Request on 02:41:26, 27 November 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Theopticist

My post was rejected because I used copyrighted material. I got the copyrighted material from the movie's press kit (here: https://www.webelieveindinosaurs.net/contact) with the permission of the producer. What do you propose I do? Thanks! Opticist

Theopticist (talk) 02:41, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

@Theopticist: if you have permission from he copyright holder, you can follow these instructions: Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. However, the material you copied would not be suitable for a Wikipedia article, even if you cleared it. Articles must be written from a neutral point of view. You would need to re-write the synopsis and other text so that it didn't read like an advert. If you did that, it would no longer be a copyright violation. I would also advise you to read WP:COI, since it appears you are closely related to the subject you are writing about. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 02:52, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Many thanks for the explanation! I am only loosely connected to the producer, though I sometimes communicate with two of the subjects of the film. I do not think there is a conflict of interest. I will write my own copy and resubmit the post, taking pains to not make it look like an ad. I hope I did this reply right.

Filmography

Re:Araf Naveez, the contents of the filmography, as in many articles, is referenced within the references of the main body of the text so please do not remove filmographys blindly because they are not doubly referenced, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 20:07, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

@Atlantic306: fair point. Thanks, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 22:12, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Request on 21:54:36, 28 November 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Theopticist

I tried to send you a message by editing my sandbox entry, but I think it did not work; I am not used to the procedure here. At any rate:

Many thanks for the explanation! I am only loosely connected to the producer, though I sometimes communicate with two of the subjects of the film, and I have posted their essays on The Panda's Thumb. I think I have an interest but no conflict. The movie is timely and of some importance, and ought to be represented in Wikipedia. Unless you advise against it, I will write my own copy and resubmit the post, taking pains to not make it look like an ad. I will be sure to click the COI button and explain what I have just said.

Vennimala

You have to be patient for a few minutes. If I leave the article with no reference I can understand. You put it in the draft within the third minute, which is not a good practice. pl change now. --RajeshUnuppally 19:04, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

@RajeshUnuppally: unfortunately the article as it stands is not suitable. It contains editorial language that clearly violates WP:NPOV eg "Vennimala is a serene and beautiful place" and mythical stories that are presented as fact eg "It is believed that Lord Rama and Lakshman visited. Many sages at that time meditated in the caves of Venimala. At the behest of the sages, Lakshman killed a number of demons (asuras) who were threatening and harassing the sages". Feel free to continue to improve the article and submit it via the WP:AFC process that is outlined in the AFC notice on the page. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 19:13, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
I corrected, I don't know how to convert to a normal article; that you do it if possible.--RajeshUnuppally 19:55, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Beth Guide

I removed the Prod tag, because (1) its deletion is likely to be controversial unless we have a debate, and (2) there have been substantive edits since your tagging it. Pease bring it to WP:AfD if you still feel it should be deleted. Bearian (talk) 21:20, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

@Bearian: very reasonable, thanks for letting me know. I'll take another look and see if I want to take the latest version to AfD. Best, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 23:27, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Beth Guide

For Beth Guide hi there and happy thanksgiving. I see you marked this one for deletion. I just tried to find the articles online, but we do have hard copies of all the items from back in the day. Can I email those to you? Many of them predated the internet and are not on microfiche. Lastly, Ms. Guide works with fox 26 regularly and will be on tv Monday as well as has 50 other appearances, it's just that they take them down over time. Do you need the dates? the videos?. I are happy to provide whatever you need if you will let us know. Thanks. User:Genxer66 —Preceding undated comment added 19:15, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

@Genxer66: thanks for your reply above. You don't need to email me anything. You need to add proper references to the article, so that our readers can verify what is in the article. Sources do not have to be online to be vlid. If there is coverage of Beth Guide in articles that a reader could find in a library or other offline source, they can be used. Take a look at WP:CITE for more information about how to do that. I would also urge you to read Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Entertainers which are the Wikipedia rules for notability for entertainers (including TV personalities); If you think Ms. Guide meets those requirements, please add sources to the article that demonstrate that. Good luck, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 19:25, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

@The Mirror Cracked: Thank you for your reply. Im working on getting sources of this but i dont know how to hook up the ones that are not online. Do they need to be online? Do they just need a old fashion citation and link. I'm sorta new to all this so i'm sorry for the questions. I just thought because of all the stuff that has happend to Ms. Guide in the last 6 months she rose to that level werhe as she is really a community organizer and the list of things Ms. Guide is involved in continues to grow. She is now working with Congressman Dan Crenshaw and there will be more material out on that. She is on the ballot for the march primary as a party chair. I guess these are things that need to be added and I will add them. On the TV appearances, do they all need to be listed? Any help is appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Genxer66 (talkcontribs)

@Genxer66: as I mentioned above, sources do not need to be online. You can reference an offline newspaper article using the {{cite news}} template. If you go here you can see the documentation for using that template. Working with a congressman does not mean she is notable, per WP:BIO; please read that link as it has a detailed description of what notability means here. You don't need to list all her TV appearances; just appearing on TV isn't enough to make her notable. I linked to Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Entertainers above, please do read that, as it is the specific guideline you need to follow. Good luck, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 19:50, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for inviting me to be part of the conversation. I removed the prod tag because, at this point, there's enough in the stub to keep it. It still needs a lot of work, but it's on its way. My belief in the the notability of the subject is in no way an endorsement of her politics. Bearian (talk) 15:42, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

I have question.

WHY YOU GAVE ME SUBMISSION ON MY CREATE ARTICLE?????!!!??? Maca Dird AUTTP (talk) 02:19, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

From Opticist

Not sure whether this is the best way to contact @The Mirror Cracked, but here goes. This concerns my submission about the documentary film We Believe in Dinosaurs. I plan to submit a wholly revised version tomorrow morning, Dec 7, 2019, with approximately the following notation:

Thank you for reviewing my submission. As I explained, I did not plagiarize the work but rather obtained it with permission from the studio's press kit. (I used to teach technical writing, so I know a bit about plagiarizing.) The source you found probably got the material from the same place as I did. At any rate, my submission was criticized for looking too much like promotional material, so I have killed all the materials from the press kit and rewritten the submission entirely. I hope it is now satisfactory.

I have no conflict of interest, but I have occasionally been in contact with one of the producers, and they know I am preparing this document. They provided me with a link that amounts to a review copy of the movie.

I have also been in contact with two of the principals, David MacMillan and Dan Phelps, and I have occasionally posted their articles on my blog. I have also written articles concerning the Ark Encounter as it was being developed. Rather than give me a conflict of interest, I think preparing such articles has made me more knowledgeable and therefore entirely appropriate to write this entry. I want to stress that I am proposing a factual encyclopedia article, not a movie review; a movie review might indeed be inappropriate, and I will probably not review the movie on my own blog.

This film may be of some importance, and I highly recommend an entry in Wikipedia. It would be good to post an entry before the PBS program in February.

(Ref. 1 below gives the wrong link (?); the inline link in the text is correct.) Theopticist (talk) 22:34, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

@Theopticist: yes, this is the correct way to contact me. I suggest you go ahead and create the draft and submit it for review. Then I, or another reviewer will be able to evaluate it. I would suggest you read WP:NFILM as this is the set of criteria we use to judge whether a subject is notable enough to be covered by a Wikipedia article. If the movie doesn't come out until February, then it may not yet have the coverage in reliable sources required to be included. But I can't judge that until I have seen your draft. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 01:40, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
@The Mirror Cracked: Thanks again for the responses! The film will be on PBS in February, but it has been shown in around a dozen festivals and is streaming now on many platforms. It has a goodly number of external reviews and citations, and has won one award. I will finish my draft tomorrow morning and let you have a look.

Proposed deletion of The staff ate it later.

The article The staff ate it later. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced, dubious notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. New Page Review newsletter December 2019

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Kariera Nikodema Dyzmy (TV series)

Hi there, I wanted to discuss your acceptance of the draft Kariera Nikodema Dyzmy (TV series). One of the steps of reviewing AFC drafts is to determine suitability. While I noticed that the author added in more sources to establish notability, I feel that it still failed suitability as the article was too short can the information could have been merged into this article instead. I was just wondering your thoughts on this and why you decided to accept this draft. :) Snowycats (talk) 04:27, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

@Snowycats: there is now at least a major source that clearly meets WP:RS. It also meets WP:TVSHOW, particularly "Generally, an individual radio or television program is likely to be notable if it airs on a network of radio or television stations (either national or regional in scope), or on a cable television channel with a broad regional or national audience." which I believe this TV series meets. So as far as I can see, it is a valid article about a notable subject. For sure, it would be better if the article was longer, but there is enough to act as a stub. If it can't be expanded further, it could in the future be merged into The Career of Nicodemus Dyzma, but is doing no harm to the encyclopedia in the meantime. Removal of content in Rhydyronen railway station in your edition of 20:54, 22 December 2019

Moved from heading: [1]

The cite note which you referred to as "Blatantly Original research" referred to the entire paragraph up to that point, not just the section you deleted. It was put there to explain why the content before it was not able to be found in the Talyllyn News issue sited later, such that the entire paragraph would not be deleted on the basis of mis-using a citation. The fact that the station is well-known by the locals to have substantial Daffodil and Bluebell populations is so immediately obvious if one travels in a springtime train hardly even counts as original research, and probably all that was needed was to site a photographer who had photographed the station in spring, I had not done this as I had not found the time, if you could not find the time to do anything better you could just leave my attempt alone, there was no ned to delete it. Also, if all original content included in the page (even if observed by others before, much of the research, such as the position of the station, and the entire of the "construction" section) needed deleting, why did you only delete such a small proportion, probably the least original portion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WT79 The Engineer (talkcontribs) 17:38, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

@WT79 The Engineer: You attempted to cite it to "own work". Here's the diff: [2]. What you added was "During springtime, the station is locally famous for the size of it's daffodil and bluebell populations when they are in bloom.<ref name=":3">own work</ref>". You absolutely cannot use "own work" as a citation. That is clear original research, as multiple editors have now told you. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 17:47, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
@The Mirror Cracked: No, what was said was "... to serve local farms, and the village of Bryn-crug. @WT79 The Engineer: what I quoted is literally what you wrote, Your edit added "During springtime, the station is locally famous for the size of it's daffodil and bluebell populations when they are in bloom" sourced to "own work". Sources apply to the text they are next to. If you want a source to apply to multiple separate pieces of text, you need to reference each one of them to the same source. Either way "own work" is not a reference of any sort, and is not allowable on Wikipedia. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 19:36, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
@The Mirror Cracked:Yes, I understand that reasoning for why you removed the content you removed, I was just trying to question why you made such a limited removal of data, when so much of the data sited in the article was unverified. Sources can apply to all text bettween them and the previous source unless otherwise stated, and that site note was only added, as a tempory measure, to show the limits of the following citation (the text the following citation applied to was then moved to a different part of the article), and the unverified work was added, for the same reasons any unverified work is ever added, as a means of [| prioritising content being added to wikipedia over ading verification citations], according to wikipedia's guidelines. I was going to cite my work later, along with other workWT79 The Engineer (talk) 20:04, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

The reason why I added a link for Left Me Hangin is because I thought it would redirect to the actual page. I think Left Me Hangin’ may be an orphan for some reason. CheatCodes4ever (talk) 04:09, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

@CheatCodes4ever: Left Me Hangin is a redirect to Jacob Sartorius discography, so if you link from the discography to the redirect, it will just redirect back to where you started. There is no Left Me Hangin article. I thought you had decided to retire? If you are continuing to edit you should remove the {{retired}} tag from your userpage. I’m a little bit confused. What unreliable sources did I use in the draft for Cyrus discography? CheatCodes4ever (talk) 23:03, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

@CheatCodes4ever: please read WP:NALBUM. The article doesn't meet any of the criteria. In particular, it does not have "multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble who created it." Neither the Australian charts nor Spotify come close to that. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 00:07, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

I’m not creating an album article - I’m creating a discography album. I don’t get what you mean. CheatCodes4ever (talk) 03:48, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

@CheatCodes4ever: you still need to show that the subject matter is notable enough to warrant a separate article. You need to show that at least some of Cyrus' work meet WP:NALBUM. Given the poor performance of most, if not all, of the music, and the small amount of it, I see no reason to create a separate discography article. It's fine kept in the Cyrus Villanueva article. Why are you so insistent on moving it into a separate article? There's no reason to. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 03:56, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

How is it not an album?

You said that I need a “reliable source”, but how is Spotify not a reliable source? Spotify isn’t really a website, it’s a place where people listen to music. But it does show info about songs, and it’s not like someone can edit it. I am a singer myself, but I don’t know much about sending songs to Spotify, because I release music on TuneCore, who sends the songs to other platforms instead of me. Whoever sends the songs to them for their approval will probably show the song or album’s details, such as, release date, type, label, writer(s) and producer(s). I know that this is what happens, as the details to my songs on Spotify are shown, and they are accurate. So I don’t know why it would be different with Better With You. CheatCodes4ever (talk) 20:44, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

@CheatCodes4ever: the Spotify link did not say that it was an album. The Billboard source said it is an EP. Billboard is an independent, published source. Spotify is a primary source, Billboard is a secondary source, and we always prefer secondary sources to primary ones, so even if the Spotify page called it an album (which it does not) we would prefer Billboard's description of it as an EP. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 21:16, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Could you double check if the link said it was an album? CheatCodes4ever (talk) 03:37, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

The link did say so. If you click on the EP on Spotify, it says Better With You, then on a line below that, it says: Album by Jacob Sartorius - 2018. CheatCodes4ever (talk) 03:40, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

@CheatCodes4ever: I've just checked it again, and the link [3] does not say "album" anywhere, at least on Spotify web UI. Perhaps it's different on the app? Either way, the fact that Spotify is a primary source and Billboard is a secondary source means we prefer what the Billboard article says anyway - see WP:PSTS. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 03:49, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Winston Churchill

Hi, I was fixing a source without a proper Cite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page). sign on it, though I had trouble finding it initially and so accidentally deleted one of the sources, thinking it was the problem. Glad to hear it's been restored and the source with the missing sign has been fixed as well.

My apologies for not adequately explaining why I "deleted" the other source. I had no intention of doing so and apologise if I accidentally got rid of it. I was trying to ensure the source tag for another source had its ending, and failing to notice the correct culprit and instead thinking it was the other one, I deleted it and realised my mistake. Again, terribly sorry for making it appear as if I was vandalising a very important page.

Request on 16:11:17, 16 January 2020 for assistance on AfC submission by Ginaa1111

Hello Mirror Cracked! I hope you are having a wonderful week. Thank you so much for your advice and guidance on this whole process.

May I ask you a favor? May I ask if I could pay you to help me write this, and then we can claim at the top that I paid you to help me write it? I think "colorful upselling language" is more my style, and yes, I am very connected to the subject because it is me. That didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. haha. I would love to pay someone like you, who has much experience in this style of writing. I feel as though the online presence that comes up when one Googles my name at present, has gone downhill with Google. I don't know who is in control of my knowledge panel, but they are posting girlfriend pics (from Russia) from 8 years ago. As my main photo, when you google Gina Aponte. I tried to claim "my own" knowledge panel twice, with ID and all, and they keep rejecting me. It's becoming comical, but in a more frustrating sense.

That is why I turned to you. Because I saw other actors whose names were Googled, I saw that your Wikipedia would come up first in that knowledge panel spot, then IMDB would be next. But Google "knowledge panel" wasn't able to take main spot like Wikipedia could. That is why I wanted to try Wikipedia for a write up on me and my career.

Would you quote me a fee to pay you to write this for me? I don't have a lot of extra cash, but I am willing to invest what I do have, in someone like you. It would help with my sanity, anytime I google myself. (haha) No matter your answer, thank you for listening! I didn't know who else to contact. Because my industry rep at present is an ent lawyer, and he can't write very well in this style either. So thank you, simply for listening! I hope you will want to work with me. Looking forward to your thoughts. Sincerely, Gina Aponte'

PS. They also have a fake Instagram Link on my knowledge panel, which I have been trying to get removed as fraud, or as "the wrong Gina Aponte" for this knowledge panel. I have never had an Instagram account. But they have yet to remove that one, connected to my photos on Google's main page.

Ginaa1111 (talk) 16:11, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

@Ginaa1111: Thanks for the message. I'm afraid I do not accept payment for any of my editing work on Wikipedia, on a matter of principle, as I could not write from a neutral point of view if I received compensation. I'm sorry about your issues with Google. They are unconnected with Wikipedia, of course, so not something I can help with. Good luck, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 01:27, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Nomination Deletion

Hi man how are you, I wish you can remove the nomination deletion tag from the article Amir Aldaraji it’s full of verified information and it has anything that a great article needs and also Amir Aldaraji is very notable in Iraq I wish you can understand and remove the tag and I hope other users to stop edit warring. Happy Thanksgiving! Sunflowers2007 (talk) 10:21, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

@Sunflowers2007: I'm sorry, but I can't do that. The AfD process does not allow the nominator to unilaterally withdraw the nomination. Even if I could, I would not. The sources you have added show that Aldaraji does not met Wikipedia's notability rules. We have specific rules to determine if a footballer is notable: WP:NFOOTY. These say that a footballer has to either:
  • "have played in any Tier 1 International Match in a competitive senior international match at confederation level" - Aldaraji has not done this, he's only played in the U17 team
  • Or he could have "played in a competitive game between two teams from fully-professional leagues" - which he has not.
He also does not meet WP:GNG since none of the sources you have given are substantial coverage in independent, published sources. So as the article stands, he is clearly not notable by the rules of Wikipedia. If you disagree with my assessment or have found further sources that show he is notable, please make add a comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amir Aldaraji and not on my talk page. Thanks, The Mirror Cracked (talk) 17:30, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

  Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [4]

  Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Galltymoelfre Tramway

This section of the Talyllyn Railway article refers to the Cantrybedd Incline as the "final" incline. This ignores the Hendre Wallog/Beudynewydd/Cwmcm inclines on the other side of the Cantrybedd level at Bryneglwys Quarry which lifted the railway's waggons up to higher parts of the quarry. There might be room for a piece about the internal quarry trackage either in this article or the quarry's own article. RGCorris (talk) 17:02, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

@RGCorris: this is one of those gray areas. Is Beudynewydd the last incline on the Galltymoelfre Tramway, or the first internal incline within the quarry? You could make both cases. Currently the Talyllyn Railway article follows Boyd in saying that the Tramway ends at the top of the Cantrybedd incline. That seems reasonable. I'm all in favor of someone (you? me?) writing a proper description of the quarry in the Bryneglwys Quarry article, including the major inclines amongst other features. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 21:59, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
The article currently reads : "The tramway ended at the foot of the Cantrybedd incline, a 440 ft (130 m) long double track, gravity operated incline. This final incline rose to the north edge of Bryn Eglwys quarry, reaching a height of 612 ft (187 m) above sea level." That implies that Cantrybedd is not a part of the tramway, but is the "Final" incline, which either way it isn't. RGCorris (talk) 14:26, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Vikesland

Hey mate, hate to bother you but might I inquire as to your reasons for nominating Vikesland's deletion from Wikipedia? I do not believe they deserve to be deleted even though they are defunct and am of the conviction that they were (and indeed still are) rather influential within the micrionational community. Was just curious.

Best wishes, --BestOnLifeform (talk) 06:35, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

@BestOnLifeform: the article as it stands does not meet WP:GNG as it only has one reliable source. The article doesn't make any claim that Vikesland was influential. If it was, and you can show that by citing independent, published sources, then it would pass WP:GNG and be retained. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 06:43, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
    • Welp, guess I've got some work on my hands in the morning. Oh and I did add one more source (though it's about the flag). Thanks for getting back to me, I was just wanting to see things from your point of view. I'll contact you when I'm done editing the page and see what you think about it then. Till later, have a good day.

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello The Mirror Cracked/Archives,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Hello

Hello, I made an edit to The Young Turks page to make it much more accurate. But you said it wasn't neutral enough. If that's not neutral enough, why does the Infowars page say that they're fake news when they are far more accurate than TYT?

SoftwareNugget (talk) 23:58, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

@SoftwareNugget: your edit added "Propaganda" to the article. That violates two of Wikipedia's core rules. It didn't have a source, so it cannot be verified by readers. And it introduced your personal opinion of The Young Turks, which violates our requirement that articles maintain a neutral point of view. You'll notice that the InfoWars article cites no less than 10 sources that say it is a fake news site. The Mirror Cracked (talk) 02:18, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

Draft article

Dear "the Mirror Cracked", I would like to express my gratitude to you for providing me with an appropriate opportunity to work on (without hindrance) and enhance my article about "Junaid-Khan" as you moved it to drafts. I understand that initially it was "raw", but if you kindly check it again, I believe you will find a full fledged article that meets the notability guidelines and was provided with independent reliable sources to show notability. I hope it now qualifies as an article and other users would be given a chance to contribute objective materials to it. Thank you!

Hello The Mirror Cracked/Archives,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.
