Orphaned non-free image File:Downbythewater.PNG edit

Thanks for uploading File:Downbythewater.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:35, 8 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Down By the Water edit

You know, by coincidence I was about to ask why this was the default choice, and not Polly Harvey's song of the same - which charted, and is by Polly Harvey, hardly an unknown ffs - but thankfully you've solved the issue by turning it into a redirect. Obviously great minds think alike. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 18:15, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors edit

Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:17, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Template, etc edit

The New Nethrland template is fine (actually really can't tell so much, so all the better) A favor: Can you lift the map from this http://lautenberg.senate.gov/assets/Gateway.pdf and down load to Commons. I'm a Luddite (not really), just unskilled. Would be great for the article, and much appreciated. It US gov, so legit, I think Djflem (talk) 23:10, 9 February 2011 (UTC) Actually, I meant http://www.flickr.com/photos/hopeful_in_nj/5426421520/, found on flckr but from the on the same government website. Wrapping up edit

Hi - I was wondering whether you would like to revert some of the changes to your version of the D'Jais site before I go in and tie some of the old references to your content. I may also add a few referenced factual statements. I think the page will be stronger with both print and online references listed now that it is out of discussion. I will stick with your reference style. Can you tell me what reference style you used so that I can look it up? Thanks. Smm201`0 (talk) 18:28, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi - left a message for you on my talk page. Smm201`0 (talk) 22:44, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Schuetzen Park edit

Hey. Nice pic of the Festival Hall. That's not from the anniversary book, I gave you, isn't it? Is it from that other book you told me about? Speaking of which, can you give me a link to where that book is? I'd love to see it.

Question, though: Are you sure an old shot of the Hall from 1907 is a better choice than a shot of how it looks today? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 00:18, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

No, you don't have to give it back. If you want more time to find the right equipment, that's fine, since I won't be putting it on WikiBooks if you give back to me anyway.
Unless there's something about 1907 that more directly relevant to its notability, I favor a current shot. Nightscream (talk) 03:17, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Alright, if you insist. I'll see if I can contact the people at the Kennedy Center. Nightscream (talk) 21:00, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: Wikisource edit

I saw your post on RS/N and I prefer the former rather than the latter example of linking to the ref. However, I have another concern. How do I get a Wikisource template to link directly to an article? Please look at I Sing the Body Electric (Whitman). I want the Wikisource template to link directly to Leaves_of_Grass/Book_IV#I_Sing_the_Body_Electric, but 1) I can't do it, and 2) there isn't any helpful documentation that tells me how to do it. Viriditas (talk) 01:26, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for getting back to me. Do you mind if I ask why you prefer linking to the mainspace, as opposed to the scan page? Regarding the link to Wikisource, it is linking directly to "Sing the Body Electric" :) I'm using Chrome - Theornamentalist (talk) 01:53, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
You're right, it's a browser issue. Works fine with most browsers except Firefox. Any idea why this is and if there is a fix for it? Good catch! As for your question, I don't really want to reinvent the wheel in regards to s:Scriptorium#Link_from_Page:, but I agree with other editors that most users want to see the text source, not the scan. I realize you disagree, but since we already have the source tab, I don't see the problem. Viriditas (talk) 06:40, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
You weren't supposed to see that, or which opinion I held! I made this template (seen in the reference section here), which I believe is a happy medium. What are your thoughts on it? - Theornamentalist (talk) 19:31, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to apologize for my edit to List of people from Union City, New Jersey, which I made without paying attention to further edits to the article, especially yours. Thank you for catching and correcting my mistake, which is much appreciated. Alansohn (talk) 03:06, 27 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Shinese for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Shinese is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bagle hound until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Graham87 05:53, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: Shinese edit

Although all statements are referenced, many of them seem to be referenced to books specific to Shih Tzus or Pekingese, which probably don't mention the "Shinese" specifically (let me know if this is incorrect). You're right that there are a few pages that mention them (Dogster, Dog Breed Info Center) but I'm not sure I'd personally consider any of those reliable sources, after having used both for information quite some time ago.

I did probably jump too quickly to put that one in the list, though, since it seems to be the most substantiated, and I can put it up separately if you want. — anndelion  18:58, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've split it off and put it here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shinese (2nd nomination) — anndelion  19:58, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Video Game Critic "Controversy" Section edit

I have edited the "Controversy" section as you requested. It is very middle-of-the-road and informative. It is also cited very well. Please check the citations. Thank you! Kajicat (talk) 20:49, 14 April 2011 (UTC)KajicatReply

Actually, all of those examples you gave over on my Talk could be used in The Video Game Critic's Wikipedia article, under a "Personal Life" section. You could say David Mrozek lives in blah blah blah with his wife and two kids, blah blah blah (sourced). His favorite video game soundtrack is Cruis'n USA, and his favorite ice cream flavor is Chunky Monkey, which he eats during every video game review session (sourced). He also has issues with homosexuality, which can be found in many of his reviews (sourced). So, if I make a "Personal Life" section...will you let me include the links to the many, many (I have many more that I'm not even using yet) game reviews in which he goes out of his way to say something about how "gay" a character looks or acts? - Kajicat (talk) 19:27, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate your concern, but I can assure you my edit of the Yale page was a good faith effort to reflect the way in which it is seen in contemporary society. Yale sucks. Nice pic, dude! I didn't know there was a parade today. You weren't by any chance at the 9/11 service at Liberty Plaza this evening, were you? I didn't see you there. Nightscream (talk) 00:27, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. The parade was small, and from what I could tell, was only uptown. I wasn't sure what it was for, but all flags were Cuban, they had a 9/11 pins, and there was roughly 100 Cuban Catholics with a float. After they were on Bergenline, they turned around onto New York Ave and marched.
I didn't even know about the service. You gotta keep me up on civic and town activities! Ha - Theornamentalist (talk) 00:59, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Frameless table edit

Hiya. I have looked at some of the code and have begun mulling what might be needed but am a little distracted. I will attend to it as soon as I get some focus. If in the meantime (shouldn't be long) you get impatient and want to ask someone else to step in, I won't feel usurped or insulted etc. (life's too short for all that nonsense). fg 07:11, 18 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Just letting you know (again) that I haven't forgotten about this. I'm a bit of a Flibbertigibbet and hop from project to project with little direction. I will get back to it though and am not archiving your request so I am reminded of it every time I visit my talk page. fredgandt 12:59, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

National Archives ExtravaSCANza edit

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! 1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited.
