This is the talk page for the Baird arts. Please direct your comments here. If you are referencing edits to the south orange township wiki, specifically the Local Arts section. please explain your issue and I will explain why the edit is being made. The Baird Center is home to the South Orange rec and cultural arts dept. THERE is no COI in the posting, other than SOPAC is prominently featured and its references also contain COI and that has not seemed to a problem for them. so why is it a problem here. CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THAT!

RE edit

First, welcome to Wikipedia. Now, it is indeed a conflict of interest ( see Wikipedia:COI ) when the editor of the topic is also associated with, let's say the company he/she is writing about, which your user name suggests.

BTW: I have no interest in any other topics than tropical cyclones. I'm a recent changes patroller, that's how I found your edit ( see recent changes patroller )

  • As Alansohn already pointed out, Quote: " your username indicates that you are associated with the center, which raises issues regarding potential conflict with Wikipedia policy regarding conflicts of interest ", plus it was just copied and then pasted from the source. This is a violation of Wikipedia's policies (Copyright). As Alansohn already pointed out: You can bring the content back, but in your own words, neutral tone and backed up with reliable sources.

    • The best idea would be to discuss this matter at the article's talk page

South Orange edits edit

Your recent edit reinserted material regarding the arts in South Orange, New Jersey. The material is non-encyclopedic, is promotional in nature and was copied straight from the source in violation of Wikipedia copyright policy. The material can be reinserted into the article, as long as it is written in your own words, is backed up by reliable and verifiable sources about the organization(s) and is written in a neutral and non-promotional tone. Your username indicates that you are associated with the center, which raises issues regarding potential conflict with Wikipedia policy regarding conflicts of interest. Please feel free to reach me on my talk page with any questions. Alansohn (talk) 19:46, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate your frustration and I hope that you understand that Wikipedia policies are designed to maintain a consistent standard across all articles. I agree that the material regarding SOPAC included content that was also promotional in nature. I edited the article, rewording material about The Baird and Pierro Gallery using the sources you had provided and other material that had already been in the article, in addition to cleaning up the content regarding SOPAC. Please review the changes and use that as a starting point for any further edits, if necessary. As far as I know, what is in the article now is written in my own words using the sources as a basis. If appropriate, add material that is in your own words, summarizing the material in the sources and writing in a neutral point of view about The Baird / Pierro Gallery (or anything else) in non-promotional fashion. Again, feel free to reach me on my talk page with any questions. Alansohn (talk) 21:50, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 20:04, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Yunshui  13:36, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
