Bill Evans?

edit

Hi Therealex, one more question about Ray Alexander (musician). Do you happen to know if the "Bill Evans" mentioned in the article is Bill Evans or Bill Evans (saxophonist)? The Rough Guide to Jazz isn't clear on that point. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 18:20, 17 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Howicus,

It was Bill Evans, the pianist. In fact, Dad met Bill on a gig when Bill first came to New York. Bill needed work, and Dad hooked him up with a "club date" leader - in New York, a club date is a wedding, bar-mitzvah, that sort of thing. Dad saw him soon after and asked how it went. Bill said "Ray, thanks for the gig. But I came to New York to play jazz, and that's all I'm going to do. Maybe I'll starve, but I'm going to focus on jazz."

He didn't starve...
