Speedy deletion nomination of Fitness Direct edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fitness Direct requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.    Thorncrag  18:16, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fitness Direct Deletion edit

Please edit this so we can discuss how to make http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitness_Direct Wikipedia-friendly.

Thanks.

Hi Thanouncer, sorry about the trouble you've had creating this article. First let me state that articles get reviewed in very short order upon creation, and articles are expected to meet criteria upon publishing or they may be subject to deletion. This is what happened with your article. Specifically, your article was deleted because it was presented in such a way that it read only like a promotion (see: guidelines on advertisement). This is a somewhat gray area, because it is often difficult to write articles about a company that sells products without it appearing promotional. One way to easily overcome this problem is if the company is notable and to document that notability by including references to third-party reliable sources within the article. Personally, I do not know if Fitness Direct is a notable company or if it has been covered by third-party sources, but this needs to be asserted within the article with topics in the article that go beyond the products and services the company provides. I hope this helps. Please see the policy pages I've linked, if you need any additional information feel free to reply here on your talk page, or you may use the {{helpme}} tag on this page to grab the attention of a helper. Cheers.    Thorncrag  19:55, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey Thorncrag, first, thank you for your reply! I had a feeling it was because I didn't have 3rd party sources of information. I appreciate your response and will dig up some news stories to add in. Can I recreate the page in the Sandbox and maybe you could take a look at it and let me know what I need to change? Again, I appreciate your help with this! Thanks!

Sure, you could recreate it at User:Thanouncer/Sandbox.    Thorncrag  20:09, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
