  Guideline and policy news

  • The ability to create articles directly in mainspace is now indefinitely restricted to autoconfirmed users.
  • A proposal is being discussed which would create a new "event coordinator" right that would allow users to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit.

  Technical news

  • AbuseFilter has received numerous improvements, including an OOUI overhaul, syntax highlighting, ability to search existing filters, and a few new functions. In particular, the search feature can be used to ensure there aren't existing filters for what you need, and the new equals_to_any function can be used when checking multiple namespaces. One major upcoming change is the ability to see which filters are the slowest. This information is currently only available to those with access to Logstash.
  • When blocking anonymous users, a cookie will be applied that reloads the block if the user changes their IP. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. This currently only occurs when hard-blocking accounts.
  • The block notice shown on mobile will soon be more informative and point users to a help page on how to request an unblock, just as it currently does on desktop.
  • There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

A message from Pinksockswp

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Calvani Can you explain why this image has been removed and an older image used instead? I have stated I am the copyright owner of the new image so I am unsure why this has been replaced. Pinksockswp (talk) 15:49, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Edit suggestion for User:Theinstantmatrix/up.css

On page User:Theinstantmatrix/up.css, there are 4 self-closed tags of <div />

<div style="width:calc((100% - 350px)/2); float:left;height:4px; background-color:#990000;"/>
<div style="width:calc((100% - 350px)/2); float:left;height:4px; background:#339966;"/>
<div style="width:350px; float:left;height:4px; background:#A7D7F9;"/>
<div style="width:calc((100% - 350px)/2); float:left;height:4px; background-color:#990000;"/>

A self-closed <div /> is an error and has no effect. I suggest you make the wikitext markup consistent with what you are trying to do, without using self-closed <div /> tags. —Anomalocaris (talk) 01:39, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

It's fixed now. Thanks! theinstantmatrix (talk) 02:16, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

DashDog01, LearnLurker again?

A new editor, User:Nutt-Shut has shown up in TeaHouse with similar patterns to past sockpuppets DashDog01 and LearnLurker, meaning skills in and focus on creating a User page over any edits to articles, and asking 'poor English' questions at TeaHouse. Will you look at it? David notMD (talk) 09:46, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Yes, I've already reported him: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MaysonMage009. Just gotta wait for any admin/CheckUser... theinstantmatrix (talk) 10:00, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@David notMD: He's confirmed by CU and blocked now + Ghost-Tale; both are awaiting global locks Now globally locked. Thanks for informing me anyway. theinstantmatrix (talk) 12:16, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Scottish Rectors

In the Deeside area of Scotland high level school rectors are often given the title rectum as a honour. Therefore I believe that "The Rector is Judith Wight" should be changed to "The Rectum is Judith Wight". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hank McCann (talkcontribs) 21:22, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
