Speedy deletion of The Famous Peter

edit

A tag has been placed on The Famous Peter requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you.  Ravenswing  18:03, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at The Famous Peter. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:52, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Restoring a deleted article to one's userpage

edit

It is not considered appropriate to restore a deleted article, especially an autobiographical or COI one, to one's user page. I don't want to just hang a deletion tag on your user page, so I'm letting you know that you need to take that stuff off. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:44, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have nominated Daily.co.uk, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Daily.co.uk. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Speedy deletion of Daily.co.uk

A tag has been placed on Daily.co.uk, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

Wigan

edit

You mentioned here that you might be able to take some photos around Wigan, is there any chance you could take one of the Tyldesley Monument (something like this). Also, one of the exterior of the JJB stadium, taking in as much of it as possible would be very useful. I'm not familiar with Wigan, but any photos of landmarks you think are notable would be greatly appreciated (is there a large shopping centre in Wigan? Something that could go in the economy section). Happy editing. Nev1 (talk) 01:24, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Any chance of one of Wigan Town Hall? Nev1 (talk) 23:01, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for offering to take some pictures, I think it would improve the article. I don't think the addition of Uncle Joe's Mint Balls to the culture section is notable. As I'm sure you can see, I've been working a lot on the article, removing unencyclopedic information and adding references. Once I'd pared away the information on UJMB under culture all I was left with was "Uncle Joe's Mint balls are regarded as part of Wigan culture and tradition by residents and visitors alike[citation needed]", so I just got rid of it. If it's to be included, it needs to assert why it's important, what tradition is it involved in etc. I think it should be mentioned in economy section, but disagree it deserves a place under culture. Any luck with the photos? (You said to drop you a note after a week) Nev1 (talk) 21:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
