Changes to Years hierarchies
editIt seems you are making extensive changes to the linking of the Years by country hierarchies, such as this one, exchanging Category:History of Norway with Category:History of Norway by period. What has prompted you to make these changes? I am unaware of any previous discussion about this, so if there has been one, I'd appreciate a link to it. __meco (talk) 08:39, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
the Netherlands vs. Netherlands
editI see that in Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 December 29#World War II by country, you requested that Category:The Netherlands in World War II be renamed to not have the word "the" in the name. Please note that this wasn't done. If you do want it done, feel free to make a new nomination for that. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:29, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Survival.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Survival.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:52, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure these categories are particularly useful, especially as most of them have few items... --Deryck C. 16:39, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- They only have a few items in them now as the category system is only recently established. Tim! (talk) 17:24, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Overcategorization
editHello, I see you've already been noticed above, but please do deliberate on categorization policies, before starting to add them massively. In my opinion, your categorizations fall under Wikipedia:Overcategorization#Mostly_overlapping_categories or, worse, Wikipedia:Overcategorization#Non-defining_or_trivial_characteristic. It makes absolutely no sense to add Categories on 'XY establishments' to articles that already contain numerous categories (incl. those covering defining features). Populated places categories
editRegarding the addition of populated places categories to counties, populated places are equivalent to towns, cities, and other types of settlements, so although counties have populations, they are not populated places according to the current category scheme. I've been removing these categories from the Oregon counties, but if you've been adding them anywhere else, it might be a good idea to remove them. Putting the establishment dates into the U.S. category is helpful though, thanks! Valfontis (talk) 20:13, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello! I was wondering what the purpose of this category (and it subs) is going to be, as it seems to be a doppleganger of Category:Connecticut elections by year. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 20:23, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
- At the moment it has the elections in Connecticut subcategory but there are lot of other things that will go in such as any events, disasters, case law, protests and probably in the longer term establishments including schools, companies, museums, theatres etc. Tim! Years in England
editSpiritofstgeorge recently edited Template:England year nav, removing the heading "Years in the Kingdom of England (927–1706)", adding redlinks to years past 1706, and going on to create new pages at 1707 in England and 1708 in England. At this edit the links from 1706 in England to 1707 in Great Britain and 1708 in Great Britain were altered to point to the new pages instead. I have reverted the changes to the template and 1706 in England and I am proposing that these new "England" pages should be merged to 1707 in Great Britain and 1708 in Great Britain, although so far as I can make out the content of both has simply been copied from those pages, so there may be nothing to merge. I am not sure where this is intended to lead and fear there could be an awful lot of disruption and duplication. Moonraker (talk) 23:48, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for informing me, I quite agree that this just duplication. Tim! (talk) 06:48, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Mimi and nyami copy.png
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:Mimi and nyami copy.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Ghana
editHi. Can you split the rest of Category:Populated places in Ghana by region? Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:16, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- yeah I think I can do it. Tim! (talk) 20:26, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. For some reason though the Ashanti Reghion articles are being put into the Volta Region category//♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:51, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- I think some were erroneously in Category:Volta Region instead of Category:Ashanti Region. but thanks I will double check them. Tim! (talk) 20:53, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I've fixed the others. Should be OK to proceed now, with caution! Cheers.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:58, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Definitely. :) Tim! (talk) 20:58, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Indianapolis 500
editJust thought I'd alert you to this edit where you categorized the Indianapolis 500 as being disestablished in 1996. Was this a misfire of some sort of automated tool you were using or were you actually under the impression that the race ceased in 1996? If it's the former I recommend figuring out why your software thought that. If it's the later I recommend you read articles you aren't familiar with more carefully before categorizing them. -Drdisque (talk) 22:54, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Whoops. Tim! (talk) 05:53, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
School cats
editI see you've been busy recategorising various Kent school articles. It seems that we may need Category:Co-educational schools in Kent, which also means a whole new tree under Category:Co-educational schools. What do you think? Mjroots (talk) 09:33, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- So far I can only find Category:Co-educational boarding schools, but there would appear to be some scope for what you suggest. Tim! (talk) 07:38, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I was just wondering what the point of this category was, given that QEH is the only boys' school in the city. -mattbuck (Talk) 09:54, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
- The category is part of Category:Boys' schools in England which is now divided by county. 1 member categories are permitted as part of such categorisation schemes even though they seem a bit strange when you first see them! Tim! (talk) 06:10, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Libya
editHi. Can you split Category:Populated places in Libya by Districts of Libya?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:56, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
- Do you think the names of the categories should be Category:Populated places in Marj District or Category:Populated places in Al Marj District? I'm thinking no Al but seeing existing categories such as Category:Al Jabal al Akhdar District. Tim! (talk) 06:37, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
- Use the existing districts inTemplate:Districts of Libya. I think some of them might be old districts and might need renaming.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Though the ground is near Camberley in Surrey, I think that it is over the border in Berkshire. The article on the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst itself would certainly imply that. I'm not 100% certain, though, so haven't changed the category. JH (talk page) 08:31, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

CFDS question
editI'm not sure what you're getting at by opposing the changes to the "British ambassadors" categories at CFDS. As I've stated there, they seem to clearly meet the C2C standard, so I'm curious as to what you have in mind in suggesting that these isolated categories need to be discussed. (You can respond at CFDS rather than here if you want to respond.) Thanks, Good Ol’factory (talk) 21:00, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Tim. Can you split this category by Provinces of Saudi Arabia?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:38, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
Cheers. Can you also empty Category:Populated places in Yemen? I'll empty the Saudi one what's left now, thanks. I'll also try to populate some of the smaller categories to even it up a bit..♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:54, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Mm seems the system is in the xxx Governorate as opposed to is in xxx Governorate. Abyan, Sana'a etc all have the xxx Governorate?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:06, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hrmm... annoying. I think if coupled with one of the ones beginning Al, that would be very awkward. Tim! (talk) 21:10, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Nicely sorted! Can you empty Category:Populated places in Tanzania?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:27, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Tim, can you create buildings and structures categories for all of the provinces of Indonesia like Category:Buildings and structures in North Sumatra. If you see how the Category:Populated places in North Sumatra etc are ordered that can be replicated by province, region etc. E,g Category:Buildings and structures in North Sumatra would be a sub category of Category:Buildings and structures in Sumatra If there are any empty ones at the end I'll fill em a bit.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:39, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Great job. Is it possible you can to a what link here with NGO or Non-governmental organisation or search and populate Category:Non-governmental organisations based in Germany?♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:18, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
- Category:Non-governmental organizations based in Germany nominated for renaming/merging to Category:Non-governmental organisations based in Germany. Tim! (talk) 18:39, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
No objection, but note there is no consensus over spelling, I proposed to name them all with z or s before and there was disagreement over American vs English spelling. I just created Category:Kalundborg Municipality and realised that none of the Category:Municipalities of Denmark have their own categories yet we have articles on a few subjects within each one. Can you create municipal categories and try to catch articles on topics within each one based on what link here or something? If you could link them in categories like this so they go in the Category:Danish municipality categories and the regional municipal category..♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:21, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Adding categories to file mirror pages
editHi; I've noticed you've been adding a number of categories to files/images. Are you aware that when you do so (add a category to the file page using hotcat, for instance) and the image is actually located at Wikimedia Commons, you are actually creating a WP page that is already mirrored from Commons. When you create these files, they are eligible for speedy deletion under "F2: File description page for a file on Commons". It's a bit of a confusing issue, but I did want you to be aware of it since you have put in some work categorizing images that won't be categorized in WP, only in Commons. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:43, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. Tim! (talk) 05:55, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
