Diploma mills edit

Ta for picking that up. Mind, I think Belford University is probably in a worse state now (outright rant against diploma mills). Morwen - Talk 10:57, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Anyone see the interesting information on Belford University at EssayFraud.org? Belford also runs term paper mills, and they are from Pakistan. Total crooks and scam artists. Scroll to the bottom of the following page for details:

Image request edit

Hey, while it's cold and dark outside, you should go try to get good pictures of the Danish Crown Regalia. My attempt when visiting in 2003 was a failure, the dim lighting needs long exposures and all the ones I took were fuzzy. Other artifacts and furniture in Rosenborg would be handy too, lots of the articles on antique objects are unadorned or have nonfree images. Stan 20:15, 5 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Thue! No, I did not misread the licence. I was indeed trying to show that the image Image:RFederer.jpg cannot be used for any purpose, as stated.", and therefore that the licence tag it had was not correct. I also think that the image must be deleted, because commercial use is clearly not permitted. Thanks, --Mschlindwein 22:32, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ah, of course :). I was confused by the fact that the copyrightedfreeuse template was still on the picture. Thue | talk 22:37, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Greenwich University edit

I removed both your "notorious degree mill operator" description of Bear, and your opponent's "world-famous education author" description, because they obviously indicated a situation where consensus was required. In an attempt to achieve consensus, I placed a message on the talk page and created a stub on John Bear. Please don't revert to your "notorious degree mill operator" version again until we have reached a consensus on the talk page. Snottygobble 07:18, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

He is not my opponent, and it is not "my version". I just per principle revert any uncommented IP edits which change articles of alledged diploma mills into glowing reviews (This has been happening a lot). Thue | talk 07:32, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's fair enough, but you reverted my subsequent edit too.
You seem to have an interest in diploma mills; I would appreciate any help you can give to John Bear, which really is an awful stub. Like I said, I only created the article in order to broker a consensus between two diametrically opposed views. I really know nothing about the subject. Snottygobble 08:03, 17 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh sorry, I didn't notice your edit :(. I have just made a somewhat throughout google search, and as far as I can tell John Bear seems to be legit. Though some people on usenet flame him for being a fraud, there seems to be no firm evidence against him (and the flamers don't seem to be trustworthy), and my feeling is that he is not a fraud. Anthony Rupert edit

My page was deleted because I am a "non-notable person"? What exactly does "notable" mean to you? I have written several copyrighted novels, so I guess I'm a little confused.

Well, for one thing the article did not mention your novels, so they were not considered. It now also seems your article was an Wikipedia:autobiography, which is discouraged. If you want to see what notable means, go to WP:BIO, but please consider not creating an article about yourself as recommended at Wikipedia:autobiography. Thue | talk 07:33, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I apologize for not reading the autobiography guidelines. Is it still all right to have the WONDERFUL P.I.s page? COMPFUNK2 11:27, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Given that I can't find anything about them on google, they are probably not notable enough for inclusion either; see also Wikipedia:Fancruft. Thue | talk 11:32, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Danish cabinet positions edit

Hi Thue

Great idea about the template, but a few ministerial posts are missing in order to make a complete list for all post-1848 governments:

  • Minister for Iceland
  • Minister for Schleswig
  • Minister for Holstein and Lauenburg
  • Minister for the Monarchy's Joint Internal Affairs
  • Minister of War (redirect to Minister of Defence?)
  • Minister of the Navy (redirect Minister of Defence?)
  • Minister for Public Works
  • Minister for South Jutland (Affairs) (1919)

It might be an idea to rename "Inactive posts" to "Historical offices" as well. Just my thoughts. Regards. --Valentinian (talk) 18:05, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I have added those. Note that I have been trying to standardize the English names of the offices (not least because the names I had added myself were inconsistent), with the priorities being
  • Simularity to the Danish names
  • Consistency among the names in Wikipedia
  • Good english
The names I choose can be seen in the template, and consider that template the reference for naming (including the consistent use of "(Denmark)" at the end where neccesary). I plan to update the naming elsewhere to match it. Do my choices seem reasonable to you? Thue | talk 18:54, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
They seem pretty fine to me. I personally hate the "Minister of ..." construction, so I'm glad you've been able to avoid it in many cases. I personally like "of Denmark" more than the "(Denmark)" construction, but if that is the price that must be paid to have some sort of consistency, then so be it. I've been rearranging the list of historical offices a bit, but I don't know if it might be an idea to alphabetize the list?
In the ideal world, each government office should have a (short) article, a list of the politicians holding that office, and a (stub) article for each holder of the office (including succession boxes). I know it will be an awful lot of work, but it should still be the goal. Speaking of the lists of cabinet ministers, I've been standardizing some of the lists to the same format as the ones I've made myself, and if I get the time, I'll do the rest as well. I use e.g. List of Justice Ministers of Denmark or List of Tax Ministers of Denmark as a guideline. --Valentinian (talk) 23:46, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Btw Cutie123, would you mind not posting your comments in the middle of a conversation between Thue and me? You made it seem like *I'd* made that post! --Valentinian (talk) 23:46, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if you've seen the Category:Government of Greece, the lists there are pretty good. They've also had to tackle the issue with cabinet officies changing names etc (e.g. Minister for Culture (Greece). Apparently they list the office under its current name with references to its former names. That seems to work pretty well. Best regards. --Valentinian (talk) 12:31, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request/Question - Ashot II edit

Hello. I had noticed that you had cleared some of my reported copyvios so I am hoping you can assist me with a question.

I had marked the article, Ashot II as a copyvio on February 24 and notified the submitter. Today, the submitter messaged me back that they would fix it and, in fact, they did write a new stub for this article.

I assume that since the copyvio was fixed it is acceptable for the submitter to clear the copyvio tag out and rewrite the article. (???) My confusion is that this is contrary to the instructions on the copyvio tag.

Thanks!

James084 21:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The policy is that copyvio text should also be removed from page history, so I have deleted the two oldest versions of the article. This is equivalent to what would have happened if the submitter had followed the instructions and written the new version on the temporary subpage, in which case I would have deleted the original and moved the new version into place. I hope that answers your question :). Thue | talk 22:22, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

World War II edit

Hi Thue

I noticed your redlink on Anders Fogh Rasmussen. I'm a bit uncertain in information about the collaboration policy should be included under Occupation of Denmark or its own article. Do you have any particular preferences? Regards. Valentinian (talk) 12:00, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

It should probably redirect to Occupation of Denmark, at least for now. Thue | talk 12:03, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good to me. Btw, Occupation of Denmark had been moved to a very cumbersome name without debate, so I've restored it to its old name (another user did the same for a second article moved by the same editor.) I don't see any problem with the simple name since the entire country has never been occupied by any other foreign power, and no clear consensus exists on the names of WWII articles (except that they generally use short names). Orphaned fair use image (Image:Everywhere Girl.png) edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Everywhere Girl.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dionyseus 15:58, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Block on 213.42.21.81 edit

Hi Thule, per this unblock-en-l email, I've unblocked 213.42.21.81 (talkcontribsWHOISblock userblock log) for the time being. From my experience, it seems like Emirates Telecommunications is a bit of a problematic ISP since they apparently use multiple load balancing proxy servers. --  Netsnipe  ►  06:55, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't seem to be visible from the block log, but I think the block I placed was an "IP-only, not accounts or account creation" block. I think this is appropriate for a proxy server, and I suggest a reblock, perhaps with a more appropriate block comment :). I can't read the email you reference, the archive requires a password. Thue | talk 11:06, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Subscribe at http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/unblock-en-l and disable mail delivery if you want archive access only. If you're going to reblock, I suggest short soft-blocks only. The entire UAE is routed through those proxies for government censorship. See Etisalat. --  Netsnipe  ►  14:45, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
