Happy editing! - Adolphus79 (talk) 01:54, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your warm Adolphus!
I'm brand new to the Wikipedia community (although I have used Wikipedia my whole life) and am looking forward to become a part of the community.
I have some plans of uploading some articles soon. I've gone ahead and made a bunch of edits on other articles and need to wait a few more days for my account to be confirmed and then I'll be able to upload some images to complete my articles! That's good to hear, I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to leave a message here or on my talk page if you ever need help with anything. Happy editing! - Adolphus79 (talk) 02:01, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Jet Tern Marine edit

This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". June 2023 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:40, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Deleted article draft edit

While I was writing this message Justlettersandnumbers blocked your account from editing. I would have written part of the message differently if you had already been blocked, but I am posting it as it is rather than rewriting it.JBW (talk) 09:45, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have read your message on my talk page. Normally I respond to a message in the place where it was posted, to prevent conversations from becoming fragmented and confusing; so, for example, a message on my talk page I answer on my talk page. This time, however, I think it may be helpful to have the information available on your talk page for future reference, so I am copying your message here, and replying to it below. JBW (talk) 09:45, 22 June 2023 (UTC) Hello fellow contributor. My article has been set to "Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Jet Tern Marine". I have read your comments as well as read up more on the Wiki Rules and now have a better understand of how to properly re-create this article without violating any of the rules. I just have one little question: is my article still accessible for editing? I would like to work from my original draft and make my edits directly there. If it is still accessible, could you help me to understand where? All the best LeoReply

  • First of all, when you post a message to any talk page or discussion page, put ~~~~ (four tildes) at the end of your message. That will be automatically converted to a signature, which will not only show who wrote the message, but also provide a link to your talk page, which may be helpful to other editors.
  • Your user name gives the impression that your account represents a business or organisation. Is that so? Also, are you working for the business you have written about, whether as an employee, a contractor, or in any other capacity? If you are, then Wikipedia policies and guidelines require you to say so, as described in the guideline on conflict of interest.
  • I have restored the draft in the state it was in before I deleted it, so that you can work on it to improve it, and resubmit it for review when you think it is ready. However, a substantial part of the conent of the article has been "revision deleted" by an administrator called Primefac, because of the copyright problems mentioned above. That simply means that all the revisions of the article containing the copyright infringing material are not accessible except to administrators. Wikipedia policy does not allow copyright infringing material to be restored to view. However, if you like I can email you the text of the draft as it was before the removal of the problematic material, on the understanding that it is for your own use, and must not be posted back to Wikipedia. If you want me to do that, let me know. If you post a message here, beginning with {{ping|JBW}} and ending with ~~~~ I will be automatically notified of the message. JBW (talk) 09:45, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@JBW: Hi JBW, thank you for all of this information. In the end, I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised that the Wikipedia community is so involved and determined to make this a platform with proper content.
To answer your question, the username I had indeed was my company, so I requested to change it to my usual personal online alias.
I have done some small works for Jet Tern Marine in the past but am writing this article out of personal pleasure. My motivation for this article was the fact that I recently spent a short holiday on a friend's yacht built by Jet Tern Marine. Following that trip I went on Wikipedia to see if I could find a history of Jet Tern Marine and I couldn't, so I searched all the blogs and websites that I could find to try and tell the story.
I understand now that if I want to make an article about Jet Tern Marine I need to focus more on their history rather than their line of products and advantages.
I think that because my editing privileges have been revoked I am unable to see the article I wrote. I would greatly appreciate it if you sent my draft to my by email so that I can go about re-writing everything.

You should be able to see the draft at Draft:Jet Tern Marine.
Given what you say about your previous business or employment relationship with this company, you almost certainly have a conflict of interest (COI), and should IMO disclose it before editing further. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:02, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@DoubleGrazing Fair enough, it makes sense. In this case I'll do a bit more reading on how to disclose this information properly and will wait for everything to be in order before editing again. Thanks for helping me understand the process, it's not easy to understand everything all at once as a brand new user.

Account renamed and unblocked edit

I have unblocked your account, since the only reason for the block was the username, which has been changed from "The Studio Vientiane" to "NotaLeo". JBW (talk) 09:11, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ping edit

You seem to have misunderstood the information about how to use the automatic system for notification of messages, commonly referred to as "pinging" an editor. You don't post <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> into the wiki markup; you just post ~~~~, without the "nowiki" tags. That will be automatically converted to a signature. Provided you also include {{ping|username}} or [[User:username]] (or any of several other variants) in the same post, and also include at least one newline, the notification will happen.
