2011 hurricane season edit

Good job editing the 2011 hurricane season page. We'll have to settle for the other page (even that might be taken down), but You can vote in regards to the other one here -- Eddie

The other page was deleted (too bad nobody read it). If You're going to make the page again, I advise You wait, for now You should vote for undeletion on the other page.

ALL hurricane-related articles edit

While many of your edits to hurricane-related articles are in good faith, they get reverted very, very quickly. What I suggest is that if you need to change the hurricane-related pages, run your changes by a hurricane editor (RattleMan, AySz88, myself or Golbez). Image copyright edit

Tcatron565, I notice that you are uploading a number of pictures once again. You had previously been warned about this because of the number of times you violated copyright. I strongly encourage you to ask other editors about the image you plan to upload prior to just uploading them. That was the determination of the RfC. I'm quite happy to help you out with these copyright issues. I'm sure others are as well. But I am concerned that you seem to be falling back into old habits. --Yamla 17:56, 18 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

It would help with images if you specified the particular URL where you grabbed the image from. Amazon's terms of use/copyright policies are at this location (well, for Canada anyway. It specifically notes that images are copyright Amazon or the content supplier. What that means is that Amazon or someone else owns the copyright and that no license is given for us (that is, Wikipedia) to reuse it. Now, it isn't quite as simple as that. Book covers, for example, are considered fair use in many situations. But as a general rule, you should not use anything you find on Amazon. In fact, as a general rule, you should not use any image you find anywhere on the Internet unless the site specifically gives you permission. Pictures that you take yourself are a different matter. Generally, you own the copyright on any picture that you take yourself. As always, it isn't as straightforward as that
Please please ask if you want me to explain any part of that or if you have questions on any part. Copyright and fair use are not easy concepts to grasp. But if you follow the general rule, you'll probably be okay. As to the picture on my user page, a fellow editor gave it to me. Very nice, I agree. I have to remember to thank him or her. --Yamla 03:33, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

The content of your user space edit

I'm afraid that you will have to get rid of all of the "fun" pages that have nothing to do with contributing to Wikipedia that you have created within your user space (User talk:Tcatron565/Hilary Duff Charts and User talk:Tcatron565/Top 50's 2006 Hits, for example). Per Wikipedia:User page, your user page is not a personal homepage, and Wikipedia is not a free host, blog, or webspace provider. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 23:10, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I "have" User:Extraordinary Machine/Sandbox, which I use to develop articles without having my edits instantly "go live". This is completely different from writing pages and pages of material that has nothing to do with contributing to Wikipedia. Please either redirect the pages to your user page or list them at WP:MFD, or I will be forced to do so myself. Extraordinary Machine 02:14, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
User talk page archives are permitted at Wikipedia:Talk pages, as in most cases the discussions contained within them are related to Wikipedia (in fact archiving talk pages is both customary and useful; see Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page). I don't see why you are being so hostile. I'm not trying to be your enemy or annoy you or make you mad, despite what you may think. But whether you like it or not, Wikipedia has policies and guidelines that users are expected to abide to. Time and time again you have chosen to ignore them, and because of your behaviour you became the subject of a request for comment not very long ago. This is not negotiable; either you get rid of those pages, or I'm listing them at WP:MFD. Thank you. Extraordinary Machine 02:27, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Tcatron, do it. Either redirect, or put them up for speedy deletion as user request, or MFD. Read WP:NOT as well. If you don't do it, then there will be others who will do it. And when that happens, don't remove the MFD tag, or you will get blocked. NSLE (T+C) 02:30, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
It is NOT allowed. We're not a free web provider, or a blog. We're here to build an encyclopedia. The only thing on my user space is my sandbox, and my awards page - barnstars I've received from others. You will have to do it, or we'll do it for you. NSLE (T+C) 02:42, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, fun subpages are not allowed. Merging into userpage is also not recommended, but I see no wrong with that, so okay. But why will it take so long? If it takes so long, we'll be glad to do it for you - the sooner the subpages go, the better. NSLE (T+C) 02:47, 11 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Episode lists can have links to episode articles, yes, but that is not strictly what they are for. They can also have brief episode descriptions for each episode. Most of the episode descriptions you deleted did have their own page, but were merged with the episode list. Look here, here and here. All of those pages were voted on, and the verdict was to merge them with the episode list. - Nights Not End 04:28, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Most Wanted (Hilary Duff album) edit

Unsourced "song meanings" are a violation of Wikipedia's no original research policy; I have removed them. In a previous message on my talk page, you wrote: "it seems like everytime I make a wrong move, you're all up in my face! It's like you're watching my back. Please, when I do something wrong, wait for 4 days, then tell me". I'm not "watching your back" (although Wikipedia does permit users to track an editor's contributions if they are repeatedly making mistakes), but when you violate one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines I'm not going to just clean up after you (sorry, but that's exactly what myself and other editors have been doing) without asking you not to do it again just because you don't want me to. Various users have pointed out specific problems with your edits many times, directed you to the appropriate policy and guideline pages (including WP:CITE) many times, and you continue to make the same mistakes as before. You can't just expect to be left alone (for four or however many days) to continue to do whatever you please. Also, please restore User talk:Tcatron565 as if somebody edits there you are automatically notified of a new message, but not it is left on a subpage like this one. Image Tagging Image:Tsrcast.jpg edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Tsrcast.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Dethomas 02:06, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Category:Hilary Duff edit

The article is a list of albums. It's not a page pertaining specifically to Hilary Duff, or any one artist, or else every artist mentioned on that page would have their own category link at the bottom. If anything, the Hilary Duff article should have a "see also" link on it. Read up on the MoS regarding how categories are used before you use your "DUH!" attitude on my talk page; it's rude. -- eo 21:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I understand the desire to create all the categories, but most artists simply do not need their own category. Since Hilary Duff does have her own, it makes sense to place all articles about her (her albums, her singles, etc) into a category to keep them contained, but a category isn't used to link every article within Wikipedia that happens to mention her name. Same goes for any artist. -- eo 21:49, 25 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Now That's What I Call Music! Number 1's edit

Regarding this article, I removed your link to Now That's What I Call Music! 21 (U.S. series). That article has been AfD-voted against *twice*(!... once is enough), and hence speedy-deleted. The reasons for deletion will no longer apply when it is actually released, but until then, please do not link to such articles.

The article has been turned into a redirect rather than simply deleted to discourage creation at present whilst not blocking the possibility of its creation *once* the album is released.

Fourohfour 09:28, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

(Copied comment from my page where it was originally posted:-)
Well, no one really visits that page anyway.
True, but there still have to be standards for semi-obscure articles, otherwise it reflects badly on Wikipedia, and encourages people to treat it as a fansite (for whatever) and create non-encylopedic articles.
Plus, if they're like me they'll see the no create page and will not try to create it.
That's a good point, but linking to a redirected page will probably cause confusion.
Also, the CD will be released less than 3 weeks away! I know everything about it. I created the Now #1's. Plus, all that's been released is the track listings and its released date. Please! Let me create it.
I've got news for you; an older version of the article was AfDed, and I voted in *favour* of it for that reason (provided it was cleaned up a lot and the speculative material replaced with only known facts). Everyone else voted against it! So if you create it before the release, it may well be deleted by someone else anyway. Please respect the vote until the album comes out, or it's likely your work will be wasted.
BTW, I'm kind of opposed to "Now!" CD articles and the like, because there's little or nothing of interest to say about them apart from "these are the tracks". Wikipedia isn't meant to be a simple repository of information.... But when I asked for comments about whether they should be kept or removed, there were very few replies, not enough to get consensus on the matter. I figure if we're going to have them, they may as well be organised properly, but that's as far as my interest goes. Fourohfour 09:54, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Top 100 Kids edit

Hi, I noticed you've been adding this chart to multiple song pages. You listed the reference as http://www.freewebs.com/alyandaj565565/ which is a freewebs page, one that anyone can make. As far as I know, there is no official Billboard magazine chart for kids singles. Thus, I am removing the "top 100 kids singles" references on song pages, as it seems to be a non-notable made-up chart. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 00:03, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not going to get into an argument with you over whether kids and adults are equal.. the fact is Canada, UK & Australia each have official chart companies (like Billboard), and kids don't have an official singles chart, as they don't have a country.
You said: It's a well organized company who looks at tons of websites. The only reason they have to use freewebs is because they don't have a accesible way to make a website from other places.
Can you name the company, as there is no contact information on the freewebs page. I seriously doubt the notability and accuracy of charts compiled be a company who uses a freewebs page. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 00:13, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I see.. this is just a hunch, but could this "small company" be comprised of Mrs. Dixon's 5th Grade Class of 05-06? I don't see any scientific method used to compile the charts. per WP:SONG, the consensus is that official and notable world charts (United World, top40-tracks) should be included. I fail to see the importance of including information about this chart on Wikipedia, however I will stop removing them for now (my show is on!) -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 00:36, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
(By "my show is on" I meant that I had to go watch TV) Please tell me why you think that the "Top 100 Kids Songs" chart is notable enough to be included in Wikipedia articles? -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 01:28, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
You should read WP:SPAM and WP:NOT. Wikipedia is not supposed to be used to promote commercial websites. And of course Billboard started small too, but they have an actual "scientific" way of creating charts. If you wish, you may open an RFC to ask other Wiki editors about this issue. Albumbox 2 edit

It looks like you tried to recreate Template:Album infobox 2 to add some new features or something? I've reverted because it broke a lot of pages that are still using the template as a redirect (see Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Album infobox 2). If you think the box needs altering, it would be best to suggest it at Template talk:Album infobox - it's easy enough to alter that box if people think it's a good idea. Flowerparty? 00:13, 12 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Without discussing the issue or seeking consensus, you've removed the infoboxes at Most Wanted (Hilary Duff album) and I'm Not Dead and replaced them with HTML syntax, which many users find extremely difficult to alter. Please stop: this is against WikiProject Albums guidelines. As Flowerparty said above, if you want to propose a change to the current infobox, then do so at Template talk:Album infobox rather than simply removing the current template. Read history and Wikipedia policies edit

I would ask you to read comments left in edit histories and in particular, Wikipedia guidlines on album pages, which clearly state to use only the original (i.e. first) release date, which in the case of I'm Not Dead (which is what brought me to write this) isn't the US release date (and also, don't just ignore it when a comment is left within an article, unless it sounds like its unjustified). Thanks in advance! - RedHot 11:12, 20 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, if that's all it was, you should've said something in your edit summaries. I would've added it as a comment or something. Anyway, Ireland definitely (I know this was, but it's always an extremely safe bet to assume Ireland's release for CDs is the Friday before UK, since 99.9% of time it is). I've also changed it back to just one date as per blah blah blah... - RedHot 09:07, 21 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Everlife_main.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Everlife_main.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Rihanna - SOS edit

Please cite a source which says "S.O.S. (Rescue Me)" is the title of the song. Billboard, other official charts, and even the single cover state simply "SOS". I have added a speedy del tag to move the page back. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 19:40, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

By the way, I noticed that you create sandboxes on unexistant user pages. It is strongly recommended that you instead use subpages (like User:Tcatron565/Sandbox). -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 19:47, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Here are some hints on how to correctly add images: Hello!

Thanks for uploading some pictures to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the requirements and good practices for uploaded images.

  • Pick an image name.
When uploading an image, pick a file name that is descriptive, and unique. Remember that many images may be uploaded about the same topic, and remember that names are case sensitive.
  • Source the image.
On the image description page, explain where the image came from. If you created the image yourself, then say so. If it's from the web, give a URL. If it's a screenshot of a movie or game, or a scan from a book, give the title.
  • Provide copyright and license information.
This part is a little bit trickier, but it's very important. The copyright of the image generally belongs to whomever created it.
If it's a photograph you took, or an image you created (modifying an image that already exists doesn't count) in software like Photoshop or GIMP, then you own the copyright. To upload it to Wikipedia, you must agree to license it under the GFDL (which allows anyone to use it, but requires that they give credit to the original author and requires that any further edit to the image be licensed under the GFDL as well) or release it into the public domain (which allows anyone to use it for any purpose without restriction.) Do this by placing an appropriate tag on the image description page, like {{GFDL}} or {{PD}}. Be sure to mention that you created the image. If you're using {{PD}}, you may also want to use {{NoRightsReserved}}, since there is some dispute as to whether one may grant items into the public domain.
If you didn't create the image, or the copyright somehow belongs to another party (like a screenshot, which you might "create", but the copyright belongs to the author of the movie or video game), then you need to find another tag that describes the copyright status of the image. Images used on Wikipedia need to be free for our use and the use of sites which reproduce our content. This means that images cannot have a restriction such as "only for use by Wikipedia", or "for non-commercial use only", or "for educational use". Images without a free license may be usable in certain articles under fair use, but such a use should be justified on the image description page.
  • Describe the image.
To another reader, the image may not be immediately understood. A caption in an article doesn't explain the image to a visitor who sees it on its image page. Put a brief explanation of what is in the image on the image description page, similar to what you might include in a caption on an article.

Image copyright problem with Image:Hduffh.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hduffh.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 20:04, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Some places list the song as "SOS (Rescue Me)", but the official song title is "SOS"; see Billboard, Amazon and the Def Jam record label. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 00:38, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, Wikipedia articles are not reliable sources for use on other Wikipedia articles. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 22:33, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
My sources are Billboard magazine and the single cover itself, which carry much more weight than AOL Music. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 23:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think I've found out why some sources say "SOS (Rescue Me)": if you check out a previous version of the SOS cover, it says "SOS (Rescue Me)". The record label must have removed the extra part at the last minute, and some websites/channels haven't bothered to change the title. And that the page title "has been changed too much" isn't a valid reason not to move it back; Wikipedia has to reflect the facts either way. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 23:38, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

  1. You added a new Rihanna image saying that it was sourced; the URL on the image page only says "mp3.com", but the image needs to have an exact source URL (and preferably a fair use rationale).
  2. The "My Pictures" section on your user page includes fair use images, those cannot be displayed anywhere on Wikipedia except in the article namespace. I request that you remove the image thumbs, except for Image:Noimageforcd.gif, Image:Newi.gif, Image:Mypatty.gif and Image:2andonehalfoutof5.gif, which are under free use licenses. Thanks -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 00:47, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

adding images to number ones pages edit

I reverted your changes. Please don't make huge modifications like this without a Talk Page discussion first. These pages are lists - they do not need images. Single/album covers should be used for single/album/artist articles. Not all singles had pictures and the way you added them upset the formatting of the pages. Also, if we add images to these pages, we would have to do it for all years and for all formats that have number-ones lists so as to not show POV to only certain artists. Please do not re-add them unless there is a consensus on a) whether they should be there and if so b) how they should be arranged. Thanks. -- eo 01:49, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

THO links edit

Hi Tcatron565. Firstly, thanks for your response to the images topic I wrote about above; I appreciate it. Just wanted to ask you to please be careful with all your links to that Top Hits Online website. Those charts are not official - meaning that they are determined by internet users who contribute their own personal charts. Moreover, the reviews on that site are by user contributions (not professionals). When I clicked one of the links you posted, it brought up a review page where the first thing listed was a summary you wrote. This isn't gonna go over for an encyclopedia and if you keep adding them, people are just going to remove them. As far as obtining song lyrics from THO, I assume that would be ok.... but just keep tabs on it so you don't waste your time adding stuff that people will revert anyway. See ya. -- eo 16:30, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

number one hits, again edit

Tcatron, please - again - do not make huge changes to these lists without discussing on the Talk Pages first and getting a consenses from editors. These are lists of HITS/SONGS/SINGLES. Adding the albums is just overkill. In addition, there are number one lists for R&B, Dance, Modern Rock and U.S. Albums. Some songs appear on more than one album (soundtracks, compilations, etc.) and that just complicates matters. Many editors have contributed to these lists and have utilized the same list-template for each page. All the formatting on all these pages is identical. Let's not make one list vastly different from all the others. Thanks. -- eo 14:43, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pages unrelated to Wikipedia again edit

I've nominated the nonsense subpages you created for deletion; see Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User talk:Top 50. As I said before, Wikipedia is not a free host, blog, or webspace provider. Again, I'm asking you to start listening to what other users (including myself) are telling you, specifically the importance of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. You've already been the subject of a request for comment, and I'm tempted to open another on you just for repeatedly ignoring the advice other editors have given you under the assumption that you would follow it. It's good that you want to contribute to Wikipedia, but you can't just dismiss the policies and guidelines and act as if this website is your own personal playground. You have the potential to be a highly valued member of the community here, but if you continue to behave and edit the way you've been doing since you arrived, your time here will not be enjoyable. It would be appreciated if your edits were in support of the policies and guidelines rather than your own personal preferences. Extraordinary Machine 12:51, 30 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

  1. I've already asked that you make sure you post messages in the right place on my talk page. User talk:Extraordinary Machine/Archive 7 is an archive page; no new messages are supposed to be left there. Please double check where you are about to leave a message next time.
  2. Sorry, but I don't believe you when you say you have a friend who operates the account Top 50 (talk · contribs). There are ways of checking a username's IP address, and if yours matches the one for Top 50, then punitive action may be made against you.
  3. About Point of No Return (3LW album): words such as "of" should not be capitalised in album and song titles, see WP:NC#Album_titles_and_band_names. I'm also requesting that you read the guidelines at WikiProject Albums, which state that album infoboxes for studio albums should be orange (not any other colour).
  4. About Most Wanted: disambiguation pages should only be separated with section headers if they are very long (and don't capitalise every single word in section headers; that's a violation of the MoS), "piped links" (e.g. [[Most Wanted (Hilary Duff album)|Most Wanted]] should be avoided, and unneeded wikilinks should not be inserted. See WP:MOSDAB and WP:MOS. Extraordinary Machine 20:57, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your age edit

In this edit, you note that you are 11 years old. While people obviously still have problems with some of your edits, I just wanted to let you know that I pretty much don't bother checking the diffs when I see you have made an edit. This is a far cry from how things were when you started editing here. While you are certainly not perfect, I must say you are a good example of why Wikipedia should not introduce lower age limits. I would have estimated you were several years older and I am quite impressed that someone not even a teenager is providing often valuable edits to the Wikipedia. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing you continue to improve as you get older. --Yamla 23:40, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

More unofficial charts? edit

Why do you repeatedly add songs' chart positions on personal charts to Wikipedia? Unless these charts claim notablity, I don't understand why they should be here. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 20:48, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The only reason there is a page is because you created it. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 21:16, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've removed the chart and tagged it for deletion. By the way, since you are only eleven, you should be careful about giving out personal information on the internet. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 21:29, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Getcrunk has a very good point. You almost certainly do not consider it a big deal to give out potentially identifying information about yourself but let me assure you it is a big deal. I am sure you know how to take care of yourself but please do me a favour and sit down with your mother or father and have a discussion about this with them. You'll think this is stupid now but in ten years' time, you'll realise this was good advice. If you sit down with a parent and discuss this with them, I'll give you a barnstar. This doesn't really have much value but you may get a kick out of receiving one. --Yamla 03:00, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Chemicals React and Chemicals React (Aly & AJ song) edit

You've just copied and pasted the article back to the redirect page. Not only is this out of compliance with the WP:SONG guidelines and the naming conventions, it's a direct violation of Wikipedia's copyrights policy. Pages should only be renamed via the "Move" function to preserve the edit history; they should never be cut and pasted elsewhere. You've already been asked to consult Wikipedia's policies and guidelines and the relevant WikiProjects; if you continue editing as you have been doing, you may find yourself blocked from editing for a period. Extraordinary Machine 12:27, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject Music, which I've asked you to consult already, advises against disambiguating reflexively. For example, there may be another song or album or something by the name of "Chemicals React", but since none of those topics have an article, the article on the Aly & AJ song should be at Chemicals React. If an article was created on another topic (but not a song) called "Chemicals React", then the Aly & AJ article would be moved to Chemicals React (song); if an article on an unrelated song called "Chemicals React" was created then the Aly & AJ article would be moved to Chemicals React (Aly & AJ song). Just like A Thousand Miles isn't at A Thousand Miles (Vanessa Carlton song) or even A Thousand Miles (song). Please, I really think it would benefit both you and other editors if you re-read some of the messages myself and other people have left you, and looked at the policy, guideline and WikiProject pages we have referred you to. Extraordinary Machine 12:56, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for experimenting with Wikipedia. The links you added to the page Hilary Duff have been removed. Please do not add commercial links—or links to your own private websites—to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links. See the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. --Yamla 18:26, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vanessa Carlton edit

May I ask why you placed a cleanup tag in the discography section? Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 00:26, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

  1. Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#Structure_of_the_article recommends against inserting section and subsection headers in close proximity to each other as they make the article look cluttered and inhibit the flow.
  2. Wikipedia:WikiProject Music states song titles shouldn't be linked unless an article on the song already exists or is likely to be created. For example, an article on a song like "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" is likely to come up (and I'm surprised one doesn't exist yet) because the song's been covered several times by notable acts, whereas "Who's to Say" is hardly noteworthy at all. Please read the Wikipedia:Notability (songs) guidelines.
  3. Do not boldface number-one positions. Firstly, it violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy to do so (by deliberately emphasising an artist's successes), and secondly, it's distracting for readers looking for positions other than the number-ones. Wikipedia:Manual of Style advises against bolding unnecessarily.
  4. You didn't cite your sources for the chart positions for the Billboard Adult Contemporary column. Please do so.
  5. The link Adult Contemporary leads to Adult contemporary music. The article you should have piped the link to is Adult Contemporary (Billboard chart). In the future, please check where the wikilinks you insert lead to.
  6. "n/a" means "not applicable", indicating that the single was ineligible to appear on a chart for some reason (e.g. it wasn't released). A dash indicates that the single was eligible to appear but didn't.
  7. Is there a reason why you replaced the m-dashes with "-" dash?
  8. The ISO 3166-1 code for Indonesia is "IDN", not "IND" (which is the code for India).
  9. Finally, you failed to respond to my message above, and as I've explained above the "Clean-Up" you performed at Vanessa Carlton indicates that you haven't consulted any of the pages other editors have asked you to. Regardless of what you think of me, I'm not trying to annoy you or hassle you for no good reason. However, I'm not going to watch as somebody edit in violation of the policies and guidelines and not explain mistakes they make because they don't want me to; I'm also an administrator, which increases my responsibilities when responding to situations such as this. Please comment on my concerns on my talk page, and bear in mind that refusal to discuss issues with other editors is usually interpreted as representative of an unwillingness to work collaboratively. Extraordinary Machine 16:44, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
"[I]t looked really sad" is not a sufficient reason for editing in violation of Wikipedia's style policies and guidelines; if you want to suggest changes you can leave messages at places like Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (or any talk page for any of the project pages I've directed you to), but you can't just dismiss what these pages and other editors are telling you. In response to your remark that "I'm getting really tired of talking to you"; well, unfortunately, this is an encyclopedia that is based on collaborative editing and discussing and forming consensus with other editors. If you dislike messages such as these, then you may want to spend your time elsewhere; I know that you have genuine enthusiasm for the project, but insulting and ignoring other users will get you nowhere. Your second point is completely irrelevant (I never made any comments about how you disambiguated the links), and it was me who explained this to you in the first place, so I'm not sure why you're mentioning it. 1. Year-in-music links shouldn't be piped to look like normal year links, and full date links shouldn't be piped at all. See WP:MOSDATE and Wikipedia:WikiProject Music, which I've already referred you to.
  2. It's against Wikipedia's copyright policies to link to music videos, because it means the whole song is available to listen to, and we should never link to copyrighted material like that. You don't seem to be listening to other editors about this, so I'm telling you now that if you keep inserting external links in violation of the Wikipedia:External links guidelines, you may be blocked from editing for a period.
  3. I should also inform you that ignoring other users' comments is considered impolite and unproductive. This kind of behaviour could lead to a request for comment being filed on you, so I suggest that you stop it now. Extraordinary Machine 21:12, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
  1. I'm sure that in real life you may stop talking to people with whom you're in disagreement, but unfortunately for you that's not how it works on Wikipedia; this is a community project based on collaborative editing. There's no consensus on whether to remove lyrics links (they only contain a song's lyrics rather than the lyrics and music), but as far as I know removing music video links is widely endorsed here. Whether other articles contain such links is irrelevant, and you should remove them if you spot them.
  2. It's common courtesy, both online and off, to tell someone communicating with you that you know what they have said, or else they won't know if what they said got through or not. Obviously you don't appear to "get the point" because editors including myself have needed to bring up the same issues with you over and over. You probably wouldn't be in this situation if you had read the policy and guidelines pages, as you've been asked to.
  3. Look at the Beat of My Heart article and tell me you honestly think it is big enough to include another image. Also, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection; readers of a general purpose encyclopedia won't need a blow-by-blow presentation of a single's chart performance. I've spent quite a bit of Wikitime cleaning up some of these Hilary Duff articles, and I don't want anybody (including you) to treat this website like a free fanlisting for their favourite singers.
  4. Please read Wikipedia:Civility, and bear in mind that you shouldn't be entering Wikipedia nonchalantly expecting to "fight" with other contributors. That is a wrong-headed attitude to have here, and your time here will be limited if you don't change it. Extraordinary Machine 02:16, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hilary Duff and Chemicals React edit

  1. About Hilary Duff: as I previously explained above at #Album covers, etc. on biographical articles, fair use images (including album covers) should never be used as decoration. As well, each fair use image requires a rationale of fair use on their description pages.
  2. About Chemicals React: Please do not remove maintenance notices from pages unless the required changes have been made. If you are uncertain whether the page requires further work, or if you disagree with the notice, please discuss these issues on the page's talk page before removing the notice from the page. These notices and comments are needed to establish community consensus about the status of a page. Thank you.
  3. Game titles should be in italics; see Wikipedia:Manual of Style. The article didn't make clear that The Sims 2 was a video game either.
  4. Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#Structure_of_the_article recommends (for good reason) against short sections, specifically citing the undesirability of single-paragraph sections. This is particularly relevant to the "Chemicals React" article, in which the entire body of text is small enough to become the one "section".
  5. There are various Total Request Live countdowns across the world, as I'm sure there are Radio Disney stations. Not indicating from what country these charts are is sure to lead to confusion, as well as being deeply U.S.-centric (thus introducing issues related to Wikipedia:Neutral point of view). Same with the album and single release dates. Total Request Live is a television show, and its title should be formatted accordingly (in italics).
  6. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. While the Wikipedia community appreciates your obvious efforts to increase the amount of information on the site, we'd like to point out our policy against original research and for citing sources for the information you provide. This increases the reputation of Wikipedia as a whole and aids in checking the factuality of that article. Per Wikipedia:Verifiability:
    1. Articles should contain only material that has been published by reputable sources.
    2. Editors adding new material to an article should cite a reputable source, or it may be removed by any editor.
    3. The obligation to provide a reputable source lies with the editors wishing to include the material, not on those seeking to remove it.
  7. Ignoring other editors is generally frowned upon, as well as being incredibly rude. Extraordinary Machine 16:52, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Don't ignore other editors edit

  1. Don't ignore other editors.
  2. Read what I wrote above about what the Manual of Style says about short sections.
  3. Read WikiProject Albums, which recommends one chronology in the infobox only.
  4. Read what I wrote about citing sources and verifiability.
  5. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball; do not insert unverifiable speculation into Wikipedia articles. Extraordinary Machine 20:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for replying. Wikipedia articles cannot cite other Wikipedia articles as a source; this creates a circular reference. Please read Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Extraordinary Machine 20:42, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Also - and I'm sorry I didn't realise this earlier - the TRL countdown isn't an official record chart, so it shouldn't be listed in "Chart" sections of articles. Please do not boldface number-one positions; not only does it introduce NPOV issues, but it is distracting and contravenes the Manual of Style (which recommends that boldfacing be used sparingly). Extraordinary Machine 20:47, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Regarding Beat of My Heart: there was extensive discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music/Tables for charts where consensus arose that week-by-week chart trajectories are unnecessary in a general purpose encyclopedia. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, as I've already told you. Extraordinary Machine 20:51, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
http://www.apcchart.com/ only gives the current Euro 200 chart, and it does not appear to have any archive pages; therefore, there is no way to verify the information you recently added to the Hilary Duff song articles. Please only add material to articles using sources that can be verified. Extraordinary Machine 23:51, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Number-one songs lists edit

I've reverted your changes. These articles are lists, not a commentary or an explanation about the songs. Giving special attention to certain titles shows POV and messes up the articles. P.S. You may want to begin an archive page for your User Talk, as the "too long" message pops up when put into edit mode. Thanks. -- eo 16:09, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

World's Most Requested edit

Your aticle World's Most Requested appears to be from Top Hits Online - The Weekly Top 100. Why isn't it titled as such? I do not understand the irrelevant title. I've added what I believe to be the source of the list to the article. Let me know if I a missing something.JustOneJake 19:03, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Warning edit

Re this - do not make major undiscussed edits to a highly-visible and highly-used template without consensus. Thank you. – Chacor 12:21, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

That template is used on hundreds of pages on Wikipedia. There were only 27 named storms; 1 was unnamed. "Storm" here is already taken to mean storms of at least tropical storm strength. – Chacor 12:30, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Brandnewgirlfriend.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Brandnewgirlfriend.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 15:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Free images edit

Please do not replace existing images with others whose status is uncertain, such as you did to Stacy Ferguson. Additionally, please do not replace existing free images with copyrighted images under any circumstances. And please refrain from uploading any more images unless you have available the source, copyright holder, can provide an accurate license, and a detailed fair-use rationale for each use of the image. --Yamla 15:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion edit

I noticed that you tagged the page This Time (JoJo song) for speedy deletion with the reason "Not going to be a single anymore". However, "Not going to be a single anymore" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. You can use Wikipedia:Articles for deletion if you still want the page to be deleted. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 19:00, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:CBTMVH.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:CBTMVH.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
