editing - Year of the Mouse

Hi,

Got your message: "I understand if you dislike this Chinese year to be called "Year of the Rat" instead of "Mouse". I personally also prefer Mouse, or better yet, "Rodent". (We can get too, too PC though.) But you are going about it in the wrong way. --tess (talk) 01:40, 8 February 2008 (UTC)"

I'm new here. I was just trying to let people know that the translation was inaccurate, it is really Year of the Mouse, not Rat. What's the right way to go about it?

Thanks a lot.

Year of the Mouse -------- 十二生肖的选择

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

“Year of the Mouse” represents the original meaning better about 生肖. If you go to some Chinese sites about 十二生肖的选择, many say it's because that 虎、兔、猴、鼠、蛇 是与人的日常、社会生活有着密切关系的动物; 牛、羊、马、猪、狗、鸡,是人类为了经济或其它目的而驯养的动物; 龙是中华民族的象征.

Mouse 是与人的日常、社会生活有着密切关系的动物, 有人之處就會有老鼠(mouse), but not rat. When we grew up, we never saw a rat.

This is why we think the translation of “Year of the Rat” is inaccurate. It should be “Year of the Mouse”.

So we would appreciate it if you could help to spread the words.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hqlother (talkcontribs) 23:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

to apologise for ruining an editing work by you on 7th february

sir/lady ! I had added director "Hector Babenco" to the list of births on 7th february and I also mentioned one of his famous films. later I saw that you have done some editing work on the film title but I deleted it completely.
the reason is that recently I had problems about mentioning the titles of 2 of director Dziga Vertov films on the list of 12th february births. user:mufka argued that it is not common to mention directors films in calendar lists. I eventually deleted both of them in spite of my wish and although I assume it irreasonable.
I insist on doing the same for Babenco. because a descrimination in favour of Babenco and against Vertov is un-expectable.
I write this long "talk" to you to apologise for ruining your editing work and also to use this oppurtunity to inform somebody about my complains for arbitrary and un-written regulations on calendar pages.it may be useful in the future. thank you :D

Vera Katz and History

Howdy folks, its time for another installment of WikiProject Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week! Last week we made some improvements to the Oregon Coast and brought The Register-Guard up to B class while garnering a DYK! Great job to those who lent a hand. This week we finish up the High priority Stubs with former mayor and Speaker of the House, Vera Katz, which is pretty much a Start class now and could easily get to B class. We also have History of Oregon by request. Help out if you can, where you can. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Elected Oregon

Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks and entities. Thanks to those who helped out with improving Vera Katz and History of Oregon during the last Collaboration of the Week! As you may have noticed, we have changed the banners a bit, but not our dedication to everything Oregon! This week, in honor of the political process, we have: Current Oregon Senate members & Current Oregon House members. Hopefully by November we can have an article on every current member of the Oregon Legislature. So feel free to turn a red link blue or expand an existing article. Since it is an election year, there should be plenty of newspaper stories. Plus, the state archives has this site that allows you to go back and see when they started serving and district info, plus at a minimum show they were a state legislator from a WP:RS. And per WP:BIO, all state legislator's are notable so no need to worry about AFD. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Juxtaposition COTW

Howdy Ho WikiProject Oregon! Time for another installment of Collaboration of the Week. The last few weeks we’ve knocked out quite a few articles of our current state legislators, and even a few former ones too. Great job to all those who helped make it happen. On a related note, we have had several DYKs from this and now have 53 DYKs so far this year (not counting multiples), less than four full months into the year. Last year we had a total of 83 DYKs for the entire year, and 7 combined for 2006 & 2005. So we are well on our way to another record year. Each time an article makes it to the main page as a DYK it will typically get an extra 1000 hits, which is usually far more than the typical 100 hits per month most minor articles receive. With that said, this week we have two requests, Portland Lumberjax and Silicon Forest. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Cinco de COTW

Greetings once again from the Collaboration of the Week at WikiProject Oregon. Thank you to those who helped out with the last set of articles. This week we have the lone Stub class article left in the Top importance classification, Flag of Oregon, and by request, Detroit Lake. Help where you can, if you can. Zzzz Oregon COTW

Howdy ya’ll, time for another Collaboration of the Week from WikiProject Oregon. Last week we improved Flag of Oregon & Detroit Lake, enough I think to move them to Start class, so great job everyone! This week, we have another request in Oregon Ballot Measure 47 and a randomly selected two sentence stub that should be easy to expand enough for a DYK in Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. List of Oregon State Parks

Before you change the list, please see the extensive discussion on the talk page. By my reasoning there, I believe Wallowa Lake is now called a rec area, but if you think it's a state park, please remove the duplicate entry. There aren't two separate facilities. Thanks! Katr67 (talk) 21:11, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I saw in the Oregon Parks and Recreation site [1] that its seems more often called "State Park". I'll research some more. Meanwhile, I've undid my change. --Tesscass (talk) 21:35, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
That's my point--the website isn't up-to-date, and the name was recently changed. You might ask User:NE2 about it, he's probably already done the research. Katr67 (talk) 22:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

QWERTY: Oregon COTW

Hello WikiProject Oregon participants, time for another edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week we made some great improvements to Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and Oregon Ballot Measure 47 (1996), with a DYK for the forest. Great job everyone! This week we have another stub, George Lemuel Woods, one of only two governor stubs left, and should be an easy job getting it to Start class. Then, in honor of the long weekend, we have our second State Park Article Creation Drive. Lots of red links to turn blue, lots of opportunities for DYKs. Help if you can, even if it is only adding pictures of state parks. To opt out of these messages, leave your name here, or click here to make a suggestion. May the The Schwartz be with you. X marks the WPOR COTW spot

Guten Tag WikiProject Oregon team members! Great job last week with the Collaboration of the Week, we improved George Lemuel Woods and added eleven new state park articles. This past week we also surpassed the 6000 article mark as a project. The weather may suck, but WPORE is not. For this week we have by request Music of Oregon and Phil Knight. Both need some help, and with Knight we might be able to improve it to GA standards. Once again, to opt out of these messages, leave your name here, or click here to make a suggestion. A is for Apple at COTW

Hello again to those of the WikiProject we call Oregon. Time for another edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week there was some good improvements to Music of Oregon and Phil Knight, great job everyone. This week, by request is the Applegate Trail, which is short enough to easily conjure up a DYK. Then, I’m trying something a little different, with the Portland State stuff. We included the two high profile schools during Civil War week last year, so now its time for the younger sibling that gets no respect to get some attention. After all, it is the largest college in the state. Feel free to help with whatever aspects you like, though to help with some ideas I added some to the article talk page. Greeting once again WikiProject Oregon Folks. Time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week. First, thank you to those who helped out on the last few COTWs. This week we have the soon to open Westside Express Service, formerly the Washington County Commuter Rail, so lets see if we can get it up to WPORE standards. Thanks for putting the {{dn}} template on the SS Zeeland article. I didn't know that there was such a template for marking terms like that and will use it in the future. Halle & Irving

Hi, re your query about which Halle David Irving spoke at. According to searchlight http://www.searchlightmagazine.com/index.php?link=template&story=79 "In November 1991, at Halle, eastern Germany, Irving delivered what he called a “rabble rousing” speech to a neo-nazi rally." My knowledge of German geography is a tad limited but does this narrow things sufficiently for you to disambig it? Jonathan Cardy (talk) 23:01, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes. That means it would be Halle, Saxony-Anhalt. Thank you. --Tesscass (talk) 23:10, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Kuljeric

Hi Tess: your correciton of Zagreb Academy of Music to University of Zagreb's Music Academy is not the best choice. While technically correct, both the industry practice and the name of the institutions show preference to former name. U. of Zagreb's Music Academy give the reader the message that this is a secondary school (preparatory division); Croatians likewise prefer Zagreb Academy of Music. (Romulusmusicum (talk) 23:48, 11 August 2008 (UTC))

I have no in depth knowledge of this, except for having admired Kuljeric's music after learning to sing his Croation Mass in the U.S. I'm merely trying to wikify the article. I'll rephrase it. --Tesscass (talk) 00:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Tess for both the correciton and for the warning about the verbatum quote of Kuljeric's biography. You are right, it is exactly the same. However, I am the author of both the material on IMCA's website (listed on the External links) and the Wikipedia article. Since I am new to this, does this self-borrowing present a problem? Please advise. Thanks (Romulusmusicum (talk) 02:54, 12 August 2008 (UTC))

Self borrowing probably isn't a problem. You'll have to list where you got the material from, and/or that you give wikipedia persmission to publish this material. But I'm not an expert on copyright issues. See here: Wikipedia:Copyrights and its related links for more info. --Tesscass (talk) 17:17, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

1 Year of the Collaboration of the Week

Hello again to those of WikiProject Oregon. It is time again for another Collaboration of the Week. The last two weeks were a Stub Improvement Drive, and thank you to those who improved any Stubs.

This week marks the one week anniversary of the COTW, so a brief highlight reel:

  • At least 10 DYKs
  • Three articles passed GA after being listed at COTW
  • Probably around 25 articles started
  • Almost all Top importance articles are now better than Stub class

And now on with our countdown. This week we have two requests, the Willamette Meteorite and Tom McCall. Hopefully we can get both to GA quality. Click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Thank you. Aboutmovies (talk) 09:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Lang (surname)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Lang (surname), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Lang. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:17, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Should these be tagged for cleanup? I think overlinking items in name pages is just as unhelpful as if it were a real dab. Thoughts? Please reply on your talk page, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:36, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Ssssh, Be Very Very Quiet, its Oregon COTW time

Howdy folks, its time for this week’s edition of Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week. First off, great job the last two weeks with Greg Oden & the Hospital red link drive. We had close to ten new hospital articles and two DYKs ( ) plus other improvements to the list itself. So thank you to those who helped out. This week, we have on a sad note Kevin Duckworth, and the Statesman Journal. Duckworth should have plenty of sources so hopefully in tribute we can get his article up to standards. Blue Mountains

I have put the "List of Blue Mountains topics" back where it was on the Blue Mts disambig. page. The whole idea of having the list of Blue Mts articles was that people would go to the dis. page and would then go to the Blue Mts page, and would have a list of all the articles at their fingertips, so they can see what's there and take their pick, instead of stabbing in the dark. That was the whole idea of having a list of Blue Mts articles. When that list is there, there's no need to have the "Blue Mountains (Australia)" link on the dis page at all, because it's on the list.
