Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button   or   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 04:16, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Some (probably good faith) user keeping reverting edits

edit

Some edits and reverts happened on Passive optical network and appears that it might start an edit war. The side reverting edits is an anonymous IP and doesn't reply in the talk page. The edit summary clearly shows good faith, but the reverts don't look right. Also note that this problem is posted on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computing.

I think this is neither an edit war nor vandalism nor a correct behavior, so I don't know how to deal with it.--Theme (talk) 15:21, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting us know. I'm looking into it. :-) KrakatoaKatie 19:11, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Reporting article needs attention from an expert

edit

I want to report to somewhere that I've put a "needs attention from an expert" on Van Emde Boas tree a long time ago, but I don't know where to report it. Please report it and provide me a link to where it is reported so I can report it myself the next time something similar happens. Theme (talk) 14:13, 21 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

It is reported at , and putting the tag on does this automatically. You are best not to try doing it manually - these things can sometimes be tricky. Getting someone to actually deal with it is another matter. Sooner or later someone will deal with it, but there's no way I know of accelerating the process. I'm leaving your helpme up in case someone who knows more than I do comes along. Peridon (talk) 16:20, 21 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
The place where the article is listed is Category:Computer science articles needing expert attention; that's automatic due to the maintenance tag. You may want to also raise the issue at a relevant WikiProject such as WT:WikiProject Computer science if you haven't already done so. Huon (talk) 21:47, 21 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Claim of unhelpful edit

edit

Forgive the possibly strange formatting, This is the first time I've attempted to send a message to another WP user.

"In the Gravity drag page, you added Citation needed after "For instance, the way to maximize acceleration is to thrust straight downward; however, thrusting downward is clearly not a viable course of action for a rocket intending to reach orbit." which is obvious. See: Wikipedia:You do need to cite that the sky is blue (but see also Wikipedia:You do need to cite that the sky is blue, which makes stuff a little bit complex). I understand that you are trying to improve wikipedia, but all rules have exceptions. You are still invited to edit wikipedia, as long as you don't make the same mistake again. :)" everything on Wikipedia:You do need to cite that the sky is blue (which you linked to twice) seems to indicate that I was not wrong to suggest a citation be added to the above statement. I understand why thrusting back towards the planet is not a viable method of return but its not particularly intuitive, as are so many things in orbital mechanics. I only just realized that the request for a citation was associated with text on rocket launch, not deorbit. I must have added the statement in an attempt to be funny. My apologies.

Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 184.22.91.178. I don't think I've ever used a VPN to edit a wikipedia page. Theemathas (talk) 12:00, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

That IP address belongs to VPNGate. Yamla (talk) 12:03, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Unblock request (2nd try)

Request reason:

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is 184.22.91.178. I have already requested an unblock, but it has been declined with the reason "That IP address belongs to VPNGate." However, this IP address does not belong to VPNGate.
As evidence for this, my IP is not listed in the table at https://www.vpngate.net/en/. Additionally, putting my IP address into https://lookup.icann.org/en/lookup tells me that my IP belongs to an organization unrelated to VPNGate.
May I know why you think my IP address belongs to VPNGate? Perhaps it used to belong to VPNGate and then now got transferred to be mine somehow. Theemathas (talk) 15:40, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Well, it comes back as under OpenVPN. You can edit from an IP off that range, but for the best long term solution you can follow the instructions at WP:IPECPROXY to request IP block exemption through email. — Daniel Case (talk) 06:35, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
