ChinaWiki edit

Hello!

Thanks for the invitation. I passed it on to my students today and they were quite enthused.

If nothing else, I (the instructor) will certainly be back to help out with your planned improvements to the various Chinese articles in the system.

Proposed deletion of China Youthology edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article China Youthology, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Notability not demonstrated, apparent WP:ADVERT

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Fayenatic (talk) 23:11, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kevin Paul edit

I've removed the {{db-nonsense}} tag you placed on Kevin Paul. This article is not patent nonsense. It's written coherently, and since Kevin Paul's a Paralympics gold medalist, he easily passes WP:BIO and WP:ATHLETE. Please be more careful when you tag articles for speedy deletion. If this article did not assert notability, the suitable tag would be {{db-bio}}, but in this case, since Kevin Paul meets the notability guidelines, the article should be kept. Just a friendly reminder! Thanks, Cunard (talk) 05:43, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Shanghai University of Finance and Economics edit

It would be useful if you had explained in your edit summary why you made a huge reversal of the edit to Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. It would also have been civil if you had notified the editor of your revert and why you made it. Little Red Riding Hoodtalk 21:17, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Copyright problem: Sichuan Agricultural University edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Sichuan Agricultural University, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.foreignercn.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=8&Itemid=93&limitstart=90, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), versions 1.3 or later then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Sichuan Agricultural University saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I just wanted to add that while an article on this school would be very nice, the site from which a good portion of the article is directly copied is clearly reserved, Copyright © 2007 - 2008 外国人在中国 . Unless permission is verified, we cannot duplicate text from that site except as provided by our non-free content guidelines. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:07, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
The website I used was http://202.115.176.32/web/wsb/english/english.htm Techfast50 (talk) 01:18, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, there's nothing there to indicate that the material is free for use. Even if you copied it from a different site, the site identified clearly predates the publication of the material here, which is legally all that matters unless we are able to prove that they copied it from a site that release it into public domain or under GFDL. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:32, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I tried to change it now. Techfast50 (talk) 01:35, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It's usually better to change it in a subpage, but perhaps it'll be sufficient. I'll go have a look. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:37, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think that's probably good enough, since most of what you've got there is basic fact with little creativity to the text. I have revised minimally to further separate it from the source. What's important to remember is that because Wikipedia is bound by United States copyright law, we operate under the presumption that everything previously published is copyrighted unless we can prove it isn't. We can use external sources as basis for facts, but we have to put it all in our own language. Sometimes, we may quote brief bits of text as long as put those quotes in quotation marks and note where they came from. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:41, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

December 2008 edit

Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Pearl farming industry in China. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Your article incorporates text copied directly from http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/china/article5209366.ece Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:14, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Which sentence? Techfast50 (talk) 01:15, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Most of the article was copied. This is the old version of the article. The problem begins with the 2nd sentence, which with the exception of your changing "last year" to "in 2007" is copied directly from that source. The sentence that followed was also copied directly from the source. In the final sentence, you duplicated the phrases "pearl necklaces in the world originate" and "where production has multiplied over the" (replacing "the past decade" from the source with "1990s to 2000s"). We must rewrite completely in our own language, except where the use of text meets WP:NFC, in which case we must use quotation marks and attribute. Extensive use of quotations are forbidden. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:29, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
With respect to the new sentence that you've added to the article, it's good that you've provided attribution, but you aren't using quotation marks. This is essential if you want to duplicate material from other source. It must be copied exactly, set off by quotation marks and attributed. That text is otherwise not free for use, as it is "Copyright © 2008 the International Herald Tribune All rights reserved". --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:36, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I try to remember. Techfast50 (talk) 01:46, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: The Grand Master edit

Hi, unfortunately there is nothing I can do to improve this article. The problem is that the film hasn't begun shooting yet, and Wikipedia policy is not to have pages for future films unless principle photography has begun. The article can be recreated when that happens. Tryptofeng (talk) 14:40, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of ChinaRen edit

A tag has been placed on ChinaRen, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a foreign language article that was copied and pasted from another Wikimedia project, or was transwikied out to another project. Please see Wikipedia:Translation to learn about requests for, and coordination of, translations from foreign-language Wikipedias into English.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. bdodo1992 (talk) 21:35, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Economics census edit

Hello there. Sorry to bother you, but you are (titularly at least) a member of WP:WikiProject Economics, as defined by this category. If you don't know me, I'm a Wikipedia administrator, but an unqualified economist. I enjoy writing about economics, but I'm not very good at it, which is why I would like to support in any way I can the strong body of economists here on Wikipedia. I'm only bothering you because you are probably one of them. Together, I'd like us to establish the future direction of WikiProject Economics, but first, we need to know who we've got to help.

Whatever your area of expertise or level of qualification, if you're interested in helping with the WikiProject (even if only as part of a larger commitment to this wonderful online encyclopedia of ours), would you mind adding your signature to this page? It only takes a second. Thank you.

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:06, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of SYNDA Information Industry edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on SYNDA Information Industry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
