Up quark

edit

Hello Leon,

I've reverted your edit on the up quark article. While you certainly meant well, in this case the subtleties of science are important. The 2010 value you cited was certainly more precise than the other, however lattice QCD is only one of several ways to estimate the mass of the up quark. The Particle Data Group reviews all papers (including the Lattice QCD paper you cited as being more precise) and all methods, and then produces an average of estimates, with an uncertainty over the range of estimates. So on Wikipedia, we usually report the most recent PDG value, as the PDG is the most authoritative of all sources.

I hope that clarifies. And again, welcome to wikipedia. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 05:24, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
