Hi! I have hard time coming up with evidence that Smushkevich was an ace from what I saw he was not allowed to engage while in Spain while he violated that rule I can't see evidence that he had more than five victories. While I think that he was extremely important to aerial campaign in Spanish Civil War, I don't think that he was an ace. Milik (talk) 17:06, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi! I'm wondering why you removed Category:Heroes of the Soviet Union from Ivan Flyorov while the text states that "Flyorov was awarded Hero of the Soviet Union on June 21, 1991". -- Timberframe (talk) 12:22, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- He is not a "Heroes of the Soviet Union". He is a "Heroes of the Russian Federation". It is a different titles. And not in 1991.--Technis (talk) 12:27, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Looking back through the history of the article I see it used to say 1995 until this diff in 2006, but from the beginning it said "Hero of the Soviet Union" which was impossible in 1995, so the article has been wrong for a long time! Hi Technis. Thank you so much for your kind help, adding his patronym in Russian to The Evgeny Belyaev page. As you can no doubt tell, I'm having to do all this research without being able to read Russian or Japanese, yet most of the online sources are in those languages. So until now (re the Alexandrov Ensemble soloists page) I have had to wait until the soloists' names in Russian turn up, then copy and paste them. I'm hoping in due course to put in all the songnames in Russian, so people like yourself can double-check it all if they want to - but it's a long job. Meanwhile I suspect a lot of the songtitles are duplicated on the Alexandrov Ensemble soloists and Evgeny Belyaev pages because they've been variously translated on different records/CDs in different countries over 7 decades.
I hope you don't mind - I have a tantalising translation question for you. You may have noticed that I have been struggling to discover the fate of Victor Nikitin, a much-admired young tenor soloist who recorded songs 1939-1951 then suddenly stopped - with no further mention of his fate. Since he was described as a "young man" as late as 1948, I'm wildly guessing he might have been around 33 when his career met this sudden stop in 1951. I'm not asking you to do any research for me of course - but there is a paragraph in Russian which may give a small clue. Google Translate Tool gives me this inadequate translation:
"This interpretation of concerts Boris Alexandrov, his improvisations during the tour, a respectful attitude towards the German classical music, bold Nikitina considerable cost price. Boris A. won tsekovsko-glavpurovskoy reproach. A V. Nikitin was for many years in the opal. Recently, the Germans have set a modest monument to the repressed group of Soviet soldiers who refused to shoot in the summer of 1953, the Berliners. I think the event is the summer of 1948 in the heart of Berlin, too, should be revived in the memory of the German public. And first among them - a significant phenomenon of art from the ashes of Berlin."
The original Russian paragraph is as follows:
Такая трактовка концертов Б.Александровым, его импровизации по ходу гастролей, уважительное отношение к немецкой музыкальной классике, вольности В.Никитина стоили немалой цены. Борис Александрович удостоился цэковско-главпуровской укоризны. А В.Никитин оказался на долгие годы в опале. Недавно немцы установили скромный памятник группе репрессированных советских солдат, отказавшихся стрелять в берлинцев летом 1953 года. Думаю, событие лета 1948 года в самом центре Берлина должно тоже возродиться в памяти немецкой общественности. И первое среди них - знаковое явление искусства на пепелищах Берлина.
The source of the above paragraph is here. The background to the story is that the Alexandrov Ensemble did a Peace Concert in Berlin shortly after WW2 and Nikitin, full of compassion, wanted to sing songs in German for the audience. He had to argue with his commanders until they allowed him to do this. I am wondering if the paragraph above is trying to say that Nikitin got into trouble for singing in German?
If you're too busy, please ignore my question - I quite understand. But if you are interested in this matter, I would very much like to know what the paragraph says.
