Thanks for uploading Image:Irium.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:08, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

ENSCO edit

You said: "Our HQ is officially in Falls Church (not Annandale). Google Maps correctly resolves our street address and ZIP code to Falls Church, as well."

Therath, when we describe locations on Wikipedia, we are precise. If the headquarters location is outside of the City of Falls Church, then we do not say that it is "in Falls Church" - The location, put in a map, clearly resolves to Annandale, not Falls Church. If the company says in communications that its HQ is in Falls Church, then a ", near Falls Church" clause after the "in Annandale" portion should be sufficient.

As for the postal address, there are many United States Postal Service addresses that indicate one city when the area is in another city, or in an unincorporated area.

It is especially important in this case to indicate the real location of the company, as it is not possible for a company in Fairfax County to also be in Falls Church (an independent city) - Even if the company on its website says it is headquartered in "Falls Church, VA," we can't literally say that if the HQ location lies within Fairfax County. We can acknowledge that by saying "near Falls Church" WhisperToMe (talk) 14:24, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

To help illustrate this, look at this Yahoo! Maps entry showing the location of the ENSCO HQ, versus the city limits of Falls Church - ENSCO's HQ does not border the Falls Church city limits. WhisperToMe (talk) 14:32, 24 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Wikipedia's article on "Annandale" is about the census-designated place (see Annandale, Virginia). The government itself arbitrarily defined Annandale in that way, but Wikipedia uses the census-designated place definition and all of the census information from it. The article is not about any "local understanding" of the place's boundaries. The U.S. government definition is the one we use when we say "this is in Annandale" or "this is not in Annandale"
    • So when Wikipedia says "Annandale, Virginia" it is about the census-designated place, full stop.
  • Your quote does well to state how these boundaries are chosen, but Wikipedia writes articles about the census-designated places, so therefore we have to use those boundaries
  • "ENSCO HQ is definitely not in Annandale" - There is no dispute whatsoever that it is inside the Annandale census-designated place - And whenever you see "Annandale, Virginia" on Wikipedia, it is always referring to the census-designated place.
  • "Our mailing address is Falls Church," - It says Falls Church - but we know by now that mailing addresses are separate from municipal and CDP boundaries, and locations of places use municipal and CDP boundaries.
  • "and the company is incorporated in Falls Church." - Is there a reference that says that the company is incorporated in the City of Falls Church?
