already donne, and for your excellent attitude, you deserve a

I´ll help you in anything I can. Many thanx for all you have already done Timbouctou. FkpCascais (talk) 23:24, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

I found your list of Olympic players with missing articles. I done one, I´ll try more. You could give me, to my talk page, all that sort of lists that you make in your sandboxes, so I can use them, if you don´t mind, of course... FkpCascais (talk) 01:24, 9 February 2010 (UTC) Ah, and I forgot some questions I have, so that´s why I haven´t done them:

  • I remember finding in RSSSF site mentioning that Jaroslav Schiffer played for Austrian NT before moving to Zagreb, and playing for Yugoslavia. Do you know anything about it?
  • Aleksandar Kozlina played for Hajduk Split, but I think the Serb.Fed site has wrongly twice Hajduk here when I think (but not sure), the first Hajduk years should be Vojvodina. Touths? FkpCascais (talk) 01:30, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your help, I've just done the Olympic players without articles list in my sandbox and I'm currently working on Kozlina. WorldFootball.net also says he played for Hajduk from 1959 to 1962, and the Serbian federation site says he was born in Skrad, which probably means he's either a Croat or a Serb from Croatia. At Hajduk's website you can search for Hajduk appearances and goals by season and they list Kozlina as playing there in the period, just like it says on Serbian federation website, so i would say the information there is correct. It seems he wasn't born in Novi Sad and he never played for Vojvodina, but was loaned out from Hajduk to FK Novi Sad for two seasons :-)Timbouctou (talk) 01:36, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Also, could you please use the "Infobox football biography 2" template for future articles, as this is the improved version launched recently. I think you will find it easier to use and will save us some time later on as people at WP:Footy are going through biographies and updating the infoboxes to the new format. Thanks. Timbouctou (talk) 01:40, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Kozlina is not from Novi Sad, as some websites wrongly say, he is from Skrad, and thanx fr cheking it in the Hajduk seasons site (that is quite usefull, I know it)!
About the infobox, sorry, but I just hate the infobox2, and as a bot will change it anyway, there is no problem. FkpCascais (talk) 01:49, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I must urge and call your atention to this:Dragutin Friedrich has an article without a single source. Did you noteced the recent war that was declared to such articles? They are all going to be deleted soon. I already sourced all the players from Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia that were worth having an article here. I did some houndreds of pages, and it took me weeks, and as I touth that you, together with other Croatian editors, must have done the same with Croatian players, and the transfers season came, I didn´t even chek more. Did you chek the list of unsourced Croatian players? Here is the Cro list. Well this is quite urgent, and I´m seing some interesting names: Elvis Scoria, Ivica Kalinić, Danijel Cesarec... If someone doesn´t source them, they are gonna be deleted soon. I´ll leave this to you, and I´ll chek the Slovenian list. FkpCascais (talk) 04:41, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Just one small advice: instead of using the original German version of Transfermarkt it´s better to use its English version and that way you don´t need to use the German Language template... :) . Hey, I see you like movies. I worked for long time (still do, as part-time, and when well payed) as a Foley Artist. I´ve already donne more then a 100 movies. Re: Augustinčić

Matković's Povijest Nezavisne Države Hrvatske has a picture of the bust. The site that you're linking to is hardly exhaustive. It lists nothing from 1940 to 1947. Augustinčić was fairly active during this period. I think you realize the significance of a sculptor making personal works of both a fascist and a communist dictator. Ivo Perić's Hrvatski državni sabor has info on Augustinčić's involvement in the assembly. While there was hardly any "electing" going on, I can definitely look up the timeframe of his participation as a "social-political activist" within the assembly ;-).--Thewanderer (talk) 05:24, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Cool, I'd love to see the picture of the bust itself (and wikipedia readers too, probably) so if you happen to have a copy of Matković's book it would be nice to add a scan of it to the gallery. I have no problem with it if the claim can be properly sourced, and if that is the case perhaps a reference to 3 or 4 sculptures of King Alexander should be included too, just to show how he obviously sculpted whatever the regime of the day ordered. Bearing that in mind, the exact page where Matković says so should be cited in the article, together with the isbn, using the "cite book" template. The same goes for his term in the assembly. Btw, I know the famous photographer Tošo Dabac snapped a few pictures of Augustinčić at work (here's one) in the 1930s. How would one need to go about it if one wanted to use the picture, copyright-wise? I've been thinking about creating the article about Dabac for some time now anyway, but I don't know what can and can't be used. Cheers. Timbouctou (talk) 05:34, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Apart from regular fair-use cases, picture usage on Wikipedia is a total mystery to me. I'd suggest you use Template:PD-Yugoslavia to upload images, which is never questioned. I have no idea why Template:PD-Yugoslavia works, but it does. Admins have seemingly never questioned it.
As for Augustinčić, I just find it interesting that three vastly different regimes valued his work. Yet he was a known leftist throughout. And in the end, like Nazor and Krleža, he essentially gave himself to the communist regime. Nazor's case is even more fascinating.--Thewanderer (talk) 20:23, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Perica

Hi - thanks for picking up on Vlasic - I was hoping some fellow national would. Do you have access to more information about him in his native language? Regards Motmit (talk) 12:16, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

No problem. Actually I've stumbled upon Vlašić when i was doing some minor editing on Vela Luka article, which lists among notable people born there. As for information, I've found this lenghthy article about him which seems to have been written in 1995 and this list on the website of the Croatian sports writers' association which says he won the Sportske novosti Sportsman of the Year award in 1953. Also, it seems that Sports-Reference.com has his birth date wrong, as Croatian sources say he was born on 2 June 1932. A short bio here says he was member of rowing clubs Ošjak (from Vela Luka) and Mornar (from Split), and I'm almost certain that here is his obituary, published in the Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper. It simply says he died on 12 August 2004 "after a long and difficult illness" and that the funeral is scheduled for 14 August at Vela Luka cemetery. The lenghty article i linked first reads more like an essay, it says he began rowing in 1947 at the local VK Ošjak which was founded that same year. It says his first successes were three consecutive wins at youth level at the croatian national championships in the coxed four discipline, in 1948, 1949 and 1950. In 1950 Vlašić turned to single scull, although in 1951 he rowed for the last time in a coxed four with his VK Ošjak teammmates, and they won the croatian championship again, this time in the senior competition. In 1952 he went to serve his compulsory military service in the Yugoslav Army, and he served in Pula, where he was spotted by the famous rowing coach Luka Marasović who brought him to the Mornar rowing club in Split. In 1953 he entered his first competition as a member or Mornar, the Croatian championship, where he won the single scull race. (Croatia was at the time part of Yugoslavia so Croatian championships were regional events). That same year, in 1952 he went on to win the Yugoslav national championship in single scull as well as double scull, paired with Stevan Vaci, a rower from the VK Tamiš club based in Pančevo. Then he entered the European championship and finished first in the final held on 18 August 1953, in front of Teodor Kocerka of Poland. That year he won the said Sportsman of the year award. In 1954 he went on a 1 month tour around Europe and won numerous races, first at Duisburg and then at Groningen, both in borrowed boats, then at Henley. By the end of his career he won a total of around 40 races in international competitions, and another 40 in national championships in scull and double scull races. He competed in seven European championships and two Olympic Games, and won eight consecutive Yugoslav championships in scull, as well as seven double scull national championships, six of which paired with Nikola Lučin. In 1990 he was invited to attend the 150th anniversary celebration of the Henley race in London and on 23 October 1995 the Croatian ministry for sports and education gave him the Franjo Bučar State award. That same year he was also given the Life Achievement Award by the Municipality of Vela Luka. Hope this helps :-) Timbouctou (talk) 13:36, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks - I'll make what I can of it. Regards Motmit (talk) 17:14, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Tošo Dabac

Very nice job on the Tošo Dabac article. Any plans for WP:DYK, perhaps? GregorB (talk) 19:53, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Speaking from (fairly limited) experience, Croatian sources should not be a problem. Only the "hook" is scrutinized, but is accepted in good faith if it's in foreign language. The article passes the bar, that's why I asked about DYK. GregorB (talk) 22:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
In fact, here is an English source for the MGM hook: http://www.inyourpocket.com/croatia/dubrovnik/Culture-and-Events/04-2009-April-2009/03-04-16-05-2010-Toso-Dabac,-Scenes-from-the-street_57599v. Comes from In Your Pocket City Guides, so it is a RS. GregorB (talk) 22:36, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Well, in fact, there is no voting in the DYK, the article can either pass or not (and that's decided by resident editors). I see no reason for it not to pass. The hook is moderately interesting, but there you go. Do let me know if there is a problem, I'll try to help. GregorB (talk) 13:59, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

GA status

Dear friend, recently I've been editing articles about the Croatian Adriatic and noticed that somehow you've been working together with users Floyd and GregorB to establish GA status to some of the articles in this Wiki area. I guess I just don't want to be a burden in case you guys want to make any changes on what I've been editing, so please feel free to disagree.

Moving the Cathedral of St. James to Šibenik Cathedral was also a wise decision considering the existing convention you mentioned about. Mainly of the articles in this area involve tourism and architecture, considering specially the churches and cathedrals of your country. Would there be a way to link these church articles under some kind of bottom-page infobox ?

Thanks for being there and keep up the good work ! Krenakarore (talk) 18:06, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

RE: HSS

Proper names are proper names. Regardless of the redundancy, is HDZ ever referred to as the "Demokratska zajednica" within Croatia? Then a similar shortening should not be performed on here in English. As for the HSS translation, HIDRA says that it's the Croatian Peasant Party. I am aware that Croatian Peasants' Party is a more accurate translation, but they're probably just trying to avoid the plural possessive. Cheers.--Thewanderer (talk) 14:16, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Re: Old City Hall

No problem, I'll have a go at both of these... All very nice articles, and your recent DYK output is also rather impressive.

The Zagreb synagogue turned out very good; I was initially aiming for a C class article, but I've sort of overdone it, obviously. Took me almost 3 months to write it (by working 5-8 hours a week or so). I agree, it's certainly not too far from GA. I've considered nominating it, but it's a bit far back on my todo list at the moment. (You've just made it shorter by writing 1880 Zagreb earthquake - you can make it shorter still by writing 1964 Zagreb flood :-).) At one point I had an idea of bringing Blanka Vlašić to GA status instead - we'll see, I might still change my mind... GregorB (talk) 16:58, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

You know, I really don't understand how do you manage to churn out so many articles in just a couple of weeks. Maybe I could do the same if I spent less time tinkering. :-) (I am a huge WikiGnome.)
As for the flood: the sources are a bit scarce. A few of them:
The synagogue: "choppy", "book references" - exactly my impression. Copyediting might help; perhaps I could find some native speakers willing to take a look. Also, one of my major online sources went dead - but this was actually a book scan, so I might as well go and find this book. In short, it needs some fleshing out. For example: did you know that Zagreb Synagogue is connected to one of your recent articles? It turns out that a 1901 design for its adaptation was created by Hönigsberg & Deutsch, but was never implemented.[3] There's still more to write about... GregorB (talk) 09:14, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Whoa, just found this - it has to be the mother of all sources for the synagogue! If I had it from the beginning, I probably could have written the article in less than half the time... GregorB (talk) 09:31, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh yes, I'm reading it right now. I did spend an afternoon the other day going through .pdf articles at hart.hr looking for interesting stuff for later articles but i only looked at things published in their magazines. Who knows what else they might have in store for us. You're right, this is really the mother of all sources on the synagogue :-) As for the "churning out" conundrum, I usually start with a decent article about the topic in Croatian. I then remove all the unencylopedic bits, translate the rest to the best of my abilities and then look for more sources to support the claims already stated or add in bits of new information if i run into any. I think it goes quite fast this way, although it really depends on how interesting the topic is to begin with (I've actually wrote the Contemporary Art Museum, Kallina House, Old City Hall, Krk Cathedral and Marshall Tito Square articles as a form of procrastinating when i got stuck with (still unfinished) articles about the Pula Cathedral and Rijeka Synagogue). Anyway, I suggest we do something like that with Snješka's work on the Zagreb synagogue, since it's not only comprehensive but is also nicely divided into subsections. We could work in my sandbox if you like. As for the 1964 flood, the sources you provided seem more than enough, I'll try to write a short article about it today or tomorrow, and meanwhile, with you being a WikiGnome, you could pre-emptively introduce links to 1964 Zagreb flood in related articles. Also, if you have any sources which could come in handy for the List of tallest buildings in Zagreb that would be great (it's still very much work in progress, but the plan is to make it as good as possible and nominate it for featured list as soon as it becomes live). Timbouctou (talk) 10:15, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
That's interesting. I guess I'm a stickler for sources, so I tend to google for online sources first, collect them all and read them all, then start writing from scratch. That's obviously the hard way. Sometimes there is little choice: for example, I knew next to nothing about the synagogue before I started, so I had to do research beforehand. I worked on Igor Mandić recently, before I got sidetracked. I knew quite a bit about him, but I still have almost 70 URLs that might get used in his article. (Okay, 15 or so are really usable, the rest is tangential.)
I'll add the Zagreb flood links - there aren't many. The list of tallest buildings will probably be difficult sourcing-wise. Your draft already looks pretty good, though. I'll certainly see what I can do.
As for the synagogue - I'm a bit busy at the moment. (Currently working on Falkuša, slated for DYK - maybe you'd find it interesting?) I'd certainly like to give it a go. I can't say when, but I guess it would be some time in April/May at the earliest. GregorB (talk) 11:10, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
One more about the flood: http://www.znanje.org/i/i25/05iv02/05iv0230/poplave_rijeke_save.htm (not sure if it's a RS, though). Incoming links done. GregorB (talk) 11:24, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Kosor cabinet

Great job on the Kosor cabinet article. FYI, I had created the Mesić and Sanader I cabinet articles under a different naming format (I believe I copied the naming from .hr wiki). Also, Template:Croatian Government Cabinets already exists, but under my naming scheme. I think yours is more correct and consistent with other articles on here, so feel free to make any necessary changes.--Thewanderer (talk) 14:53, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! I thought the format used for Danish governments looked clear and concise so I copied it from there. Besides, calling a government as "first", "second" and so forth may be misleading as Croatia had other sorts of goverments before gaining independence. I'll re-format and categorise existing articles today. Timbouctou (talk) 15:04, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Zagreb Synagogue

Well, apparently the GA time is here... :-) Kebeta and Laurinavicius are going to help, we have just started with it. If you'd like to chip in I'd be grateful... GregorB (talk) 08:58, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello again... Saw your sandbox just today - great content, but I feel that it is a bit too broad given the subject. Would work very well as an expansion of the History of the Jews in Croatia - itself a decent article already. The synagogue article should provide some context, and already does, to a point - whether that's sufficient, I can't really say.
BTW, happy to see Veljko Rogošić on your todo list - that should be one off of my list, which can't be bad... :-)
Also, Maksimir Park - as chance would have it, Ivan Standl photographed it in 1869, and you might find this interesting. That sculpture in the photo - yeah, that's the one that ended up on Marshal Tito Square. Everything seems to be connected... :-) GregorB (talk)
Would you like to volunteer to write Zagreb City Museum? :-) That's the only redlink of significance left in the article and the subject area certainly looks like your number... GregorB (talk) 21:03, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
OK: apparently it has been unlinked just hours ago. Still, would be a useful article regardless. GregorB (talk) 21:06, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Dinamo Zagreb

Hi, I just wanted to ask, if you're interested, to organise a group of people who are willing to give it a try to make Dinamo Zagreb article fit the "GA" criteria. It would take a lot of work and cleanup, and since you already worked one article up to the "GA" status, I guess you'd know what to do. Mrcha (talk) 12:08, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I'd be willing to help. I don't have much experience with GA articles but I have been involved with WikiProject football for some time now and I think I have a good idea what a GA football club article should look like. We should try to define a to do list for starters and see what needs to be updated, what the article is missing. We also need to try to gather some sources for the article (I happen to own fredi Kramer's Dinamo commemorative almanac issued in 1985 which is an okay source for the 1945-1985 period and I know Ozren Podnar's 2006 booklet may come in handy). Content-wise some sections could need editing but generally looks good. What the article lacks the most is references. I suggest you take a look at other GA club artices such as Aberdeen F.C., Birmingham City F.C., Brøndby IF, S.S.C. Napoli or West Bromwich Albion F.C. to get an idea what's missing in Dinamo article and if you feel like helping out. There's also a few other editors we could ask for help. Timbouctou (talk) 12:29, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Sure I'll help. I figured we need a lot of references, that's the main issue. Will start to work thoroughly on it as soon as possible. Mrcha (talk) 13:32, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about not writing the explanation. I tend to forget to do that. I reverted the edit to Matej Delač's infobox as it simply makes the box ugly when you remove the linebreak. Timbouctou (talk) 00:29, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
All right, I did revert back but I'll restore your version (if you haven't done so yet by the time I send this). I think it depends on what setting you are using. For instance on my laptop which I normally use, and this home PC I use now, the dimensions are totally different, even when they are "the same". So I suppose for some observers, either version is fine. Then again, it is an unusually long settlement name with no short form we can use, that's the other spanner in the works. Atleast by adding the /BR, it can be fine everywhere. No problem then. User:Evlekis (Евлекис) 00:34, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
No problem. Cheers. Timbouctou (talk) 00:35, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Regarding club categories...

Hi, just a quick question: Do we use the Cibalia category for players that played only for Dinamo Vinkovci? By "only" I mean, they left the club prior to the club changing name. Also, I made today an article about Miroslav Šugar, but I´m missing many things, can you help? I also wanna have this oportunity to say that I hope all is fine with you, and to send you best regards, :) FkpCascais (talk) 00:33, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, according to consensus, categories should be named the same way club articles are named which means they should be updated in case of name changes. This means that players who used to play for a club when it was called differently shoul be put in the same category (provided of course, that the club had only changed its name; as far as I can tell this does not always apply for clubs which were defunct for before being re-established carrying a different name). For example, players who played for Dinamo Zagreb (1945-1992), HAŠK Građanski (1992) or Croatia Zagreb (1992-2000) all belong to the Category:NK Dinamo Zagreb players (as this is all the same club which went through several name changes), while players who played for Građanski Zagreb do not (as this was a different club founded in 1911 and legally dissolved in 1945). I don't know about Šugar, I googled him a bit and I can't seem to find anything about thim that isn't alredy mentioned in your article. I'll keep trying to see what I can come up with. Also, best regards to you too :-) I haven't been very active on Wikipedia lately but I think I'll be editing more in the coming days. The focus of my editing has also changed a bit and currently I'm creating articles about Yugoslav films which won the Big Golden Arena for Best Film. Perhaps you would be interested to help? Btw, there's this documentary tv series aired on Croatian TV in which they visit places around Europe. In one of the episodes they went to Portugal and visited Cascais and I kept thinking I might see you in there somewhere :-) Anyway, I hope everything's fine with you. Cheers, mate :-) Timbouctou (talk) 01:10, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Many thanx about the categories explanation. I don´t know why, if because I wasn´t here, or I just missed it, but I didn´t knew about that categories consensus. That makes perfect sence, and I see now that I´ll have to add some to some players. Also, I´ll have to update some categories club names. While I knew for some cases, I wasn´t sure for others, but now, thanks to you, I know it. Thanks for trying to help me on Šugar, and I see that you had probably the same experience on google that I had, meaning that a lot of unrelated results appeared. There must be more info, specially because he played for Genk, but it looks that search engines aren´t good for this case... What I find important, and is missing, is the info regarding his death (date and place).
::Conratulations, you are doing a great job on Pula´s film festival. You know, I did worked for some time in moovies, more precisely on post-production, also some figuration more as a hobbie. I´m still a freelancer and participate in different projects when I have time, but unfortunatelly, I am not that much familirised with our moovies, and I don´t know anything that you don´t already. You did everything so well there. It is very nice that you saw images about Cascais (and you remembered me!), I hope they showed some nice images. This place is cool, in a sence that everybody that can, lives here (Cascais/Estoril area) and workes in Lisbon, that is 20km, or 20 minutes away by highway. You have sea and nice beaches (quite different from our Jadran, because is ocean, more wild with waves), nice weather (it snowed last year for first time in 30 years), you have lots of people from everywhere (much of the foreigners that live in Lisbon, live in this area, just as all the cool locals), you have casino, Formula1 (ocasionally, the track is so~so), golf (I love it!), tennis (I have medals from really minor tournaments, yeaaah!), the nightlife is cool (Lisbon rocks!), and is quite safe. There are bad things, as well, but where doesn´t, and who cares, right? Regarding wiki, I did some of the red links from the templates you made, but I have been doing other things as well, so easily we´ll have them done. Well, keep in touch! Regarding NK Olimpija Ljubljana

Hey, I see you fixed the issue regarding the club. I even posted this question at Footy project some time ago, and asked one of the page editors what to do, but I just forgot about it. I saw the 2 pages, and it looks great now. Just a minor question, should the players category also be divided? FkpCascais (talk) 21:52, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey, nice to see you. Yup, I saw that you brought up this issue when I was going through the discussion archives. I hadn't thought about the categories yet as there is much cleaning up to do regarding Olimpija and the whole thing is currently a mess. But yeah, in my opinion categories should be separated as these are two entirely different clubs, at least until UEFA or the Slovenian FA say otherwise. Happy editing and good luck in tomorrow's game against Australia .-) Timbouctou (talk) 21:58, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanx! We can´t win by more that 3 (if win...), so we garantee 2nd place, because 1st will play Argentina in 1/4. If we go trough 2nd, we´ll play 1st from Slovenia group, wich is still unclear, but even England looks shaky, and afterwords Uruguay or S.Korea in 1/4, so there is some chance we get to semi´s... in theory, of course. :) Nice work with Olimpija! FkpCascais (talk) 22:10, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
"We can´t win by more that 3..." What a comment I had, you must have had a great lough with it. It was nice to fly for a couple of days... now, back to reality. Honestly, I knew from the begining that we would have hard time with the Aussies (I remember the hard time you guys had with them in the previous WC) but I did get myself a bit unreal, and for some days I really touth a victory was almost sure... At least I said to you "if win", so I don´t feel completely humiliated :( FkpCascais (talk) 02:01, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey Babu Riba

Thanks for the attention to Dancing in Water. I didn't notice until today that you moved Hey Babu Riba to Dancing in Water. I'm not clear that was a good decision, since as far as I know the title of the movie was never rendered as Dancing in Water (although I certainly wish it always had been!). What's your thinking on that? Did the film ever play as Dancing in Water? Thanks again. --Ring Cinema (talk) 22:52, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me on Dancing in Water. Netflix does not list the film under that title, which I realize is why my suspicions were originally aroused. We are relying on imdb for the facts of its release and I'm not really sure they're correct. My suspicion is based on the fact that a bilingual speaker might think Dancing in Water was certainly the English title, but perhaps Dancing with Wolves (1987) was too recent (?) or other reasons. I'm not sure of the basis of Netflix's usage, but I can't imagine they'd want to mislead on anything. If you're of a mind to check, perhaps there's a non-English source you could check about the English language release...? --Ring Cinema (talk) 14:35, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

European Coastal Airlines

I'm wondering if you know something specific about these guys starting to fly? As far I know, they never actually got started, and their planes were grounded. The Croatian version of the FAA in their wisdom decided that planes could only land at official airports - which did not include the sea! Farscot (talk) 00:35, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Well most of the information used in the article was taken from their website and they claim they had introduced regular services in the summer of 2008, although it seems the company was in hiatus for most of its existence. As for paperwork needed, I've found this article published in August 2002 in Slobodna Dalmacija in which they claim they were granted licences to land on 25 destinations around the Adriatic. It seems that, according to Croatian law, seaplanes are treated as airplanes while in the air (and fall into the jurisdicton of the Croatian FAA) and as boats while floating (and therefore need all the licenses and equipment required for boats and ships, issued by maritime authorities). They also need to purchase a government-issued renewable concession normally required for any kind of business along the Croatian coast and to get that their sea landing locations must be clearly defined (and you can find maps on their website with several proposed landing sites circled in red). Even with all that, they are only allowed to land at a minimum of 300 meters from the coastline, unless they get additional permissions from each Harbormaster's Office (who run every harbour along the coast) if they want to land close to the harbour. Slobodna Dalmacija claims that they had acquired permission to land in Zadar harbour by 2002. They also say that they operated as an air taxi service offering scenic flights too, and that they expected the price to be around 1,200 euros per 1 hour of flight, or around 120 per passenger as the Grumman Goose holds 10 passengers. I have no idea whether they actually had any passengers, but it is certain that they had several promotional flights. In my opinion the company's plans as as presented to Večernji list in the July 1 article are little more than wishful thinking and their CEO probably came to Croatia as a vintage airplane enthusiast who sent the best part of the last 10 years struggling to get all the paperwork done, refurbish his 1944 Grumman Goose and find investors willing to participate in the project. We'll see how it goes but I'd love to see seaplanes shuttling around the Adriatic :-) Timbouctou (talk) 06:56, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Wishful thinking seems to sum it up nicely! A seaplane operation would be perfect for the Croatian islands and these do appear to be genuine aviation enthusiasts trying to set up a business doing what they love. However, that website has not changed in 2 years - if you check the internet archive wayback, you can see all the edits were done June-August 2008. The content of the site seems primarily aimed at raising investment, rather than providing a realistic schedule for passengers. At worst, it may even be a scam. Given that, I'm wondering about the role of Wikipedia in somehow validating this business, which doesn't currently exist, and may never do so. Farscot (talk) 16:26, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
I share your concerns, but I did google it before writing the article and they are mentioned at several aviation websites. I can't remember the exact website but I looked them up in the databse of ICAO codes and they were there. They certainly are registered for business in Croatia and an otherwise reliable new source (Večernji list) seems to consider them a credible operation. Remember, it's not Wikipedia's job to check whether something is true or not. If they have appeared in the media then we should take that as good enough for wikipedia. Plus, if they don't succeed, their failure will also be reported in the media and the article can stay as a notable attempt of introducing seaplanes to Croatia (I hear there were other similar ideas in the past but nobody has ever come close to actually launching such an operation before). Timbouctou (talk) 16:34, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
That all makes sense, yet... the very existence of a wikipedia article tends to add to the perception of credibility. I still have some reservations that this article is slightly misleading, but you're right, they do exist as a company and I will defer to your greater wikipedia experience! I hope they succeed!! Thanks! Farscot (talk) 20:53, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Simplifiying...allways!

Hi. Regarding the simplification of the country of birth for Yugoslavia I agree with you on the following: I use Kingdom of Yugoslavia for the 1918-1943 period (disregarding the long Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes) and the SFR Yugoslavia for the 1943-1991 period (disregarding the FPR Yugoslavia). However, I need to check with you if we agree on the following issue: We do need to have some identification for Yugoslavia as birthcountry, either Kingdom or SFR, because we will start now having footballers born in FR Yugoslavia, so it will be good to differenciate them. Resumingly, we simplify to a point of having only 3 Yugoslavia´s (Kingdom, SFR and FR) but we avoid leaving only Yugoslavia to avoid missunderstanding. Agree? FkpCascais (talk) 05:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Well I'm totally for simplifying birth countries. In my opinion we only need 3 designations - Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918-1943), Yugoslavia (1943-1991) and FR Yugoslavia (1992-2003). Although the consensus reached at WP:FOOTY says that the name of the country entered should be as it was at the time of person's birth, I think we should aim to make it as simple as possible for our readers, keeping in mind that a) "Kingdom of Yugoslavia" was colloquially referred to as such even during the SHS period; b) "Yugoslavia" was what the country was known as for almost 50 years, and is synonymous with the communist period in the country's history; c) "FR Yugoslavia" is what FIFA called the country after 1992. I think insisting on keeping both "SFR" and "FPR" versions, in addition to "FR" (as well as insisting on the "Kingdom of SCS") is not only too confusing for most of our readers who know little about the political circumstances in the region, but also irrelevant. If we narrow it down to these three we have covered all the periods, without comprimising the facts. There was practically no difference between Kingdom of SCS or Kingdom of Yugoslavia as it only involved a name change, and there was no significant difference between SFR and FPR forms of the communist version. On the other hand, as you know, the Yugoslavia which existed for only 11 years between 1992 and 2003 was a country significantly different from the one which was known under that name for 48 years earlier so the designation should be kept. I don't plan to go on a wholesale editing spree and delete all instances of "SFR" in infoboxes, but I do think I'll just stick with Yugoslavia for players born there 1943-1991. After all, colloquial names in English for certain countries are already widely used on wikipeda (for instance, it's okay to use South Korea even though its proper name is actually Republic of Korea). On the other hand, DR Congo is often used to distinguish the country from what is usually known as just Congo, so these abbreviations should be used only when there is a danger of readers confusing two or more countries, which is the case here only with the communist Yugoslavia and FR Yugoslavia. Having said that, I know that there are editors who will find it difficult to agree with me (and there have been instances of editors on insisting on putting "Kingdom of SCS" or "FPR Yugoslavia" in infoboxes), but I think that kind of attitude isn't just unnecessary nitpicking but is also slightly misleading as it implies that there were more countries here than even we (people who live in these parts) usually think. If you feel otherwise, feel free to put "SFR" in infoboxes, but I just don't see the point on insisting on such nuances. I don't think there will be many cases of misunderstanding with just "Yugoslavia" as probably 99% of our readers automatically assume we're talking about the FPR/SFR version when they see that name. Cheers! Timbouctou 06:49, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh and btw I've noticed that you were a bit involved with the article on Luigi Ossoinach recently. I've created the Stojan Osojnak aticle a few days ago and it seems very likely to me that these two were related (Osojnak obviously being the Croatian-spelled version of the same surname). Do you think you could find any sources which could confirm if they were related or at least ask some of the Italian contributors about it as you seem to speak the language? Thanks! Timbouctou 06:54, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, regarding Osojnak, it was more about the issue if they wee related and about the different kinds of writting the name in different languages. Btw, congrats for the Stojan Osojnak article, it simply looks great. Regarding the Yugoslavia issue, I really don´t wanna sound annoying, but I really beleave that by using the SFR Yugoslavia instead of simply Yugoslavia could be beneficial because that way we would avoid entering into the undesirable politics of having to choose which Yugoslavia is more Yugoslavia than other, and on the other hand, we want give room to any polemics or disputes. After all, it´s only 3 letters, and it would be consistent with the Kingdom and FR namings. I perfectly understand your argument of most people associating Yugoslavia to SFRY, but I don´t know... it simply feels better. Regarding the rest, I completely agree on everything you said, specially on the issue of wanting to prevent further complications by using the SHS, PFR, etc. FkpCascais (talk) 21:16, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I saw that you have contributed on Prva HNL. As you can see, the league was formed in 1991. Yet throughout the article there is information that talks about the 1940s??? Re: Populated places

Hi! I noticed you've been working on populated places' stubs. (Done a bit of work myself...) My hope is that, once all populated places are categorized by county, someone could run a bot which would update their respective infoboxes with county information and perhaps some other things (like changing unit_pref from Imperial to Metric).

Not sure about the template - it does not provide any benefits over categories and/or lists. What certainly would be useful is something like e.g. List of populated places in Međimurje County, perhaps done as a table, displaying population, coordinates and such. It would be a big endeavor - there are 6000 or so registered populated places in Croatia - but such a list is ultimately easier to do and to maintain than 1000 or so stubs that we have now. Some (most?) could then be made into redirects. This might be an alternative to the bot run mentioned above.

Perhaps a matter for discussion at the WP Croatia talk page? GregorB (talk) 09:05, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Re: Croatian NBA players

I strongly disagree with your suggestion that the information is somehow lost because of the merge. The same info is already listed on List of foreign NBA players, so I don't see the point of having a separate list. If you don't like it, it's fine. I will bring it to afd and have the community decide. Also I don't appreciate the way you categorize my edits. They clearly aren't "interferences" like you said.—Chris!c/t 18:49, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Really? The same information is already listed in the List of foreign NBA players? Very well then, would you like to point out where I could find the column with match statistics in your list? Or any of the 4 players who were drafted but didn't actually appear in NBA games? You've also shown a considerate lack of regard to the community process when you decided to perform such a change without even attempting to discuss it in the article's talk page. As for the "let's make the community decide" part, I've restored both the List of Serbian NBA players and List of Croatian NBA players and notified WP:CRO and WP:SRB. Cheers. Timbouctou 18:59, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Those info can be find on that person's bio page. We are here to list foreign players, not to list every possible statistics of that player. I have been WP:BOLD in the merging process because I seriously think it is not controversial. But obviously I was incorrect.—Chris!c/t 19:05, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
I must add that players drafted but didn't actually play in NBA games aren't considered NBA players.—Chris!c/t 19:16, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Nomination of List of Croatian NBA players for deletion

A discussion has begun about whether the article List of Croatian NBA players, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Croatian NBA players until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. —Chris!c/t 18:57, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Re: Football infoboxes

If the current consensus is that in such cases only the country as it was known at the time of birth should be used, then ok. I don't agree with such a consensus, but nevertheless I am ok. with that, as I don't have much interest in that area (sport). The only reason why I started adding "modern Croatia" was to stop several edit wars. Some useres were deleting Yugoslavia and adding Croatia, so I thought that solution with Yugoslavia (modern Croatia) would be a good solution for everybody. In your comment at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kresimir_Chris_Kunej_(3rd_nomination) was the "his" in "which, ironically, Kunej says himself in his 2005 article about the whole thing" supposed to be "this"? It doesn't look to me as though that article was written by Kunej. SmartSE (talk) 00:40, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

I've explained it in the AfD. The article was very likely written by Kunej himself, but there's no way to know for sure unless you want me to phone the magazine (which itself says something about the his notability as even the trade magazine doesn't consider him notable enough to sign his article using his full name). The Wikipedia article was also probably written by him as it is more than obvious that him and Turqoise are one and the same. Timbouctou 01:57, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Italic Title?

Hi. Could you please sort out what is happening with this sort of reversion (before too much change is introduced throughout WP)? Thanks.  HWV258.  01:41, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I have no idea. According to the WP:ITALICTITLE policy adopted in September italics in article titles should be used in all cases "when italics would be used in running text" such as "titles of books, films, and other creative works", which probably includes operas too. I ran into this template and policy recently while working on something else so I added the italic template to some 20 opera articles in good faith. However, user Francesco Malipiero reverted them all for unknown reasons. Timbouctou 01:49, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Italictitle reverts

Members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera will be happy to provide you with an explanation. --Francesco Malipiero (talk) 01:47, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I apoligize for the above short and uncivil answer, I feel I owe you an explanation for my reverts. I had three reasons:

  1. this guideline from the WikiProject Opera;
  2. this archived discussion, which did not result in a consencus to change the above guideline (on the contrary);
  3. the fact that there is obviously no general consencus across the entire Wiki project regarding the use of Italic titles. I refer to the popular music articles in WikiPedia. There are hundreds (maybe even thousands) of articles on popular music albums. Eventhough album-titles are italicized in running text, I have been unable to find a single article about an album that has an italicized article title.

Best Regards. --Francesco Malipiero (talk) 19:49, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Libertas (film)

Hey, nice touch on the article... I was planning to nominate it for DYK as a 5x expansion. There are some rough edges to be fixed (plot summary is one of them), and nomination time would be tomorrow. If you feel like chipping in I would appreciate it - and if not, you've already earned a shared credit anyway. GregorB (talk) 13:27, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

I've added an expanded plot section to the article and I'll do a few of the red-linked actors now. I think the article could easily get a GA rating if a bit more work is done on it, and here are some suggestions:
  • "Themes" seems to be a more widely used title for the "Interpretation" section which could list all the themes found in the film (although it seems Libertas mainly deals with just the idea of liberty and freedom of speech etc.). If the section could be expanded a little that would be great, but I think there's already enough said in there;
  • The Cast section could be a bit expanded with information about characters, as well as actors themselves (what they did before, why were they picked for the part, etc)
  • Since the film deals with a historical figure, the article should say something about how accurate is the story regarding real historic events as opposed to pure fiction (for example, it seems that there are at least four letters written by Marin to Cosimo asking for support in overthrowing the Ragusan authorities). I suppose citing an expert commenting on the historical accuracy wouldn't be needed here as merely citing what is known for sure about the life and times of Marin should be enough. Also, saying something about Marin's background (as the film only deals with the later stages of his life and is not really biographical per se) wouldn't hurt.
If we manage to iron-out these small issues I think we could run with that at GAN and quite possibly push through the very first Croatian GA film article. Best regards. Timbouctou 03:48, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
P.S. I've nominated Stradun (street) for DYK and it seems it will pass the nomination, but I feel it could use more references. Do me a favor and take a look at it and see if you could tweak the article or add some refs. Thanks. Timbouctou 03:51, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Excellent... I was thinking about expanding the plot, but did not have time to do it yesterday. I meant to use "Themes" as a section name, but decided on "Interpretation" as there is a single theme at the moment (although sources support another theme, that of a supposedly famous playwright being completely ignored in Italy, so this could definitely be changed).
Also, I agree with the rest of your comments. Still, I was a bit surprised by your GAN suggestion - it's not that the article is not (potentially) there, it's just that it was far from my original intention. I was aiming for 5x expansion and nothing more. I haven't even seen the film. (And don't plan to... :) ) But it is simply something interesting and substantial to write about... So why not make it GA then, I agree.
For the time being, I'll see what I can do about Stradun. See you later, GregorB (talk) 09:09, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Academy of Fine Arts Munich

I see no evidence of discussion before this was moved. This issue has been discussed somewhere - the German style is not to use a comma, and these are direct translations of the official title, as used in English by the institutions themselves. There are several German institutions where this style was used, and the discussion confirmed it. I don't have strong views, but they should not be moved without debate. Johnbod (talk) 11:43, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I don't have strong views about it either, I was merely moving it to conform with all the other Academies of Fine Arts. There is a number same-titled schools around Europe, many of whom are usually referred to along the lines of "Academy of Fine Arts in cityXYZ" in their native languages, which then gets translated in English as either "AFA, XYZ", "AFA in XYZ", "AFA of XYZ" or just "AFA XYZ" or even sometimes "AFA (XYZ)" (and it's the same thing with various Museums of Contemporary Art). Sometimes these translations are official (e.g. used in their websites), sometimes they are not (e.g. it's a literal translation created by a wiki editor). Many of these are unique institutions in their countries so in the native form the "Academy of Fine Arts" is used exclusively, while the "in XYZ" is often added just in English merely to distinguish it from all the others. I couldn't find anything about such cases at WP:NAME so I did this simply to establish some general guideline which would help in determining future article titles. I don't particularly care about which format should be used but IMO we do need some level of standardisation here as these are esentially all the same type of institution, just located in different places and article titles should probably reflect that. Timbouctou 12:20, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
There are also music conservatories etc. We needn't make a fetish of consistency, & these have websites with an official name in English. Johnbod (talk) 12:51, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Explanation

Hi there TIMBOCTOU, VASCO from Portugal here,

Yes, i agree that my summary in Tonel was very strange, but now i defend myself: please have a look at this investigation file (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Pararubbas/Archive). Get what's happening? This guy is showing a total lack of respect for the site, talking to NO ONE in three years (at least) of edits, writing no summaries, having an appalling grasp of English (even though he edits from England), etc, etc...

I have reported nearly 50 sock accounts from him - maybe he has more, he opened two accounts at once on more than one occasion! - he has recreated articles which were removed by admins (!!). As you can see from Tonel's page, he also has anon IP address(es). How many? Endless, i tell you my friend! His addition in Tonel was nothing but a redirect - no such thing as Portuguese Cup or Portuguese SuperCup, just click there - written in appalling fashion. During several months in the past, he went as far as removing the dots in club names, thus engaging in more redirects (i.e. S.L. Benfica was made SL Benfica, over and over again), people talk to him, he says "whatever".

I don't know about you, but i won't let him rest for one second - and several users and admins back me up on my reports and/or complaints - at least until he reaches out to the community. Attentively, have a great weekend - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:04, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

  • I though that, after my explanation, i would deserve some kind of reply, i see i was wrong... --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:28, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Oh I'm sorry and I apologize. I read your reply and went on to take care of a couple of things on Wikipedia and then forgot all about it. I don't mind your edits, I'm aware of the problem now and I'm fine with it, it's just that you can't expect other editors to be aware of troublemakers such as Parrubas so taking the time to explain in 3-4 words why you removed something would have saved us all some time. By the way, what is the deal with Tonel's time at Sporting and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira and Taça de Portugal? Did he play any part in Sporting's 2007 and 2008 cup and supercup wins or not? Cheers. Timbouctou 17:35, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your reply man, no need to apologize whatsoever, i however do apologize for being so hasty :)

Regarding your question, Tonel indeed won those competitions, i readded it to HONOURS (with better display and with another accolade), it's just that i will remove EVERY "contribution" by this vandal Pararubbas i come across (did you know that, in his early accounts, he removed LINKS and REFS from articles, "gluing" all the sentences in storyline? He did), at least until he talks to someone. I also apologize for conveying false information to you, Pararubbas' edit in Tonel's page was not anonymous, it was with another sock, NIMOP890.

Hi Timbouctou, I don't understand your revert of my edit on Stadion Koturaška page. Both of those games played on that stadium were in 1940. Croatian help

Hi Timbouctou, I'm reviewing a DYK hook about Croatia, do you think you could check references 28 and 29 in A7 (Croatia) to check that the article is accurate? I'm fairly sure they are, but always like to check foreign sources before it gets to the main page. Thanks a lot SmartSE (talk) 15:41, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Reference 28 is an article published in the Građevinar construction trade magazine in July 2008 which talks in detail about plans for what had been upcoming construction on the Rijeka bypass:
  • "Predviđena je i posebna zaštita od buke, na jednom dijelu (352 m) kao zatvorena okvirna konstrukcija, što je prvi takav slučaj u Hrvatskoj." (page 636; Građevinar magazine, July 2008)
("A special 352-metre-long fully enclosed noise barrier will be built in one section [of the bypass], which will be the first of its kind in Croatia.")
(page 637; July 2008)
(The [noise] problem is especially pronounced in the suburban areas of Krnjevo (where six-story buildings are located just 20 meters away [from the road]) and Rastočine (where 26-story residential buildings are just 40 meters away). It is in Rastočine that the above mentioned fully enclosed barrier will be built.)
Reference 29 was taken from a short article published in the Novi list daily in November 2009 which talks about the announced temporary closure of some sections of the bypass because of the construction of the barrier, expected to take about 20 days:
(November 2009)
(The section will be closed for traffic on Sunday so that contruction work on the southern part of the road may commence. A "fake" tunnel built of noise barriers will be built, [covered] with solar panels intended to harness [solar] power. The chief engineer Hrvoje Ordulj said that the tunnel would be located near the residential skyscraper in Rastočine and that it would be 354 metres long. He added that the project entails installing 177 steel arches, each one weighing around 2 tons.)
I can hereby confirm that the references are accurate and support the currently proposed ALT2 hook. I took the time to add a bit more detailed translation here in case you want to use some of it for other alternative hooks (the installation of solar panels sounds like it may be worth mentioning and the fact that the structure stands on 177 steel arches weighing over 354 tons in total might be an interesting piece of information for motorway buffs :-)
Best regards. Timbouctou 00:51, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion, I agree that's really interesting. Cheers!--Tomobe03 (talk) 11:16, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! You went above and beyong the call of duty. Cheers SmartSE (talk) 15:55, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Luis Ibáñez

Hi, noticed you do a lot on updating and maintaining Dinamo Zagreb's articles, and that you're pretty experienced with administrative stuff. Anyway, just wanted to ask if this article of Luis Ibáñez is any good for GA status and how do you ask for reviews? ProgFilozof (talk) 18:14, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

I've noticed you figured it out already by listing it at WP:GAN. I don't have any experience reviewing good article nominations but it seems to me that the article stands a good chance of passing through although more work needs to be done. I suggest browsing some of the GA football biographies here for possible ideas as to how to improve the article, as well as checking if it meets everything described at WP:GACR. I will look over the article more closely today or tomorrow and leave comments on the article's talk page if you'd like. If you need more help, feel free to ping me. Thanks a lot. ProgFilozof (talk) 12:27, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Kornati

Re this, could you perhaps propose an article rename? You seem to know more about the topic than I do. Perhaps Kornati (archipelago) could be compromise to satisfy those who will argue that "archipelago" is not part of the common name? Good Ol’factory (talk) 20:49, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

A yes or no would be fine. I just want to know if someone is pursuing this or not? Good Ol’factory (talk) 08:55, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back to your proposal. I've left some suggestions at Talk:Kornati Islands, you are invited to participate in the discussion. I will also notify the folks at WP:CRO. Regards. Timbouctou 11:02, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks; I didn't mean to be hectoring, I just wasn't sure if you wanted to do this or not. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:25, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
