Resident Evil Zero edit

What is the 2017 edit? And for it to remove Leech Hunter? 2607:FEA8:F420:F400:7936:C43:C16B:E31 (talk) 03:09, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Was cleaning up the article. OK to add back in but needs sources ideally. TarkusABtalk/contrib 05:40, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Valis III edit

Hello TarkusAB. I see that you are interested in the Valis series. I was thinking of working on promoting Valis III for GA. The article isn't big, but it's as comprehensive as Alien 8. If possible, could you help me with some feedback on what needs to be expanded? I will be very grateful. Best regards. ✍A.WagnerC (talk) 14:20, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @A.WagnerC:. It's nice to see someone trying to improve Valis III. Here are my thoughts.
  • Needs a screenshot
  • The gameplay is written like it assumes the reader has played Valis or Castlevania before. It doesn't do a very good job explaining how the game plays. It should do a better job explaining the gameplay objectively, with the mechanics explained. Look at Contra III: The Alien Wars to see what I mean. The section should explain that it's a platform game, the weapons that can be used, there's a magic meter (i think), there are boss fights, there are X number of stages, etc. Use reviews the help write and source the gameplay.
  • Try to find development information....i know...
  • Make sure to check the sources linked on the talk page. I'm not sure what's in them.
  • The release section is overall pretty good
  • Reception section:
    • The scores should only be in the box, not in prose.
    • Should probably use the multiplatform score table to list both PC Engine and Genesis scores.
    • Section may need a rewrite. Read the reviews and try to discover what it was the critics liked and disliked about the game. Group similar comments together, and try to paraphrase and not use quotes as much as possible. Again, check out the Contra III article to see what I mean.
    • I would first try to use the reviews of the PC Engine version to write generally about the game reception, then group the Genesis reviews separately, and see how people thought of that game compared to the OG version. I kind of did that at Dino Crisis, where I talked primarily about the OG PlayStation version first, then a paragraph at the end for the Dreamcast and Windows ports. But how you give weight depends on how many PC Engine reviews vs Genesis reviews you can find. For example, for Flicky, I wrote mostly about the Genesis port, because I couldn't find reviews of the arcade game. Hopefully that makes sense.
So overall not too bad but Gameplay and Reception seem to need rewrites before thinking about a GA nomination. TarkusABtalk/contrib 00:02, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Your work was excellent. Thank you so much. Tomorrow I'll try to modify the plot using the Valis III instruction manual (and sometimes Hardcore Gaming) as reference. ✍A.WagnerC (talk) 02:33, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB:Hey man! How're you doing. I recently finished my work on pretty much all of the Valis articles on Wikipedia except the series page. A.WagnerC already nominated Valis III so, if you're interested and have free time in your hands, we want you to review the article: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk%3AValis_III%2FGA1&preload=Template%3AGAN%2Fpreload&editintro=Template%3AGAN%2Feditintro&action=edit Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:28, 16 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I will do the review. TarkusABtalk/contrib 16:39, 17 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Tarkus! Just out of curiosity, how's Japan been treating you? Panini! 🥪 15:43, 7 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Panini! Because of Japan's strict border closures, I was never permitted in. I'm moving to Hawaii this month to continue my career in healthcare process engineering. TarkusABtalk/contrib 16:44, 7 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's a shame to hear, but I've heard from people who lived in Hawaii that it's exactly the paradise people make it sound like. Best of luck with your career choice! Panini! 🥪 21:03, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Clock Tower edit

Retro Gamer issue 218 has a five page retrospective on the game, including comments by the director. Additionally, the Spanish version of Retro Gamer issue 22 has another retrospective on the series. These can be used to expand the Wikipedia article.

Additionally, Clock Tower: Ghost Head was featured on the Japanese variety tv show Game Center CX, episode 432. Harizotoh9 (talk) 01:58, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Help with translation! edit

Hello Tarkus! Happy new year! Sorry for bothering you in case you're busy with irl stuff but, i wanted to ask you for help in regards to identifying these members of the Shining Force II development team (https://archive.org/details/shining-force-ii-kouryaku-no-tebiki/page/n153/mode/2up). I know two of them are the Takahashi brothers but i would love to know the rest of the team. I would be grateful for your help. Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:37, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@TarkusAB:Thanks a lot! I've been doing a side project regarding the Shining games made by Camelot, which involves finding info about each title Camelot made prior to Golden Sun. The only one left is now the original Shining Force. Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:37, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey there @TarkusAB:! How're you doing? Sorry for the bothering but i need some help with Japanese text, as i'm trying to expand the barebones reception section of Konami's Gaiapolis. These are the articles i need help with: https://archive.org/stream/gamest0090#page/n47/mode/1up and https://retrocdn.net/index.php?title=File%3ADengekiMD_JP_03.pdf&page=49 I would be grateful for your help. Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:15, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi @KGRAMR:. I saw your message when you first posted it. I haven't had time yet to do this, but maybe sometime in February... TarkusABtalk/contrib 19:50, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB:Oh OK! Nevertheless, thanks for letting me know! Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:00, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@KGRAMR: Here's Gamest:

  • It's an action RPG with growth mechanics. Will people who test it out want to buy it? Only the first half of development is completed, so I'm hoping they up the action. (5/10)
  • This game challenges the notion that the genre is not suitable for arcades. I feel like it is for players that enjoy games like Dark Seal and Cadash. (4/10)
  • As a Konami action RPG game, the graphics and sound are both good. If the the enemies and fighting are made a little more interesting, I think it could be a really fascinating game. (7/10)
  • For me, I like these type of character-focused games, but performing the same movements over and over feels like work. I think it would be better if they put the player a bit more on their toes. (4/10)
  • Battling enemies is monotonous work and not interesting. The story and direction isn't all that interesting either. With some rework, it could become better. (4/10)

The Dengeki article just talks about the basics of the game: the synopsis, basic gameplay description, etc. No development information. I'm thinking that maybe there is an English language source that can be used to cover this? TarkusABtalk/contrib 13:13, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@TarkusAB:Cool! Thanks for the help man! This will help me out a lot with Gaiapolis, once i'm done remaking the article for the original Rayxanber. Roberth Martinez (talk) 13:25, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey there! I'm finally done with the whole Rayxanber series so i'm preparing to work on Gaiapolis. However, sorry once again for the bothering, but i need help with identifying these members of the Grandia team, if you're not busy with irl stuff :) — https://segaretro.org/index.php?title=File%3ASSM_JP_19970808_1997-27.pdf&page=82 (P.S.: I'm also preparing to work on the first Valis game in a near future so, leave that one to me! I'll try to find what i can to rework it and expand it :D) Have a good day buddy! Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:49, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@KGRAMR: From left to right:
  • Masatoshi Azumi (安住政敏), "Battle Director"
  • Masao Ishikawa (石川雅生), "Main Battle Programmer"
  • Takahiro Okano (岡野崇宏), "Main Game Design"
If you look at the Japanese Wikipedia page for Grandia, ja:グランディア, you will see them listed. They are not on Moby Games. I wonder if this is because the credits for the Saturn version are different than the PS1 version. Also, I want to note that this interview is specifically about the battle system. Reading the captions with their photos, it talks about how they also have other responsibilities like with drawing graphics, etc. TarkusABtalk/contrib 04:35, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB:Thanks for your invaluable help as always! Gonna make sure to credit you for helping me with identifying these folks :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 04:38, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@TarkusAB:Hello there! How are you doing? Sorry for bothering you in case you're busy with irl stuff but I was wondering if you could help me in the future understand what is being said on page 4 of a liner note regarding the music for Gaiapolis? It has more text that the stuff I've shown you, but this might have info regarding the composer's experience with the project: https://vgmsite.com/soundtracks/konami-amusement-sounds-93-summer/Booklet%20p.%2004-05.jpg (P.S.: I also found two liner notes with info regarding the music for Border Down that might be very useful for your work on that article :) ) Roberth Martinez (talk) 06:44, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@KGRAMR:

Now that I think about it, the 3 games represented across these CDs (ANTHONY'S NOTE: the three games in this CD set are Gaiapolis, Lethal Enforcers, and Mystic Warriors) were created around the same time with all our desks and instruments lined up next to each other. When I had writer’s block, I would look at the work of my coworkers and say to myself: “Those are some cool drawings and songs” and “I don’t know what could be better than that.”

Sometimes, TECHNOuchi would hum a tune, and just as he would start thinking over his new ideas while eating lunch, Fukui would say: “hey, sorry, It seems like I’m not going to finish this song on time, can you guys help me?” So we’d have to help with songs for Lethal Enforcers which we didn’t know much about. We were busy running around everyday.

For that reason, when I listen to my songs and those of others on these CDs, I'm reminded of those good times. We all worked pretty hard.

-(Satoko Miyawaki)

---

Hey everyone, it’s me again, Fukami. This time, I was responsible for the background music in Gaiapolis. This game is Konami’s first arcade role-playing game, has 17 grand stages, and the background music is infused with a variety of orchestral, ethnic, and cinematic music.

However, that being said, it was difficult managing the amount of compositions I was working on. I would lose track of details as I was approaching 40 songs and wonder, “What song was this again?” The development was long, so I’m not sure what I was doing all that time. (To be honest, X-Men, which I worked on previously, took three years. Rather than long, I was barely working).

Anyways, listen to the music and have fun in the game’s world.

And…oh yes, I almost forgot…

I was also responsible for the “Arrange Version” of the soundtrack. "But all the tracks are different?" you might ask. Yes that’s right. I went back and did different arrangements of the songs. To be honest, I kind of like these new tracks. Everyone has different tastes in music, so please give it a listen. (However, it’s the summer. The weather is good. I want to go camping and fishing…and go to America.)

-(Seiichi Fukami)

This one took a bit more work. I'm moving very soon and starting a new job, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to continue these. But feel free to continue sharing, and I will get to them if I am able. TarkusABtalk/contrib 00:54, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@TarkusAB:Thank you so much! This will serve me a lot for the article. Once I add this, i'm pretty much with it :D Good luck on your new job :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:32, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey there Tarkus! How're you doing? Look, i plan to start working on the reception section of the first Valis game but i need a little bit of help: I just want to known the ratings for the MSX version, not the whole review: https://archive.org/details/MSXmagazine198701S/page/n94/mode/1up if you can, then i would be very grateful. Have a good day :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:01, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi @KGRAMR:. I'm doing well. I hope you are well too. Valis? Very nice. Good luck. From top to bottom: Graphics, Characters, Background music, Playability, Overall. If I can find the time, I will try and translate the rest...or at least will let you know if there's anything interesting. TarkusABtalk/contrib 01:16, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB:Thanks and sure, no problem! But i have to finish the Mega Drive version of Valis first. I've been meaning to do it but maybe its finally time for me to pull it off... Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:53, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB:Hey there! I finished the reception paragraph for one of the original versions of Valis (i.e. the MSX version) but i was wondering if you could help me with translating these two Famitsu reviews for the Mega Drive (https://archive.org/details/weekly-famitsu-no.-158-december-27th-1991-600DPI/Weekly%20Famitsu%20No.%20158%20December%20%2027th%201991%20%28Searchable%29/page/42/mode/1up) and PC Engine (https://archive.org/details/weekly-famitsu-no.-171-march-27th-1992-600DPI/Weekly%20Famitsu%20-%20No.%20171%20March%2027th%201992%20%28Compressed%29/page/n37/mode/1up) remakes respectively. At the moment, i'm only looking for a translation of the Mega Drive review first before jumping to the PC Engine reviews. Afterwards, i'll takle that game's release history section, as there quite a lot of meat out there regarding that subject. Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:28, 18 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB:Hey there! How're you doing? Look, sorry if i'm bothering you in case you're busy but can you help me translate these scores given to the MSX version of Valis II? I started to work on that game's reception section: https://archive.org/details/MSXmagazine198912S_201711/page/n25/mode/2up Roberth Martinez (talk) 20:58, 27 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@KGRAMR: I'm sorry Roberth. I am tremendously busy these days. I do not know when I will be able to get to this or your previous request. TarkusABtalk/contrib 07:48, 3 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB: Don't worry man! I know you're busy :) Take care! Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:31, 3 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
@KGRAMR: The columns are different reviewers. The rows are, from top to bottom: First impressions, playability, graphics, scenario, and value (like, is the game worth its cost). TarkusABtalk/contrib 20:19, 7 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
@TarkusAB:Hey there man! How're you doing? Sorry for bothering you right now but if you have the chance, can you try to see what this Famitsu article says about Gaiapolis? There is a comment (correction: Column) section, which means the editor's thoughts about the game. https://archive.org/details/weekly-famitsu-no.-235-june-18th-1993/page/120/mode/2up Roberth Martinez (talk) 18:49, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
