License tagging for Image:Waterspout6.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Waterspout6.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:07, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

York university article

edit

Hi Theonlysilentbob, I'm not sure where to put messages, so I'm going to put it here for now. I noticed you are the main person uploading pics for the YorkU wikipedia page. Just wanted to say that we need a better pic of Vari Hall (even if its tentative) because the current one is very low quality and makes the article look bad. Vari Hall is probably one of the nicer (if not nicest) buildings on the campus.

Licensing for Lake effect blizzard.jpg and DSC04049.JPG

edit

What license (if any) were these images released under? The website you list as a source only has a copyright notice; have you been in contact with the author? Lake effect blizzard has already been deleted as it was tagged as saying that only wikipedia may use the image (which is not acceptable) —Random832 21:33, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, the problem at the time was that there was no indication that you had anything to do with the website you got it from, so it looked no different from hundreds of other cases of people uploading images they had no rights to. I'm sorry for the confusion (and the fact that it took as long as it did for you to get back to me means it would have been deleted in the meantime anyway; you can re-upload it or I can undelete it now anyway) —Random832 13:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The information in the picture should be correct, the image is just a snapshot of a computer screen using a cellphone camera. If you'd like to do that, that'd be nice, it would be better than the possible illegal version anyway. Argyleist (talk) 17:37, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Blowing snow.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Blowing snow.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:42, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on [[Talk:Image:King radar1.jpg]].

The author information says that Image:3 point lighting.svg was generated from an image you created. If true, I wonder if you might enhance the artwork by adding a camera to the illustration? It would make this image very useful. Thanks for your consideration. 06:27, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi,

You have participate to the article called Winter waterspout. Althought they are very rare, exept for the season they physically are produce the same way as any waterspout : strong low level instability and weak wind shear. So I have proposed to merge that article into a section a section of waterspout. Could you comment at Talk:Waterspout.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Collins gem thesaurus dec07.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Collins gem thesaurus dec07.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:20, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Waterspout6.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Waterspout6.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:52, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Waterspout6.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Waterspout6.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:52, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:Red plastic bag Stedson Wiltshire portrait.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 04:15, 21 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of File:FT 60.jpg

edit

The file File:FT 60.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

orphaned image, no information on an encyclopedic use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Massey equipment rental woodbridge 1870.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Massey equipment rental woodbridge 1870.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. plicit 02:16, 21 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
