All good edit

No problem mate, yeah absolutely excited for Vic's fight, with Alvarez-Cintron, Wlodarczyk-Green, Darchinyan-Moreno, Agbeko-Mares 2, Cotto-Margarito 2, Klitschko-Mormeck and Froch-Ward comming up, i can't remember a end of year program being topped off with so many consistently good fights on a weekly basis, soooo pumped!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aussieswimmer (talkcontribs) 01:17, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Alvarez by TKO I'm really getting the bandwagon with him since his last few fights, Green by decision in a epic war. Darchinyan by a wide points decision, as good as Moreno is, he's struggled with Monshipour and Cermeno so i figure Vic can go one better than them. Mares all the way, Agbeko is tuff but i get a feeling Mares is on the way up and Agbeko is one the way out. I'm pulling for Cotto but i'm worried me may not be able to hold off Margarito's aggression, if he boxes a disciplined fight and only occasional exchanges with him, then he can get revenge. Klitschko maybe gets easiest win of the last 5 years. And Froch-Ward, i keep going back and forth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aussieswimmer (talkcontribs) 03:13, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

== Slight mistake with evander's reign Evander's longest reign (3 years) was actually his 3rd reign. For that title reign he just had wba, ibf, ring, He had the wbc in his first heavyweight reign, If we applied former titles for multiple reigns the table would be a giant unreadable mess. I could put former ibf if that's puts a but more clarity, no hard feelings, just following the way the table was created. god bless — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aussieswimmer (talkcontribs) 02:03, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

September 2011 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not replace pages with blank content, as you did with this edit to Tommy Gunn, as this is confusing to readers. The page's content has been restored for now. If there is a problem with the page, it should be edited or reverted to a previous version if possible; if you think the page should be removed entirely, see further information. Thank you. Kubigula (talk) 22:02, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't trying to replace it with blank content, I was trying to make the article about the actual fictional character Tommy Gunn so it didn't have to redirect to Rocky V. Can I still do that? I won't accidently erase the page this time. Sorry about that. TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:11, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

a note edit

Please refrain from personal attacks even if the other user is blocked and causing trouble.[1][2]]. If you can't keep your cool, wait for others to revert for what on the face on it are often style changes, avoiding thus the impression that you're personally out to enforce them. Just an example: Here, you're just reverting thus defending a fluffy and poorly sourced statement with an inappropriate edit summery.[3] Thanks.--Tikiwont (talk) 21:23, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Don't think I'm being tricked. He has been edit warring and harassing you so he stays rightly indefinitely blocked and may indeed be banned permanently if they don't sop socking. I spent also part of my my time here assuring that. Please check out the relevant terms as you're confusing them. I was just curious if I see a glimmer of reason on their side.
Anyways and regardless of the quality of your contributions that I do not want to evaluate, but which we certainly don't measure byte by byte, if they're good others will agree. But your rights to edit do not include that to personal attacks in edit summaries. In short, my post above was referring only to you and only for you as I expect you to do better. The next content or style dispute will come up, some troll will show up or find an free IP or open proxy etc.--Tikiwont (talk) 09:04, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:325px-LaMotta Joey.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:325px-LaMotta Joey.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. February 2012 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Archie Moore, makes articles harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. You were told before that adding flags to acticles is a violation of MOS:FLAG. Arguing that they exist in other pages is not a justification to violate the MOS. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 02:11, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

In fact, you're doing everything wrong. You're eagerly returning insults. And, by doing this, you are exaggerating suspicions that your referenced edits are not that neutral;) which I believe are. Flag Icons edit

Hi. Could you please read;

Then, if you have any thoughts on my edits you can address them constructively and from an informed position. Thanks. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 23:42, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I see that your use of flags has already been pointed out to you as being in violation of the manual of style. Perhaps you could explain why it doesn't apply in these cases? --Escape Orbit (Talk) 23:46, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
The problem with the flags is that they are distractive icons that shouldn't be used. Of course people will recognize the Flag of the US or Canada, but would you recognize   or  ? The flags are unneeded nationalisms that were forbidden from many infoboxes, and at the Infobox boxer or MMA event should apply as well. The "other article has it" argument is vague, it is in another article because somebody believe that it was correct as s/he saw it in another article. A common example is the "see release history" link that appears in many musical-related articles. WP:IBX states that these internal links shouldn't be used as the WP:TOC exists. The real thing to do is reach a consensus to remove all flags from infoboxes, as boxers aren't national teams or countries, where the flags are more relevant. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 00:59, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
It is not that bad. but neither that OK. The real place where you should be discussing this is either WT:MOS or Template talk:Infobox boxer. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:27, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring adn attacks edit

You've been warned above again on personal attacks but you also need to refrain form edit warring: An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Ukboxen edits are not exempt because they are not banned but blocked indefinitely and you still revert before accounts are blocked and tagged accordingly. I think I asked you to review WP:BLOCK, WP:BAN and WP:3rr in the past, in any case do so now.

The exceptions would be actions performed by banned users, their sockpuppets and by tagged sockpuppets of indefinitely blocked. This needs to be interpreted in your case narrowly as you feed the fire with your own attacks, underline repeatedly that you haven't been blocked yet and revert other users as well. Here you revert as with the exception of the flagicon...[4].

In other word, you should not claim exceptions from the three revert rule unless a third party has tagged that account, in which case they will often block and revert. If you continue to do multiple reverts yourself or leash out with attacks before reporting the issue to the relevant boards, you are part of the problem and next time you'll be blocked.

A lot of activity has been gone into keeping that guy off the pages and your back, and I understand that it is frustrating but the page histories for some boxers are now a disgrace, so yes, this is a final warning for you: Do not edit war, do not issue any other attack. Don't even call content edits by a blocked user vandalism. If you can't do that move them from your watch list. Thanks --Tikiwont (talk) 20:48, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The Klitschko's edit

Well, Vitali is gonna retire this year, so i only think he has one or two fights left. So I dont see the sense in making sections all the time. His career is ending soon, so i think it is right to make a final section, just like on Mike Tyson's & and Lennox Lewis' articles.

IF Wladimir wins the WBC, then I agree we have to make an new section called Unidsputed Heavyweight Champion. But his fights in 2012 are not going to be any significant. Fight against Mormeck, rematch vs. Tony Thompsons and then maybe Arreola?. Well I think it is best it just called After Haye. Because it really tells what happened after his fight with Haye.

Cheers David-golota David-golota (talk) 18:45, 22 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well yeah, but just because other P4p boxers have many more sections, dosent make the article look better, only worse.

Look at Mike Tyson article. He dosent have so many articles and is clearly the most infamous boxer ever.

I think it only makes the articles looks worse and ugly with so many sections.

Look at the Sosnowski and Johnso sections. They are so short. It looks stupid.

The Manual of Style has guidelines against many of the links you are adding. See: WP:Overlink, specifically:"Generally, a link should appear only once in an article" and "Avoid linking the names of major ... locations."

There are also problems with link specificity (see WP:SPECIFICLINK) and unnecessary use of piped links.

David Haye fills alot. Very much. He brought the exciment and attention back to the heavyweight divison. Media hype and all the old great stuff back. He is Wladimirs rival. And Wladimir never really had an rival like Ali or Tyson had. That is why Haye is so "important".

Why do you have one use of the word "heavyweight" in lowercase and the other capitalized in the same sentence? For a casual reader like me, this just looks odd. -- James26 (talk) 00:39, 15 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Andre Ward edit

Dear User:TheShadowCrow, please see the comments I have added on the Talk:Andre Ward page. I'm not targeting anyone's edits in particular, and certainly not yours. You are welcome to add sources to verify your assessments. But without references, it often happens that opinions and descriptive comments fall short of WP:BLP guidelines. In my view (and I'm only one person and I may be wrong) some of this page did that. Please let me quote from those guidelines:

If you really want to replace all that commenary, I assure you I won't delete it again. I've never been in an edit war, and I don't want one now. I just encourage the full referencing of articles. By the way, if you were referring to my edits, I can assure you that the lineal stuff is not mine. Regards.GorgeCustersSabre (talk) 15:37, 28 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. The fact that I put "back" then lineal stuff that you hated so much does not mean that I agreed with it either. You and I are not the only editors on that page. Someone else clearly wanted to add that lineal section. As I said above, I don't intend to get into edit wars even with people who make pages worse or violate Wikipedia guidelines. Best wishes.GorgeCustersSabre (talk) 14:18, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Persistent violations of WP:BLP and WP:NOTAFORUM edit

It appears you have had many warnings for inappropriate additions to biographies of living persons (BLP) articles. Please review the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy in full, which includes the clear statement that adding unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material is forbidden. This addition was inappropriate for that reason and other reasons I gave here. You have however restored the content with an inappropriate and unhelpful edit summary. I am now removing it again - any re-adding of this content or other blatant BLP policy violations will result in the blocking of this account. Consider this your final warning.

Furthermore, it appears that you have been mass creating talk page threads which are not for discussion on improving the article in violation of WP:NOTAFORUM, such as this. If you review WP:NOT you will find that Wikipedia is not a venue for advocacy or testing free speech. Use of Wikipedia in this way is disruptive editing and any further (re-)creations of such threads will also result in a block. CT Cooper · talk 20:44, 23 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

It seems pretty clear to me that you have ignored the warning I gave you about following WP:BLP policy when editing BLP articles, as two recent examples demonstrate well:

Given the above edits, your earlier warnings, and the final warning above, I think it is fair to conclude that a block is needed here, therefore:

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 72 hours for persistent violations of the biographies of living persons policy. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. CT Cooper · talk 18:29, 29 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I seriously considered using WP:BLPSE to restrict your ability to edit BLP articles, but I determined that a block was sufficient for now. This will be reviewed if there any further problems after the block expires. CT Cooper · talk 18:29, 29 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Arbitration enforcement action appeal by TheShadowCrow edit

Procedural notes: The rules governing arbitration enforcement appeals are found here. According to the procedures, a "clear, substantial, and active consensus of uninvolved editors" is required to overturn an arbitration enforcement action.

To help determine any such consensus, involved editors may make brief statements in separate sections but should not edit the section for discussion among uninvolved editors. Editors are normally considered involved if they are in a current dispute with the sanctioning or sanctioned editor, or have taken part in disputes (if any) related to the contested enforcement action. Administrators having taken administrative actions are not normally considered involved for this reason alone (see WP:UNINVOLVED).

Statement by TheShadowCrow edit

The guy who said this is my first real warning was right. Before, with the incident involving Cooper, the issue was repeaded editing. And what we were editing over had NOTHING TO DO WITH AA. This time it was about expressing opinion in edit summarys. No one ever really told me I shouldn't do that, they just linked a page to rules without explaining which one I was breaking. Six months is unfairly wrong and I'd like it to be much shorter or none at all, which would make sense because three days is plenty for a first offense.

The only problem I see was I voiced my opinion in the summary. Besides that, there was nothing wrong with my edit. It was actually an older edit, but after some time azeris began to put speculation (or more acctuaratly, denial) that the chess player said anything racist. They imply he was wrongly quoted but there's no proof to that anywhere. Grandmaster even told me in a previous debate that we have to go with the reference even if have have reason to believe it's wrong. So no, I don't see any problem.

This was the first offense I have had on a AA page and to ban me for six months over it is completely zealous.

Cenk Ugyar is a biased Turkish-American talk show host. He is neither Armenian nor Azeri and doesn't talk about AA issues on his corrupt show. So the only other reason I could be banned from AA is for violating BLP, but that seems pretty shallow seeing as how there was nothing wrong with my actual edit.

Me and Grandmaster have debated over AA issue before and we did so peacfully, so I have also shown I am capable of using the talk page and not resorting to edit wars on AA subjects.

I admit I was wrong to put opinion in the summary. But I feel that the three day ban I recieved for that was sufficent punishment. Banning me from AA articles doesn't solve anything. If I had vandalized several of their pages, that would be a sufficent point. But I never vandalized that actual page of Teimour Radjabov. So, just HOW can I be banned for six months from something I have never vandalized the actual page for?

Someone (He has no real name anymore because he has made many different accounts, but his IP is usually 178) in the boxing articles I edit is always swearing at Admins and cussing at fellow editors who disagree with him. He has been banned dozens (yes, dozens) of times for such acts, but never for more than a day or so. If you don't believe me, ask Materialscientist. He has carried out most of this user's bans. If a real vandal can swear at Admins, start seveal edit wars and put countless slurs in the history tab and only be banned or a few days, where is the justice in me being banned for six months over one history BLP violation, but no actual artical vandalation? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 02:41, 5 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Further WP:BLP violations edit

In less than 24 hours after the block expired, and already I am finding issues with your edits to BLPs:

  • You added some content to Victor Ortiz relating to drugs without properly citing it, as far as I can see drugs is not mentioned in the source provided and there is no source for the quote either. It should have occurred to you that anything relating to drugs is contentious, and a source must be provided, particular if you include a quote.
  • On Gago Drago, you added content without making any attempt to source it, despite being required by WP:BLP/WP:V. Given that this was non-contentious and there was already a lot of unsourced information, which might make it look okay, I am letting this one go.

This is the only post-block warning that you are going to receive for violations of WP:BLP policy. I will say now now that any further edits like that observed on Victor Ortiz, then I will be utilising WP:BLPSE to disallow you from editing BLPs, either indefinitely or for a significant period of time. This may or may not extend to talk pages depending on the circumstances. I am coming to the conclusion given the above and your comments at User talk:The Blade of the Northern Lights that you simply don't "get it" in regards to BLP policy, and while this would be a broad ban, it would be justified.

On the AA ban you have received, I should point out that you have had more than one "offence" on these articles, with Cenk Uygur being an example. You claim it has not been clearly explained to you what rule you have broken on Teimour Radjabov. I actually gave you lengthy explanations on what you were doing wrong on that and other things, but I'm not going to spoon feed you policy - you should read the policies cited to you and from that understand what you are doing wrong. The main problem you seem to have is that you repeatedly add content and make contentious statements which is not supported by the sources, and is frequently just your own personal opinion - just reading the first few paragraph on the WP:BLP policy says not to do that, so I'm not buying that excuse and I doubt those who review any appeal will either. It is basic policy on this project that you source content (WP:V) and don't use articles to advocate your own views (WP:NOR/WP:NPOV), and these rules just become more important on BLPs. Thank you for your response on my talk page and your reinstatement of most of the changes. A few comments however:
  • The link to 'American' probably does violate WP:OVERLINK ("do not link to ... major geographic features and locations"), but in any case it's a valueless link. There's probably not a single reader on the planet who will be in any doubt that 'American' in this context means 'citizen of the United States'; no-one will ever use that link.
  • I don't see the point of even mentioning that Chicago is in Illinois, still less linking to the state. If any reader is interested in finding out more about the city where he died, the Chicago link is the one they'll use. The state where Chicago is located has no relevance to Ezzard Charles. Archiving set-up edit

Hello,

I'm now back from holiday and so have been able to set-up archiving for you. I have moved everything old to User talk:TheShadowCrow/Archive 1 and added the {{talk header}} to your talk page to provide a simple link to the archives. I have also set-up an archive bot by adding the appropriate template and settings to the top of this talk page. This bot will archive old material on your talk page once it has been inactive for fourteen days, but will only archive a minimum of two threads at a time and will always leave at least five threads on this talk page. Everything currently goes to Archive 1, but once this archive reaches 200K it will create a new archive automatically. These are settings that I have made-up so feel free to tinker with them - see User:MiszaBot/config for advanced archive bot settings. Alternatively, you can remove the template completely and archive everything yourself. See WP:ARCHIVE for further help. If you don't like {{talk header}}, there are alternatives such as {{Archive box}} which I use. CT Cooper · talk 17:56, 10 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't think weightlifting (as it is today) even existed before the 20th century, because it requires special technology to create its equipment. And if you look at the List of Armenian Olympic medalists, our first Olympic medalist in weightlifting was in 1952, the year Soviet Union entered the Olympics, so it's hard to tell when exactly it came to Armenia, but I guess it was after WWII.

Carl Lewis edit

I undid your edit in the Carl Lewis article again. You brought up that Emmiyan should be referred by his ethnic group however, athletes in this article are referred to by the nation they represented, not by their ethnic groups. Notice Ben Johnson is referred to as a Canadian and not as a Black Canadian or African Canadian or Jamaican Canadian. Additionally, regarding the sentence you have edited, the sentence is in context of the nation that he represented during the race, not what he would represent in the future. There should be no special treatment regarding this one particular athlete. This information is in Emmiyan's Wikipedia article anyway so there is no need to add to the Carl Lewis article which would damage the above uniformity I mentioned. As a result, I undid your edit again. BearMan998 (talk) 00:14, 6 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding the term Soviet Armenian for Emmiyan for this particular 1986 event. The above still applies and again, Emmiyan was representing the Soviet Union at the time, not Armenia. Even the referenced source states the Soviet Union. It doesn't say Soviet Armenian or Armenian Soviet. BearMan998 (talk) 19:18, 19 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Once again, Emmiyan did not compete for Armenia in 1986. Again, he competed for the Soviet Union. Again, do not add this to the Carl Lewis article. This is your last warning over this disruptive editing. BearMan998 (talk) 01:16, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
An 8.86 m jump is not even referring to this event where he jumped for 8.61 m. BearMan998 (talk) 02:12, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Again the source in the article lists Soviet Union and multiple sources list the Soviet Union. It wasn't until after this 1986 event that he competed for Armenia. And the sentence you keep inserting this into refers only to a 1986 event where he only competed for the Soviet Union. BearMan998 (talk) 03:15, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Re: Questions and ideas edit

I don't really know that much about categories, because I never had experience with them But I know that there's some program that can add categories to dozens of pages in few seconds, but I don't know what it's called.

I strongly support that idea, but I don't know how how we can put that information there. It would like ugly if we put it on two lines, like this:

  Armenian SSR
  Soviet Union

Another thing we can do is somehow point out the ones that are from the Arm SSR.

Also, it is really interesting for us, but I don't think this will be appropriate for wiki. I'm not really sure. --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 01:04, 19 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

The category looks good.

I have an Armenian book which lists all the ethnic Armenian medalists of the Soviet period and indicated the city/republic they came from. So it won't take much of a time from me. I'll try few ways of pointing out the ones from Arm SSR and chose the best one and I'll let you know before applying it.

Probably yes, you shold add the Soviet representatives as well, because anything before Atlanta 96 is considered other country.--Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 00:13, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

October 2012 edit

Your recent editing history at Carl Lewis shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. --Yankees76 Talk 14:28, 23 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

The usual criterion for inclusion in Wikipedia is explained here. Very basically, we only summarise information that's already published in reliable sources that're independent of the subject. We do this to ensure both that our information is verifiable, and that it can be written neutrally. If you have any questions, please ask. Cheers, WilyD 08:05, 24 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Olympians of Armenian descent edit

Hi. I've removed the text & categories you've added to articles such as Hratch Zadourian, Sirop Arslanian and Michael Gostigian. The categories need to be supported in the body of the article and backed up with reliable sources to indicate that they are of the ethnic descent you've added. Please also see this for more info. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:46, 25 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Robert Avanesyan for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Robert Avanesyan is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Robert Avanesyan until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Holyfield1998 (talk) 13:15, 25 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

TheShadowCrow - while I didn't agree with you 100% on the Carl Lewis/Emmiyan issue, do support this article being allowed to exist. If you want to avoid having this article deleted, please ensure you post "KEEP" with a brief explanation, citing the appropriate policy as to why this article should not be deleted. WP:ATHLETE is the most likely best guideline to quote. In the meantime you should expand the article using reliable sources. I've added a few competition placings in the meantime, but this may not be enough to show there are reliable third party published articles about him - I'll leave it to you to find those. --Yankees76 Talk 19:35, 25 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Arsen Galstyan edit

Please provide in the body of the article the evidence that he is an Armenian citizen, otherwise the category will be removed. You probably know that the Russian law requires that everybody who naturalizes into Russian citizenship has to renounce all previous citizenships. The place of birth is irrelevant. The fact that Galstyan is ethnic Armenian is prominently featured in the article (in fact, before my edits it was difficult to figure out that he is competing for Russia and not for Armenia), and this is in my view more than enough. Thank you.--Ymblanter (talk) 05:40, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removing AfD template edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Robert Avanesyan. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. October 2012 edit

You have been blocked from editing for a period of one month for violating your topic ban of all Armenia/Azerbaijan-related pages by editing the Mount Ararat article where there was no obvious vandalism. Add to that edit-warring and incivility towards other users (accusation of racism). You may request an {{unblock}} by putting that template on your talk page including a convincing reason why your actions do not warrant a block.. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Request reason:

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NPA#What_is_considered_to_be_a_personal_attack.3F

Which of thse did I do? I don't see any that I said.

2. Calling someone a vandal isn't insulting if they are vandalizing. And that's what E4024 did by removing information supported in the article. In fact, you didn't take the reference to Armenian culture off, so you must agree with me that it shouldn't have been removed.

3. I thought carefully about if I should undo his edit or not and I decided it would be ok because this is neither a BLP nor a political topic

4. I did not see how this fits in with AA subjects. You're wording on the ROA page implies editing on the page to remove vandalism is justified anyway.

5. He IS a racist http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Armenian_Secret_Army_for_the_Liberation_of_Armenia&diff=517061666&oldid=517061053

6. So, to summarize:

You said it's ok to edit AA pages to revert vandalism. (Note: Not that I was ever told geographical land thats not in Armenia or Azerbaijan falls under Armenian and Azeri topics.)

You recognize E4's edit as removal of content.

The very first sentence on the Vandalism page mentions removal of content falling under vandalism.

I did not personally attack him in any way.

His edit implies irredentism is a part of Armenian culture, which can be considered a racist statement.

So why am I banned? TheShadowCrow (talk) 00:16, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Please familiarize yourself with what is vandalism and what is not. Content disputes are not vandalism. Your topic ban only allows uncontroversial reverting of simple, obvious vandalism. The rule of the thumb here is that if someone other than the person being reverted disagrees with it being called vandalism, it's not a vandalism. Max Semenik (talk) 00:44, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

This was not an edit dispute, he purposely tried to censor the culture importance of the topic and imply that it's signifigance comes from attemptive political gain, which is actually mentioned in Anti-Armenianism. No controversy, he purposely harmed the article. By intentionally removing info, he committed vandalism, and by committing Anti-Armenianism, he committed racism. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 00:59, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Is no one else going to respond? I have made it perfectly clear why I shouldn't be banned.

The link De7286 claims I violated says it is for BLP, which this is not. It also says it involves Armenian and Azeri issues, which the article in question doesn't involve. He has also claimed it was not clear vandalism. Yet he also removed it!

Is there any Admin out there reading this that can prove me wrong? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 15:08, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

If no one can answer me, then I shouldn't be banned. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 18:56, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Just a side note: you've already been warned here that not everything you disagree with is vandalism, which makes today's violation even more aggravated. Max Semenik (talk) 00:52, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

See above response --TheShadowCrow (talk) 01:16, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm not going to continue discussion (nor I feel that it's needed) - as a last suggestion I can recommend you to look at your behaviour from WP:IDHT standpoint. Max Semenik (talk) 19:56, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
If my point won't be accepted by the community, than I expect an explaination why. I was in fact reverting vandalism. That's why De728631 also reverted it. E4 was removing content, which is considered vandalism. Vandalism is not the same thing as content dispute. If you can prove me wrong, I will stop. But if you can't, the reason is because I'm right, and you should accept it. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 21:21, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
AND NOBODY HAS EVEN TOLD ME WHICH PERSONAL ATTACK I DID http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NPA#What_is_considered_to_be_a_personal_attack.3F --TheShadowCrow (talk) 23:02, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
The personal attack you made was accusing E4024 of racism in this edit summary. Such baseless rants are not acceptable. And in case you missed it, I reverted your edit, not E4024's. Apart from that I agree with Max Semenik that a further discussion of this topic is unneeded. De728631 (talk) 09:07, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I meant what Wikipedia considers a personal attack (see link), not what De728631 considers a personal attack.
But you didn't keep E4's "significant role in Armenian irredentism" line, which is what I said is vandalism. The article currently says "significant role in Armenian culture and irredentism" which is what it said and what I restored it to. If I did something wrong on that page, why does my edit remain? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 13:10, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I just noticed you reverted E4's edits on the Ararat article because he was doing more or less the same thing he did to the Mount Ararat article (removing Armenian historical and cultural importance). In other words, you banned me for something you also did. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:27, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

WP:ARBAA2 sanctions made indefinite edit

Under the authority of Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions, TheShadowCrow (talk · contribs) is banned from all articles, talk pages, and discussions covered under WP:ARBAA2 (meaning Armenia-Azerbaijan and related ethnic conflicts) for an indefinite period, broadly construed. Violation of these restrictions will result in escalating blocks which may reach up to 1 year in length.

Given your recent block and other general indications that you will continue problematic conduct after the current sanctions expire in December, I'm extending them to indefinite. "Indefinite" does not mean permanent, they may eventually be lifted by community consensus or via appeal to the Arbitration Committee, although that will only happen once it is clear that you can trusted to edit in this area appropriately, and personally I think it is for your own good as well as the projects that you stay away from this topic area. CT Cooper · talk 11:35, 28 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I disagree with your decision. Judging from the debate above, it seems I was banned on the grouds of "Just 'cause" instead of AA. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 13:18, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't expecting you to agree, but for one thing, some of the underlying conduct issues seem to remain, one being the persistent need to be spoon fed policy. It seems most appropriate that you get the house in order outside AA issues before these restrictions are lifted. CT Cooper · talk 13:55, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's because the policy is incredibly loose. I mean, if the article had the Armenia–Azerbaijan relations category or something like that, it would be different. Can you honestly add that category to the Mount Ararat article? If not, than maybe it shouldn't count. Regardless, I edited that page to remove vandalism, which doesn't violate any rules.
I'm also a bit suprised and disapointed you haven't had anything to say about the discussion above. De is saying I made a personal attack but he can't identify which one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NPA#What_is_considered_to_be_a_personal_attack.3F) it was. Can an Admin ban someone if they can't defend their reason or doing so? This is pure corruption. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:15, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Also Ararat isn't an "ethnic conflict" --TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:19, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Are you are trying to argue to me that calling someone a racist and a vandal is not a personal attack? Such an attack isn't even borderline, and there is no chance of the community or ArbCom having a different view. Under WP:NPA#WHATIS accusations about personal behaviour that lack evidence is a personal attack, not to mention making comments on racial lines. It is also apparent that you haven't read the section being cited since it clearly says "These examples are not exhaustive. Insulting or disparaging an editor is a personal attack regardless of the manner in which it is done. When in doubt, comment on the article's content without referring to its contributor at all."
Vandalism is defined as a deliberate attempt to damage Wikipedia, and is very narrowly defined - WP:VAND#NOT. Any edit made in good faith is not vandalism, even if violates other policies such as WP:NPOV. Calling someone a vandal is offensive and so the word should not be used lightly, and it is long-standing precedent that false use of the term vandal is a person attack and grounds for a block if persistent. The general rule is that if you accuse a long-standing editor of vandalism, you are doing something wrong.
One of the reasons you were topic banned from this area was persistent poor judgement and a general inability to engage constructively with other editors, and this is yet another example of that. As for the scope of the topic ban, you know we have had this conversation. You are banned from Armenia-Azerbaijan articles and discussions, broadly construed. This means any content with any remote link to Armenia-Azerbaijan disputes is off limits to you, and that extends to Mount Ararat given the history. The content you were editing was about Armenian nationalism which is clearly covered. The idea of a topic ban is that you go and find something completely different to edit - skimming around the edges is frowned upon and you will therefore get very little sympathy if you overstep the line, even accidentally. Editing articles of people which happen to be Armenian or Azerbaijani is tolerable if there is no ethnic/nationalistic related content, which covers a lot of sports' BLPs, but anything beyond that is not. CT Cooper · talk 09:55, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
See, here's the thing though: I never called him a vandal or a racist. Why do none of the Admins realize that?
Vandalism: He was clearly no doubt vandalizing the page. De himself removed the part of E4's edit I originally removed after E4 restored it. He was removing content from the article. This is vandalism. If you expect me to not cut corners on AA articles, I expect you to not cut corners on a user's obvious intentions.
Racism: Let's look at what E4's vandal edit and what the page originally said:
It also plays a significant role in Armenian irredentism.
It also plays a significant role in Armenian culture and irredentism.
I'll translate this for you: "Armenians have no culture and only exist to lobby." So, to say Armenians have no cultural importantance to the mountain and their only relation to it is to politically gain land, is considered Anti-Armenianism and is even mentioned in the article's header.
So, to top it off, I never called him a name, even though his edit contained both vandalism and racism. Therefore, I haven't made a personal attack and my reasons for editing the Mount Ararat article are justified because I was removing vandalism.
As for engaging constructively with other users, you should look into the work I have been doing with User:Yerevanci.--TheShadowCrow (talk) 00:05, 31 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, can you please indent your posts correctly so I don't have to keep doing it for you - see WP:INDENT.
As for the vandalism and racism issue, what you are arguing above is a textbook example of wikilawyering, in particular "Misinterpreting policy or relying on technicalities to justify inappropriate actions." A vandal is someone who commits vandalism, so if you call someone's edit vandalism, you are accusing them of being a vandal; similarly if you are accusing someone of making racist edits, you are accusing them of being racist. Whatever technicality you try and levy, you made a serious unjustified personal attack against someone, which will not be tolerated here.
On the definition of vandalism, even if the edits were vandalism, you were still in violation of your editing restrictions. Only obvious vandalism is exempt - which would mean people making edits which are obviously inappropriate such as blanking the page, of which a competent person would need no knowledge of the topic to see. Given that you find the need to dive into the topic area to explain that the edits were vandalism, that is effectively an admission it wasn't obvious vandalism.
In any case, the edits weren't vandalism at all. I have already linked WP:VANDNOT to you and it is obvious that you haven't read it. The reason you are banned from AA articles is that your judgement is compromised in this topic area, and this extends to making inappropriate assumptions about other actions in violation of WP:AGF - the reason why "obvious" is put in front of the vandalism exemption. Disruptive editing, violating WP:NPOV, adding incorrect information, removing content are only vandalism in certain contexts, which this case does not meet, so even if all of that was true with these edits, that does not make them vandalism.
At the end of the day, we are heading towards a WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT situation here, and I will only attempt explain something to you so many times over. However, I will make clear now that if there is another incident of you wrongly calling an editor a vandal or racist, you will blocked for significantly longer than one month. CT Cooper · talk 14:14, 31 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Now that is pure hypocrisy. First you say I was streching the rules by editing an AA page with little to do with AA relations, and now you're bending the rules to say I called someone an offensive name without actually calling them a name.
Calling someone's edit vandalism is not the same as calling them a vandal. This is not a personal attack and cannot be considered insulting.
That's like saying every time you undo a poor edit and say so in the summary, you're calling the person an idiot.
In fact, calling an edit vandalism as opposed to the user a vandal can be considered the positive version for not refering to the editor directly. It's like offering ideas of improvment as opposed to just criticising.
"Misinterpreting policy or relying on technicalities to justify inappropriate actions." Ironicly, you seem to be wikilawyering by claiming I made a personal attack without saying anything about a person.
"Obvious vandalism" is your opinion. What we know is that he intended to cause the page harm and another Admin reverted his edit after he restored it. Seems like pretty "obvious" vandalism to me. If an Admin has to revert it, than it clearly wasn't constructive.
I've read the page and I don't see what makes you think I didn't. Removing content is disruptive to Wikipedia, as we already went over. That's what E4 did. If his edit wasn't counter constructive, why did De728631 undo it himself? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:36, 31 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think that will do - you clearly just don't get it and I'm not repeating myself again. Since you have demonstrated that you cannot correctly identify vandalism, I am modifying the restrictions to explicitly state that vandalism is not a valid exemption. I have put in a place a very narrow exemption to even this, in which you can report obvious vandalism to an active administrator. CT Cooper · talk 10:39, 1 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm as tired of this as you are. But this is different than the sock time, when I clearly did something wrong. I wouldn't still be doing this if I didn't truely believe I shouldn't have been banned.
I hope you don't think that modification impacts this past issue.
You say you're tired of repeating yourself? Fine. Then answer I question I have asked several times but you haven't answered once. How much more "obvious" can vandalism be when an Admin has to undo it?
I reverted the part where E4 removed information connecting Ararat to Armenian culture and notice that De728631 had not restored it. Think about it. I was the one who got banned, yet E4 is the one who's edit was reverted. Why? Because the wrong person was banned. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 01:35, 2 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Uninvolved editor chiming in here just point out something. Are you forgeting about this edit that occured between the two diffs you have linked above? Look at the revision history again. You made a total of three edits. The first two were reverted by E4024. Your last edit was reverted by De728631. So none of your changes remain in the current version. The only action by the admin was to revert your latest edit. Therefore your question How much more "obvious" can vandalism be when an Admin has to undo it? hasn't been directly answered because it does not appear to make any sense or is based on a misunderstanding on your part as to what had happened. Hope this clarifies things. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 05:09, 2 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ah ok, I see what happened. User:Dr. K made this edit which restored the changes you had made in your first two edits. So your changes do in fact remain in the current article via Dr. K's action! So that explains your question. I'm not sure if De728631 realized this when De left the page after reverting your latest edit. --RacerX11 Talk to meStalk me 05:46, 2 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
So what we know is that I have third party support and De728631 didn't restore the vandalism part of E4's edit. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 14:37, 2 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm sticking to my guns here I'm afraid. I've looked through the edits and yes some lasting changes remain. I'm afraid this does not really work in TheShadowCrow's favour as the idea of the vandalism exemption is someone makes a vandalism edit, it's reverted, and the article is the same as it was before. Anything which goes beyond reverting is not covered by the exemption, so this demonstrates that he violated the editing restrictions irrespective of whether the changes by E4024 (talk · contribs) were vandalism or not. Whether intentional or not, this vandalism exemption was being used as a loophole to influence the content of restricted articles, and so it was right that it has been closed.

In any case, whether and how E4024's edits exist in the current version of the article is irrelevant because as I have tried to explain, just because an edit is reverted, was non-neutral, or otherwise disruptive does not make it vandalism as WP:VAND and WP:VANDNOT, which are both part of a policy, makes very clear. In fact, to make it even clearer I will block quote the relevant sections so there is no need to find it:

...

...

...

...

...

...

The reason I haven't answered the "How much more "obvious" can vandalism be when an Admin has to undo it?" is because its based on a false premise that "having your edits reverted = vandalism". If that was true, pretty much everyone on this project, including me, would be a vandal as having your good faith edits reverted is hardly unheard of - read WP:BRD.

The suggestion that calling someone's actions vandalism is not in any way calling them a vandal is a non-starter, quite frankly. If it isn't a joke it certainly shows a lack of understanding and respect to the reason, i.e. the spirit, of the WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL policies. I've been here long enough to know who goes to WP:ANI and tries to justify there actions in that way will, at best, not be taken seriously. Part of the problem here is that TheShadowCrow does not appear to appreciate what the word vandalism means, with this comment demonstrating that well in my opinion:

The idea that calling someone's edit vandalism is "positive" is blatantly not true - it a highly loaded term and will always be seen by an informed receiving editor as offensive - that's because, by calling someone's edit vandalism one is saying that that edit was made maliciously and was a deliberate attempt to damage Wikipedia because that is what vandalism is. Calling someone's edit vandalism is a statement of someone's intentions i.e. that they were editing in bad faith, and therefore TheShadowCrow's technical distinction between calling an editor a vandal and calling an editor vandalism does not exist in reality.

While I sympathize with the "wrong person was banned" point, at the end of day TheShadowCrow is banned from editing AA articles - while E4024 (talk · contribs) is not. TheShadowCrow was wrong to intervene in that dispute while the ban was still in place, and should have left another user or admin handle it. His decision to engage in an edit war and the poor choice of edit summaries show a serious lack of judgement or respect/understanding for the policies of this project. I and others see this incident as a taster of what will happen if he is let loose on AA articles again, which is why the restrictions have been made indefinite, for TheShadowCrow's good as well as the project.

As is probably already clear, I will not support lifting the block or the restrictions. However, TheShadowCrow may make an appeal Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Ban Appeals Subcommittee. Please read the entire page before lodging an appeal via e-mail. CT Cooper · talk 18:02, 2 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

That's all I needed to hear than. Regardless of whether I was wrongly banned or not, if the Admin is simply dead set against lifting the ban, there is no point in going on anymore. I do want to thank you for being the only Admin to give my appeal a real audience.
And can you do one last thing for me? Me and Yankees76 believe we both found someone guilty of socking. I was planning on reporting this shortly before I got banned. I was hoping you or someone else could look into it. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 21:16, 2 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I cannot unilaterally lift the block or restrictions once implemented anyway, although I will never say never on supporting a lifting of the restrictions when the time is right. I'm looking into this sock-puppetry case, as at first glance the claims do appear to have credibility, but it isn't blatant enough for me to go in and block immediately. I have asked another admin who has dealt with the sock-puppeteer previously for a second opinion. CT Cooper · talk 12:46, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm not as certain User38563 is BearMan and Holyfield as much as Yankees is, but I do think Holyfield and BearMan are the same person. Tell Tikiwonk that Bearman and Holyfield are the prime suspects because you put a lot of empathsis on User38563. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 17:27, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unlike wrestling and boxing, which have deep historical roots in Armenia dating back thousands of years, weightlifting rose to prominence in the mid-twentieth century of the Soviet Armenia era, during which the Soviet Union quickly became the most dominant nation in the world in the sport of weightlifting.

By the 1970s-90s, Armenian weightlifters began to play a huge role in the Soviet Union's weightlifting program. The first Olympic medalist from the Armenian SSR was Vartan Militosyan, who won a silver medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics.

Yurik Vardanyan became the first weightlifter from Armenia to win a gold medal in weightlifting at the 1980 Summer Olympics. In a dominant proformance, Vardanyan became the first ever light-heavyweight (82.5 kg) to lift a total of 400 kg in an official competition, shattering both the Olympic and world record. By contrast, middle-heavyweight gold medalist Peter Baczako (90 kg) totaled 377.5 kg and sub-heavyweight gold medalist Ota Zaremba (100 kg) totaled 395 kg.[1]

Vardanyan set the division record for a final time at the 1984 Friendship Games, an alternative the the Soviet boycotted 1984 Summer Olympics, lifting a total of 405 kg. Vardanyan's achievements have not been matched since, as the current light-heavyweight record for the now 85 kg light heavyweight category (nearby not including records set before the weightlimit change) is currently 394 kg, set by Andrei Rybakou at the 2008 Summer Olympics.[2] Vardanyan set 41 world records during his decorated career.[3]

For his accomplishments, Vardanyan earned the title Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR in 1977 and was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1985.

To this day, Vardanyan is still hailed as a hero in Armenia for his deeds in the sport of weightlifting. A stamp of Vardanyan was printed in 2010 in honor of him.[4]

Along with Vardanyan, other dominant Armenian weightlifters of the 1980s included 1980 Olympic silver medalist Yurik Sarkisyan, who set 12 world records during his career,[5] and 1988 Olympic gold medalist Oksen Mirzoyan, who set also set 12 world records during his career.[6]

At the 1992 Summer Olympics, Israel Militosyan, who perviously won a silver medal at the 1988 Oylmpics, won a gold medal in the same division. Militosyan is, to this day, the final Armenian to win an Olympic gold medal. The 1992 Olympics signaled the end of Soviet weightlifting.

--independence--

Armenia has so far set 4 four world records in weightlifting, all in the snatch. Khachatur Kyapanaktsyan set two of them. Sergo Chakhoyan set another. Militosyan, who set a snatch world record twice in 1989 under the Soviet Union, set the record again in 1994 for Armenia.[7]

Aghvan Grigoryan, who became the first Armenian Olympian to bear the flag of Armenia at the Summer Olympics in 1996, was a weightlifter.

Arsen Melikyan became the first Armenian weightlifter for the independent Republic of Armenia to win an Olympic medal, having won a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Armenian weightlifters came in first place at the 2008 European Weightlifting Championships.

Tigran Gevorg Martirosyan, Gevorg Davtyan and Tigran Vardan Martirosyan all won bronze medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics, making it the most decortated Olympics in weightlifting for Armenia to date.

Nazik Avdalyan won a gold medal at the 2009 World Weightlifting Championships and became the first weightlifter from the independent Republic of Armenia to win a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championships. Tigran Gevorg Martirosyan also won a gold medal at the 2010 World Weightlifting Championships, becoming the first male weightlifter from independent Armenia to do so.

Hripsime Khurshudyan became the first Armenian women to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting, having won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Armenian city of Gyumri is well known for producing many great weightlifters. Many of the best weightlifters from Armenia have come from the city of Gyumri, such as Vardanyan, Militosyan, Davtyan, Martirosyan and Avdalyan.

Oksen Mirzoyan later became the Head Coach of the Armenian national weightlifting team and is now the current Chairman of Armenian Weightlifting Federation.[8]

Prior to 1992, Armenians would participate in the Olympics representing the USSR. As part of the Soviet Union, Armenia was very successful, winning plenty of medals and helping the USSR win the medal standings at the Olympics on numerous occasions. The first medal won by an Armenian in modern Olympic history was by Hrant Shahinyan (sometimes spelled as Grant Shaginyan), who won two golds and two silvers in gymnastics at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. To highlight the level of success of Armenians in the Olympics, Shahinyan was quoted as saying:

Armenia contributed several more notable gymnasts to the powerful Soviet gymnastics team, including world and Olympic champions Albert Azaryan, Eduard Azaryan and Artur Akopyan.

Football edit

Armenia used to play as part of the USSR national football team at the international level. Their most successful team was Yerevan's FC Ararat, which had claimed most of the Soviet championships in the 1970s, and had also gone to post victories against professional clubs like FC Bayern Munich in the Euro Cup. Armenia played as part of the USSR until 1992, when the Armenian national football team played their first official match, representing solely Armenia, against Moldova. The national team is controlled by the Football Federation of Armenia. The Armenian Premier League is the top football competition in Armenia. The league currently consists of eight teams, and relegates to the Armenian First League. Over the years, the league has evolved from a small competition, consisting of only eight teams to two separate divisions. Armenia also has many football venues, such as the Hrazdan Stadium and Hanrapetakan Stadium.

Nikita Simonyan was a member of the Olympic gold medal winning Soviet Union national football team at the 1956 Summer Olympics and a four-time Soviet Top League and two-time Soviet Cup winner playing for FC Spartak Moscow. Simonyan also became the Soviet Top League top goalscorer three times. He also holds the record for most league goals scored for Spartak Moscow at 133. After retiring from football, he became the head coach of Spartak and later became the manager of both Spartak and FC Ararat Yerevan. Both teams won the Soviet Top League under Simonyan's management.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the current Vice-Captain of the Armenian national football team and the team's star player. Mkhitaryan has won the Armenian Premier League four times and the Armenian Supercup twice as a player for FC Pyunik. He has also been given the Armenian Footballer of the Year award twice. As of 14 November 2012, Mkhitaryan is the second top goalscorer of all time for the Armenian national team with 10 goals.

Armenia has produced many other world class players, notably Andranik Eskandarian, Andranik Teymourian, Edgar Manucharyan, Yura Movsisyan, Hamlet Mkhitaryan, Arthur Petrosyan, Sargis Hovsepyan, Roman Berezovsky among others.

Youri Djorkaeff and Alain Boghossian were both part of the 1998 FIFA World Cup winning team.

Chess edit

FIDE World Ranked #2 Levon Aronian

Chess remains the most popular mind sport in Armenia. It is widely played in Armenia, and in the Armenian diaspora, where the Armenian schools encourage it as a curricular activity. Ethnic Armenian chess players have been very successful on the international chess scene. Notable chess players of Armenia include Tigran Petrosian, Levon Aronian, Rafael Vaganian, Vladimir Akopian, Sergei Movsesian and Gabriel Sargissian. The legendary chess player Garry Kasparov is of Armenian descent.

The 1999 men team was made up of Smbat Lputian, Artashes Minasian, Ashot Anastasian, Levon Aronian and Arshak Petrosian. The 2003 women team was made up of Elina Danielian, Lilit Mkrtchian and Nelly Aginian.

Armenia won the World Team Chess Championship in 2011, against the top ten teams of the world, including Russia and China. Members of the Armenian chess team were Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian and Robert Hovhannisyan.

The Armenian Chess Team won the Olympiad title for a third time in 2012 at the Istanbul-hosted Chess Olympiad. The team consisted of Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian and Tigran L. Petrosian.

Armenia currently ranks 5th on the all-time Chess Olympiad medal table despite only competing since 1992. The nation was also a contributing power to the still #1 ranked Soviet Union. Tigran Petrosian himself is still ranked #1 for the best individual results in the open section.

Wrestling edit

Wrestling has been a successful sport in the Olympics for Armenia. Half of the twelve Armenian Olympic medalists and were wrestlers. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Armen Nazaryan won the gold in the Men's Greco-Roman Flyweight (52 kg) category, and Armen Mkrtchyan won the silver in Men's Freestyle Paperweight (48 kg) category, securing Armenia's first two medals in its modern Olympic history.

With Armenia's only gold medalist, Nazaryan, only two silver medalists, Mkrtchyan and Arsen Julfalakyan, and half of entire Olympic medalists being wrestlers, wrestling is Armenia's most successful Olympic sport.

Armenia hosted the 2010 FILA Wrestling World Cup. The Armenian wrestling team came in third place overall and Armenian wrestlers individually won three of the seven gold medals.

Traditional Armenian wrestling is called kokh, and practiced in traditional garb; it was one of the influences included in the Soviet combat sport of sambo, which is also very popular.

Weightlifting edit

Weightlifting has also been a successful sport for Armenia in the Olympics, with Arsen Melikyan winning the bronze medal in Men's middleweight (77 kg) category at the 2000 Summer Olympics, which was the independent Republic of Armenia's first Olympic medal in weightlifting. In April 2007, the Armenian national team won the 2007 European Championships in Strasbourg, with 10 gold medals.[2] Nazik Avdalyan and Tigran Gevorg Martirosyan both became World Weightlifting Champions in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Before the establishment of an independent Armenia, Armenian weightlifters like Yurik Sarkisyan, Oksen Mirzoyan and Yurik Vardanyan competed for the Soviet Union and were very successful. Vardanyan won the gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics, becoming the world's first weightlifter to achieve 400 point totals in the 82.5 kg weight category. He earned the title Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR in 1977, and was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1985. Yurik Vardanyan, Yurik Sarkisian and Oksen Mirzoyan set multiple world records during their distinguished careers.

Boxing edit

Boxing is a popular sport in Armenia. The country has regularly sent competitors to the Olympics, but met with little success.

Though Armenia has had little success in amateur boxing, the country has still produced an Olympic medalist, Hrachik Javakhyan, and a World Champion, Nshan Munchyan.

Armenian boxers have had more success in professional boxing. Vic Darchinyan and Arthur Abraham have both won world titles in different weight divisions. Susi Kentikian has also won world titles in women's boxing. Khoren Gevor is a four-time world title challenger. Vanes Martirosyan and Karo Muratyan are both rising contenders.

Rugby union edit

Rugby union is a growing sport in Armenia. The Armenia national rugby union team has drawn much of its strength from the Armenian diaspora, and the fact that there are many Armenian rugby players in France. It has also drawn strength from the popularity of rugby in neighbouring Georgia.

Other sports edit

Other sports played in Armenia are ice hockey, played internationally by the Armenian national ice hockey team, basketball (Armenian basketball website), and tennis.

The Armenian national ice hockey team is run by the Ice Hockey Federation of Armenia. They hosted the Division III, Group B tournament of the 2010 World Championships.

Sargis Sargsian is the best tennis player from Armenia. He is a three-time Olympian who won the 1997 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in singles and the 2003 Citi Open and 2003 BRD Năstase Țiriac Trophy in doubles. Certain members of the Armenian diaspora like Andre Agassi, David Nalbandian and Manuela Maleeva have excelled in the sport.

According to news published at rusbandy.ru, Armenia planned to participate in the World Bandy Championship for the first time in 2011.[3]

Organizations edit

Homenetmen and AGBU are the two biggest organizations that are devoted to athletics among Armenians. They, notably Homenetmen, have opened chapters all across the globe, wherever an Armenian community is present. Homenetmen organizes the Pan-Homenetmen Games each year, when the organization's members gather in a host city to play friendly matches against each other in various sports such as football, basketball, athletics, ice hockey, and volleyball.

Modern Rebuilding Efforts edit

The government of Armenia budgets about $2.8 million annually for sports, and gives it to the National Committee of Physical Education and Sports, the body that determines which programs should benefit from the funds.

Due to the lack of success lately on the international level, in recent years, Armenia has rebuilt 16 Soviet-era sports schools and furnished them with new equipment for a total cost of $1.9 million. The rebuilding of the regional schools was financed by the Armenian government. About $9.3 million has been invested in the resort town of Tsaghkadzor to improve the winter sports infrastructure, because of dismal performances at recent winter sports events. In 2005, a cycling center was opened in Yerevan, with the aim of helping produce world class Armenian cyclists. The government has also promised a cash reward of $700,000 to Armenians who win a gold medal at the Olympics. Rector of the Yerevan State Institute of Physical Culture Vahram Arakelian believes that Armenia will produce Olympic champions in 2016, because by that time “the work of new coaches and their influence on their trainees will be seen.”[4]

Armen Nazaryan personal life http://www.panarmenian.net/eng/news/118351/ http://www.visittobulgaria.com/sport/dir.asp?d=0-3-Wrestling-Armen_Nazaryan

Armen Nazaryan (Armenian: Արմեն Նազարյան, born March 9, 1974 in Masis, Armenian SSR, Soviet Union) is an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler who later represented Bulgaria. Nazaryan is a six-time European champion (1994, 1995 , 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003), a three-time world champion (2002, 2003, 2005) and a two-time Olympic champion (1996, 2000). He was recognized by the FILA as the best fighter of the year in 1998 and 2003. In 2007, Nazaryan was inducted as a member of the FILA Hall of Fame.

Biography edit

Nazaryan was born on March 9, 1974 in Masis, Armenian SSR. He started wrestling at the age of eight under the coaching of Robert Nersesyan.

In 1993, Nazaryan became a Youth Wrestling World Champion and won a silver medal at the senior 1993 World Wrestling Championships. This marked the debut of Armenia in the FILA Wrestling World Championships. Nazaryan had won the first ever medal for the independent Republic of Armenia at the Wrestling World Championships.

The following year, Nazaryan won a gold medal at the 1994 Wrestling European Championships. Nazaryan became the first Wrestling European Champion from independent Armenia in the country's debut in the FILA Wrestling European Championships. Nazaryan also became a 1993 Youth Wrestling European Champion. Turning 21 in the coming year, Nazaryan would soon become no longer eligible to compete in youth tournaments and competed as a senior from then on.

Nazaryan repeated both the Wrestling European Championships gold medal and Wrestling World Championships silver medal in 1995, the former making him only the second Wrestling European Champion from Armenia. Because of his international success, Nazaryan was eligible to compete at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Both Armen and his country made their debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Already a decorated sportsman, Nazaryan was one of the gold medal favorites of the competition in his weight class. He won a landslide victory in all five fights, defeating reigning Wrestling World Champion Samvel Danielyan (who defeated Nazaryan at the 1995 World Championships final) in the quarterfinals and home country favorite Brandon Paulson in the finals. Nazaryan became an Olympic gold medalist, the first ever Armenian athlete to become an Olympic Champion under the country's flag.

Over a year later, Nazaryan became a citizen of Bulgaria and began participating in international competitions for this country instead of his native Armenia. Many Armenians expressed great disappointment in their only Olympic Champion changing countries. Nazaryan would later state, “I love my country and I have always done the utmost for it. However, after I became an Olympic champion, our government didn’t appreciate me. I was offered to return to Armenia only in 2001, but my demands remained unsatisfied.”[5]

Following the 1996 Olympics, Nazaryan moved up from the flyweight (52 kg) weight class to the heavier featherweight (58 kg) division. Nazaryan became a Wrestling European Champion in 1998 and 1999 in this new weight class. He had, however, been unable to win a Wrestling World Championship, coming in third place at every World Championship leading up to the 2000 Summer Olympics. Nazaryan had also lost his European Championship in 2000, just months before the Olympics that year.

Nazaryan had successfully advanced to the finals at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, where he faced the larger, taller and reigning Wrestling World Champion Kim In-Sub. In-Sub scored a stand-up takedown (0-3) in less than thirty seconds into the match. Nazaryan quickly got on top of In-Sub and both men were ordered to get up by the referee. A period of inactivity followed, with both wrestlers struggling to overcome the other in the clinch. The referee soon ordered for them to go on the mat, with Nazaryan in the top position. After much effort, Nazaryan successfully lifted In-Sub up overhead and scored a full takedown (5-3). Nazaryan than scored another takedown by lifting up In-Sub and turning him over (6-3) and than scored an exposre (9-3) by pinning In-Sub to the mat and finishing him via fall. Nazaryan had now become a two-time Olympic gold medalist.[6]

After defending his Olympic Championship, Nazaryan moved up in weight again, this time to lightweight (60 kg). Nazaryan had a very successful 2002 and 2003, becoming a Wrestling World Champion and Wrestling European Champion in both years. It had seemed Nazaryan might become one of only a few people to become three-time Olympic Champions in wrestling, but this would not be the case. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, Nazaryan was defeated by eventuall Olympic gold medalist Jung Ji-Hyun in the semifinals. Nazaryan did, however, defeat Aleksey Shevtsov in the bronze medal match to win the Olympic bronze medal, Nazaryan's third and final Olympic medal.

Despite the Olympic upset, Nazaryan managed to win his third Wrestling World Championship gold medal in 2005. Nazaryan next competed at the 2006 Wrestling World Championships, where he was defeated in the first round in a poor performance. Nazaryan made a comeback at the 2008 European Wrestling Championships, where he came in second place, thus qualifiying for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Although he defeated reigning Wrestling World Champion David Berdinadze in the first round, Nazaryan competed without medal success. Nazaryan has not competed since the 2008 Olympics.

After two to three years of inactivity, Nazaryan returned to sports to attempt to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics.[7] However, after recieving an injury, Nazaryan was forced to abandon any hopes of returning to the Olympics.

On November 23, 2012, Nazaryan became the head coach of the Bulgarian national Greco-Roman wrestling team.[8] When asked if he wouldn't like to coach the Armenian national Greco-Roman wrestling team, Nazaryan praised the coaching of the Armenian national Greco-Roman wrestling head coach Levon Julfalakyan as doing everything to give good results.[9] Nazaryan also expressed a desire for the Armenian and Bulgarian wrestling teams to practice together.[10]

Personal life edit

Armen is married to Inga Nazaryan. He has two sons and one daughter.

Hi. So, I started working on 'Boxing in Armenia' article. I just noticed that you've written the history of weightlifting in Armenia on your talk page. Should I copy-paste it to the article? Are you done with it?

Also, please check your e-mail. --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 21:11, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah I saw. It looks good. And I don't think that's such a good idea because it will look like I'm trying to cheat my ban. It's not done anyways, I still need to add sources. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 21:15, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Alright. --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 22:46, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Are Vic Darchinyan and Arthur Abraham the only champions in any of the 4 boxing championships (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO)?

And do you know from what year to what year and in which weight categories they held those titles?--Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 22:57, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah. Unless you include Artur Grigorian, though he's from Uzbekistan. I've seen some sources say he was born in the Artsakh Republic though. Other than him, it's just Darchinyan and Abraham. You also might want to mention Susianna Kentikian.

And World Amateur Boxing Championships are the world champions of amateur boxing. You might want to make two different Content main topics for amateur and professional boxing.

You might also want to add the Boxing World Cup. Andranik Hakobyan won it in 2008. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 23:12, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'll do that. But did Darchinyan and Abraham won their titles under the Armenian flag? Are they considered officially Armenian or German and Australian? --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 23:20, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Darchinyan is definitly fighting under the Armenian flag, yes. Abraham I don't know for sure, sources are very varied on that. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 23:35, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Do you know where can I find the sources the Weightlifting World and European Champions? --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 22:40, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! In the first article it says " Gevorg Gharibyan (55 kg) of Armenia defeated Russian Harut Sargsyan (who is obviously Armenian).", but it doesn't say what happened to him him later. --Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 23:32, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Isn't there someone named Ukrainian Gor Hovhannisyan? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 23:57, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Gor Hovhannisyan isn't mentioned in those two articles and I also googled his name in Armenian, there doesn't seem to be one.--Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 01:03, 22 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Alright. There's a few thing's I'd like to add and change, so I'll do that when I can and you tell me if you like the change or not.

Also, I've been looking at websites for Armen Nazaryan (the wrestler) and have been having problems finding out where he was born. Some places say Masis, others say Gyumri. Do you know which is true? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 01:54, 25 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good, but make sure you do it before November 29, because I wanna make it a "Did you know" article which requires the article to be nominated in 5 days after its creation. I'm sure Nazaryan was born in Masis. First, because I've heard him speaking and he doesn't speak the Gyumri dialect, which is very easy to point out. Second, the Russian wiki says that some sources mistakenly indicate Gyumri as his birthplace. So, Masis it is.--Երևանցի ասելիք կա՞ 02:51, 25 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
