Thanks

If you're willing to coach me, I'd love to have you. I probably won't be on much until the day after Christmas though. Merry Christmas from Sasha 13:17, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Coaching

My RfA is Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/F9T so you can close it if you want. In fact, do. F9T 17:14, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

It was never opened, because you declined. The page will be repurposed when you are nominated again. Don't worry about it. Thank you for answering my question. The Transhumanist (talk) 21:25, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Shop

Hi, I'm setting up a shop called ChampionMart. We're currently looking for an assistant page designer. I was hoping you'd be interested. Thanks, --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 16:46, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S. We also need a page redesign. Thanks. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 16:48, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

How will this differ from Wikipedia:Reward board, Wikipedia:Bounty board, Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance), and the various Wikipedia:Requests pages? Just curious. The Transhumanist 18:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's actually an all-in-one. Not only do we do userpages, we also do free images, userscripts, userboxes, signatures, barnstars, and templates as well. We may expand. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 17:58, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'll pass. But good luck. The Transhumanist 21:19, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wish list

Thanks for the heads up on your wish list. So far I have created a section for the remineralization of teeth under remineralisation and redirected the remineralization of teeth page to remineralization. More work on the wish list to come. --Sharkface217 22:21, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nice start on the section. I can't wait to see your final results. To be really impressive (useful), it needs to cover remineralization as a strategy, and cover what works, and how well, what types of dental caries can be cured, and which cannot. Various types of calcium, and phosphorous, are known to be able to remineralize small tooth caries. But what constitutes "small" in this context? The Transhumanist 00:09, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lord of Darkness

Thank you for your support in helping me defend the prestigious Lord of Darkness article from deletion. The idiots have subsequently deleted the article and the term Lord of Darkness as you will observe has been redirected to Devil, sadly. Thank you for everything all the same. Merry Christmas. --Illustrious One (talk) 21:35, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

We need to talk about your attitude. I don't appreciate the way you treated others at that AfD, nor the way you referred to them just now.   I believe you owe each person involved an apology. We're trying to build an encyclopedia together, and when someone mistreats another here, it detracts from that effort and reflects badly on the whole project. This is supposed to be fun. People don't come here to be miserable. So please be nice. It's one of our main rules. See WP:CIVIL. And you should WP:AGF that others are only doing what they believe is best for the encyclopedia. They don't harbor any ill will toward you or the subject of the article you wrote. They are volunteering their valuable time here, and they deserve your respect.
You overreacted.   Deletion is no big deal, because the article is not really deleted. It's simply not being displayed anymore, because it is not up to the community's standards. It needs more real-world context, and it needs sources. All you have to do is politely ask the admin who closed the deletion debate to userfy the article. If you don't call him names, he'll be happy to copy it to your userspace (make it a subpage of your userpage) so that you can work on it. Once you have fixed the article, you can submit it to Wikipedia:Deletion review.
But first, you should post a message of apology to each of the participants in that AfD. No one deserved the way you treated them there.
Please contact me before you submit it to deletion review - the more feedback you get the greater your chances of success will be. And the next time you are in an AfD, you should consider asking the others for more time to add the sources. If you are actively working on the article to fix it, they have the option of leaving the article in place so that you and others can fix it.
If you need help developing the article and finding sources for it, there are several places you can ask for assistance. See WP:REQUESTS.
Good luck. And please...
Be nice.

The Transhumanist 23:48, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Of course. Thank you. I felt personally offended because the article was the fruit of my labour and in my opinion it didn't deserve to be deleted and I thought the people in the debate were rather missing the point so I sort of lashed out. I shall apologise to each of them in turn and follow your instructions. Thank you once again and a Merry Christmas. I can't believe I'm editing Wikipedia on Christmas Day. No matter, I'm going to a party later. My accursed little brother's hogging the television you know. But I digress. --Illustrious One (talk) 11:13, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. I don't know if I can spend as much time as you would like working on it, because I am pretty busy with Tropical cyclones. If that is ok, than sure! Juliancolton (talk) 16:53, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
No worries, I'm flexible, and there's no hurry. There are plenty of toys to play with, without the need to become an admin. And we can make the articles you edit the primary focus of your coaching, to begin with. The Transhumanist 16:59, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's great, thanks! But, I do know some users that will strongly oppose my RFA when I get to it. Is this a problem? Juliancolton (talk) 18:11, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
It can be. It sure was in my case. The choices are to either ride it out and overcome it over time, or exercise your right to vanish (and start over). I have a strong presence in a couple very narrow niches (with one major contributor, me), so starting over with a clean slate wouldn't have done me any good, because I'd stick out like a sore thumb regardless. Plus I'm rather attached to my current username, and there are several departments I'm responsible for. If you stay with your current identity, you may overcome objections by addressing them and by approaching your objectors. If there's bad blood between you and anyone on Wikipedia, you shouldn't let that simmer. Instead you should try your best to make amends, which is the right thing to do in most cases anyhow. Apologizing is a good start, and is the civil thing to do. Then include them in the process of your preparation for adminship, and ask them what you need to improve before you will be qualified for the mop. And then, the hardest part, take their feedback to heart and work on the problems they point out. Yes, you will have to swallow your pride, and yes you may have to deal with rejection, but it's the right thing to do. If their advice seems unreasonable, you'll need to think it through carefully and perhaps ask them for further clarification and/or you may need to get feedback from others.
I hate this part of coaching.   Because after passing on wisdom like that, I feel compelled to follow my own advice.   If I didn't, I'd be nothing but a hypocrite.   The Transhumanist 18:48, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Impressive. You and I sit down in front of the computer a lot, don't we? Keep in mind that I did little else for a whole year. The effects of this sedentary lifestyle crept up on me. My legs and arms atrophied, and I couldn't even do 5 push-ups in a row. Walking became painful, and I couldn't run at all - so like an idiot, I went out and walked 8 miles, and was in pain for days. It has taken me about 8 months to get back into shape. Now I can run 3 miles non-stop without much discomfort, and I walk or run 8 to 10 miles per day. I'm just telling you this so that you can beware of the adverse side-effects of Wikipedia addiction. They can sneak up on you. It is easy to get so interested in Wikipedia that you neglect physical exercise. It happened to me. Just be careful that it doesn't happen to you. The Transhumanist 17:07, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ah. That's the times that I could be online, doesn't mean I'm on all the time between those times. Anyway, I guess you want me to answer these questions? Cheers, Davnel03Sign It, Junior! 19:22, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Behaviorism

You simply list behaviorism in your -isms but there is a fairly substantial difference in methodological behaviorism - which requires truth by agreement and so rejects inner experience - and radical behaviorism which does not. Radical behaviorism is Skinner's behaviorism and it is the one that has been, I think, more influential. --Michaelrayw2 (talk) 11:23, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your message

Hmmm... not sure. There's been an awful lot of what looks like botwork on his account. If it's not a bot, it's still artificially inflating the editcounts, making this candidate very inexperienced from an editcountitis perspective.

My suggestion is that you invite him/her to contribute to a bunch of XfD debates, ensuring they're the first respondent and continuing to contribute to some of the more difficult debates, as well as some PRs and FACs. That'll help demonstrate understanding of policy and what Wikipedia is really all about, regardless of any editcount.

Theoretically, (yes, bear with me) a candidate with 0 mainspace edits could pass RfA if they could only persuade those not fixated on counts that they understand the issues. It seems this person's just about ready, but you want them to show it.

Incidentally, I see they're thinking of getting an article to FA. That'd do nicely. (with the XfDs) --Dweller (talk) 12:41, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm. Looks tricky. I'd get him to make his sig look more serious for starters. Seriously. Delving now... he's not really replied on the conflicts issue. I'd push him for a detailed explanation of the last conflict he was in. It matters not a jot who "won" - the fact the other user was eventually blocked is irrelevant. Admins deal with abusive trolling all the time. The point is to remain above it when provoked. I'd want to know the full ins and outs of the most recent editing he's ashamed of and remind him that anyone running for RfA serially will have all their skeletons pulled out of the cupboard. No RfA run for at least three or four months from any behaviour remotely dodgy - preferably six months.

Get him contributing in heated debates. XfD is good. FAC is good too. Both for demonstrating grasp of policy, but also remaining calm when the other side are aggressive/defensive. When I say "contributing", I don't mean drive-by comments, but hanging in there and arguing his case... appropriately. Listening to the other side and responding.

As he's told us he's young on his very fancy userpage he'll gain opposes, both upfront and concealed for both of those things, as well as that awful sig. (sorry, but I merely tell it as I see it)

The userboxes... well, there's one there that should jump out at you in particular, TT!

The header on his talk page made my heart sink. It's bloody rude. This guy is simply not ready for adminship. Some teenagers are brilliant candidates... this one needs to do a lot of maturing first. I wouldn't support him at RfA for at least 6 months - longer if he didn't change all of the above (and probably more that I didn't find in the ooh 5 seconds I spent looking). Sorry. :-(

Cheers --Dweller (talk) 12:34, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I thought he was being sarcastic on his header. I guess many people won't take it that way. You've raised valid points about how critical the participants at RfA can be. I'm sure he'll find your observations and advice useful. The Transhumanist 16:05, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Huge numbers of questions on RfAs

I've started a thread at WT:RFA regarding the issue of folks posting many, many questions on RfAs and the expectation that the candidate should thoroughly answer all questions (and there is that expectation, despite the 'Optional' tag). I particularly noted your addition of 15 questions to the Ibranof RfA. Avruchtalk 17:51, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just don't do that Transhumanist. RfAs are hard enough without a million questions to nitpick reasons to oppose from. Prodego talk 23:56, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it helped in this case. Ten one-line answers didn't seem to put him out, and I feel I understand him a whole lot better now. If others return to the RfA, there's enough there to base a decision on, I think. The Transhumanist 00:08, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of List of basic American Civil War topics

A tag has been placed on List of basic American Civil War topics requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I did another 9 edits (I did an 11 edits last time, so I guess I'm carrying that one over). It looks pretty finished, btw. --Sharkface217 02:54, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Future plans

First off, I'd like to say that it was an honor as well as a privilege to complete the glossary. It was also quite fun and enlightening. I thank you for all the barnstars, and I while really don't feel that my work merits the Star of Sophia, I'm not complaining that you nominated me. :-P

I was wondering if we could continue work on the glossary in order to get it to a Featured List. It's pretty close in its current state, just needs some stuff cleaned up and copyedited.

I also think that the Awards Center could really be expanded to a broader Wikipedia audience. Not to brag, but it seems to have become a lot more active in the past few months since I have started regularly posting challenges. I think we could definitely get many more articles to FA or GA status with many dedicated Wikipedians regularly checking the Awards Center and posting as well as completing pages. I would never have learned of the Glossary page without it, and I view the Awards Center to be a sort of gift: while it is true that I posted many challenges, I also regularly endeavor to take on challenges posted by others. I believe that Wikipedia could greatly benefit if there are dozens of editors who regularly check the awards center for both posting challenges and completing them.

I was thinking that the Awards Center could really do with a regular newsletter (say, fortnightly?) which has a list of new challenges as well as completed projects and barnstars awarded. I don't know if this will work, just throwing the idea out there.

Thanks again for all barnstars/Wiki-help. It's been fun. --Sharkface217 19:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, I added a few dozen more challenges to the Awards Center. This should keep everyone busy for a while. --Sharkface217 21:26, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
You don't have the Star of Sophia yet.  :) It may take you two more big philosophy projects, or even two more years, to get two more noms. I've provided the first notch. The rest is up to you. Good luck.
With respect to the glossary, you are a mind reader. The main thing the glossary needs to pass WP:FLC is references. Without sources, the glossary will not pass FLC. In order to spread out the sourcing as much as possible, I've begun placing citation tags on the articles corresponding to the entries, and placing fact tags in the lead sections of those articles that don't yet have references. There are about 380 entries in the glossary, and I've tagged about 80 so far (AWB is standing by in an adjacent window). Once the article leads are sourced, the references can be gathered and placed into the glossary. Guess what's going on my wish list?  :) The Transhumanist 02:34, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The newsletter is a good idea. Thank you for pushing the idea past my threshold of acceptance. We could have a sub-page for recipients. A section in the newsletter for uncompleted tasks would be nice.

The Transhumanist 02:34, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'll get to work on getting the Glossary to a featured list right away. As for a newsletter, I think that an automated bot would be best. Btw, I will be WikiOgre or sorts for the next few weeks due to real life concerns. Just a heads up. --Sharkface217 04:42, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Award Center

Would you be interested in moving the award center to Wikipedia:Award Center? I am trying to improve WikiProject Awards, and feel this can help. // F9T 20:44, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just link to it. It's completely informal and unofficial, and awarding takes place entirely on userpages, and so userspace is the most logical place for it. Pages like this should be hosted. Moving it to project space (the Wikipedia namespace) would be risky, and way too formal (it would invite rule-making committees, standardization, edit wars, deletion, etc., and could get ugly). Besides, others will eventually create their own, so you could link to them too. Userspace is most appropriate, because users can relax and be themselves. (See Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:LaraLove/Bathrobe Cabal). The Transhumanist 21:55, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. Thank-you for your time. // F9T 09:05, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Virtual Classroom

Hello Transhumanist! I was wondering if there's anything I can do to help in the Virtual Classroom. Thanks! Keilanatalk(recall) 20:55, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes!
See the VC Lessons info box (posted near the top of the page above). It includes links to the coaching pages of the current students. Please look over as many of their contributions as you can find time to do so, and post your advice on how each of them can improve their performance as editors. Try to keep it in theme with any plans provided on their pages so far (some are being assigned editing tasks, others have progress to administrative tasks, for example).
LaraLove is working on a new lesson called User:The Transhumanist/Virtual classroom/LaraLove, on Good Article development (and mentioned she will try to complete it this week). We need proofreaders/copy-editors to go over it and polish it.
To monitor for new edits and vandalism, etc., please watchlist the Virtual Classroom and all of its subpages. (I'd appreciate it if you'd watchlist the User Page Design Center as well).
Thank you for offering to help. I look forward to working with you.

Fractional-reserve banking

Thank you for that. It makes sense though there's a good chance it will be challenged. I suspect you saw my post on Wikipedia:Help desk. Zenwhat (talk) 03:30, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I thought you seemed familiar. You're the one who wrote those extensive FAQs on how to make user pages. You've been very helpful. BTW, you can thank me for removing some vandalism of one of your pages (several paragraphs of nonsense about WWE) that had been there for weeks. I don't have the specific diffs. You'll just have to take my word for it. You deserve a barnstar for your efforts. I can't think of anyone who has contributed more to Wikipedia, except maybe Jimbo. I'm not sure where to put this on your frontpage, so here it is:
  What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar
For boldly redirecting Debt-based monetary system to Criticisms of fractional-reserve banking, both saving it from deletion while defending Wikipedia from those who would violate WP:FRINGE, and being one of the most helpful editors on Wikipedia, in general. Thank you for watchdogging my pages, and I'm glad I could be of help. The Transhumanist 03:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Heeeeeelp with WP:FRINGE and possible arbitration.

On Debt-based monetary system, which is a POV fork of fractional-reserve banking, me, EGeek, and Gregalton have tried to improve the article by at least removing stuff that violates WP:FRINGE. There is consensus that it needs to be improved. However, whenever any changes are made, Libertarians who seem to be supporters of these fringe theories revert any edits to the page which remove such material, and appeal to WP:CONSENSUS. This isn't direct vandalism -- just wikilawyering that takes advantage of the slowness and tediousness of Wikipedian bureaucracy in order to keep nonsense up. And they don't put forth any genuine arguments for why they're making such reverts other than a vague appeal to consensus. I've noted this repeatedly on the talk page.

I already posted this on Wikipedia:Fringe_theories/Noticeboard a few days ago, in hopes it would bring outsiders to edit the page. That has not helped reached consensus and the topic has been listed for RFC in the distant past. On monetary theory articles, in general, I seem to be going around in circles, because the article on fractional-reserve banking looked good enough to be featured a while back, but now, adherents of the New World Order (conspiracy theory) and Austrian economics have put all of their silly little fringe theories back in.

I would like to either engage the users making the reverts or seek arbitration. However, the users' seem disinterested in discussing their reverts (so mediation is out of the question.). But on the other hand, given the current state of ArbCom, ArbCom will likely reject my request because they seem to want people to assume good faith even where it's clearly absurd and mediation hasn't been tried. Per WP:IAR, I'd like to just say, "To hell with these trolls," and boldly remove all of the nonsense, but then I will probably be blocked for violating 3RR since WP:IAR doesn't seem to ever be a legitimate defense on Wikipedia.

I saw this recently which made me highly skeptical of ArbCom's current ability to address WP:FRINGE violations, since admins who proactively go after such trolls cause great controversy, risking their administrative privileges from being taken away.

So, please, somebody tell me: What can I do to fix that article without having my edits reverted with the summary "omg no consensus" with no corresponding comment on the talk page, and without getting blocked for edit-warring? Zenwhat (talk) 02:20, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

In the long run, you can't escape community consensus. If the greater community wants something a certain way, it will eventually be that way. But a localized consensus may not match the community's desires. So if an editor or group of editors are maintaining an article to non-Wikipedia standards, then what you need to do is seek wider input. Keep in mind that common practice (that is, the defacto standard) doesn't always match policy, which means policy in such an area hasn't caught up to common practice yet. At the core of this approach is WP:IAR - the community isn't straight-jacketed by its own rules. To seek wider input, post requests for editors to come and participate on the article. In addition to occasionally asking for help here at the help desk, also try WP:CBB, WP:RFF, WP:AN, WP:RFE, WP:VPA, and WP:RFC (for articles). If you really want the community to apply the magnifying glass to the article, prepare it for featured article status. Post it at WP:GAN or WP:PR, and once it gets through peer review, nominate it at WP:FAC.
Keep a log of the perp's violations, for use in an RfC on him if it ever comes to that. You can also use that as evidence to request that the article be protected, but that step usually follows an RfC. Keep suggesting mediation, because you are open to consensus-building discussion.
To solve the merge-issue, I stepped-in and boldly renamed the page so it is more closely associated with the article it expands upon.
I hope I've been of help. If you need further assistance, continue to post requests everywhere you can think of (check WP:DIR for all the relevant departments you can find), and on my talk page.
The Transhumanist 03:45, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I disagree that consensus is necessarily inevitable. It seems to me that overall M:Wikithoritarianism is less influential than M:Wikidemocratism because Wikipedia is a "friendly community with wildly inaccurate articles, because of wikilawyering" not "a rude community, made up of academic elitists who don't follow any particular rules." Hence the reason for WP:Expert rebellion. This is reflected in various ArbCom decisions, some of which have caused very good editors to leave Wikipedia, and is also supported by Wikipedia:Harmonious editing club. Part of the problem may stem from the fact that "Wikithoritarianism" is labeled by that name. I plan to write an essay on "Wikindividualism vs. Wikollectivism" soon to go more in detail. Wikipedia will only be accurate if individual editors (like you) continually and courageously engage poor editors and bad faith editors, while adhering to Wikipedia policy. It is a mistake to personify "consensus" as a conscious individual entity that will somehow always automatically get it right in the end. Zenwhat (talk) 03:53, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Not necessarily, but generally it is, IMHO. True, there will always be exceptions. And I agree with you that it is a constant battle. A war of quality assurance. Fortunately, we have thousands of volunteers who focus primarily on watchdogging and patrolling Wikipedia for problems to fix. If you help make them aware of what to look for, you may have an army on your side. Good luck. In the meantime, the best articles generally have dedicated maintainers, sort of like the custodians of literature in Fahrenheit 451, except we're preventing "article burning" instead of book burning. Keep the faith. The Transhumanist 04:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 04:43, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Making a To Do List

I'd like to make an automated to do list. Are there already any good scripts out there I can use?

Zenwhat (talk) 21:43, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

What will be on it (exactly)? And you want it automated in what way? The Transhumanist 21:48, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
My talk page. The idea is to edit Wikipedia algorithmically. It would work like this:
  1. You create a task.
  2. You list its hierarchical importance (perhaps by a "number" or flags like "vital" or "minor")
  3. When a task is completed (either accomplished or failed), it's crossed off, given a check or an X, and the reason why is stated.
This seems more logical than having to try to remember what you're doing, on a whole bunch of articles, all at once (that is, if you don't narrowly focus on a few articles). I've been doing this all manually on my user page with a manual to-do list. Take a look to see what I mean.
Just now, I thought about creating a "check" and "x" template to make it quicker to update my to do list. Then I thought: Why not have the entire thing just be one big template, where there is a {{task}} template (one {{task}} for each task) and the whole thing is wrapped in another template which is a script that sorts tasks by importance, date listed, whether they've been accomplished, etc.. Zenwhat (talk) 21:57, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not aware of any scripts for this. You can make tables that automatically sort; see M:Help:Sorting. You can also use AWB to process a task list, where the "tasks" are pages you want to edit. Create a page with links to all the pages you want to work on, then make a list in AWB from the links on that page. AWB will automatically load the next page on the list when you are done with the previous one. I hope this helps. The Transhumanist 22:06, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Transhumanist, I'm no expert with programming, but I'm a bad enough amateur that I think I could definitely do this myself. When and if I finish it, I'll let you know, since I think a lot of people would find such an idea useful. I somewhat assumed it would've already been done, though.
Also, thanks for the barnstar! Finally, I get one! However, I don't completely deserve it because your articles helped me a lot and my layout is mostly just a modified version from User:ArielGold.
I do intend to keep working at it, though, until it's even nicer than hers.   Zenwhat (talk) 22:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Advice?

Hi, I've been fighting for a couple days with my signature and yours is the only one that is close to what I'm trying to do. Mine is supposed to look like this: DesertAngel but it keeps telling me "invalid html code". Could you give me any suggestions as to how you got yours to work right? Thank you so much :) DesertAngel (talk) 22:41, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

There's a bug in the autosignature feature. Therefore, to get the sig I want, I use a macro. There's a free one called AutoHotkey that's supposed to be excellent (though I haven't used that one yet). When I'm at the library and have no access to macros, I cut and paste the code for my sig from my talk page. The Transhumanist 23:22, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
By the way, if you switch the colors of the words in your sig, "Desert" will be colored with the "hot" colors, for a little stylistic touch. Just an idea. Currently, "Angel" is colored with devilish tones. The Transhumanist 23:25, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Heh, good idea. I will give the macro a try. thank you very much for your help :) DesertAngel (talk) 23:28, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
There we go. Thanks again. DesertAngel 00:04, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar proposal

I made a barnstar proposal I think you would probably agree is a good idea. I could make it, but I'm no artist. Zenwhat (talk) 22:41, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's easy if you have the right program. See The Gimp. The Transhumanist 23:32, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Without a program, I repurposed one (copied and reworded it) as a customized award for Sharkface for the very thing you suggested in your proposal. See his award page. The Transhumanist 23:38, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
You can also copy a barnstar and use it for a new award. I did that to create the What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar, which is ironic, because since then, I've received it 3 times, including from you! The Transhumanist 23:42, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
