Mallar/Pallar

edit

Hi, a quote should not be included in the beginning of a wiki article. If you want to add the thirukkural in Pallar article, you're welcome to add them elsewhere in the article. Thanks.--Kanags (talk) 08:59, 18 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Help with Pallar

edit

{{helpme}} Can anyone give me suggestions to improve the Pallar article.

  • Avoid using bold throughout the article
  • Add neutral, factual information from appropriate reliable sources such as books
  • Remove unreferenced claims
  • Remove the quotations that are not in English; on English Wikipedia, large chunks of non-English text are not helpful
  • Trim down the excessive quotations
  • Remove the long lists of names ("List of Devendra kula vellalar sub divisions" and others) - see WP:NOTDIR
Try to add prose, not lists and quotations. Explain what the thing is, instead of listing facts
  • Similarly, "Notable People" should probably be removed; it has no references anyway, and is also probably unencyclopaedic. Consider writing a few paragraphs about some of the most notable, but in the context of their being Pallar, ie any verifiable info about that, for the specific people. If there is no such info, just remove them

The term Dalit

edit

Someone has requested not to use the word Dalit. Do people really get hurt? I'm really worried Caste system will never die because of the attitude of some newly educated Dalit morons. How can someone be ashamed of one's own identity! Deva, Indra, Kula, Adi, Dravida, Arundhati are all non-Tamil words. What's your opinion?(I know Dalit is not a Tamil word either. But its usage helps in uniting all ex-untouchables of the sub-continent) Johnrameshkhan (talk) 21:14, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Pallar

edit

Since this is en.wiki (i.e., English Wikipedia), long quotations in foreign languages are not useful. At a minimum, those would need to be translated. But, even if they were, they probably don't belong. Quotations from dictionaries don't really count as reliable sources. More importantly, the copper plate inscriptions are what Wikipedia calls primary sources. Primary sources cannot actually provide reliable proof of anything except for very literal, simple statements that anyone would agree with, even with no knowledge of the subject. At all times, we want secondary sources--that is, information from scholarly, historical, etc., documents that explain what the original primary sources mean. Please do not re-add extended non-English quotations; if you wish to discuss this further, please go to Talk:Pallar and discuss there. Qwyrxian (talk) 13:07, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Tyagi Immanuvel Devendrar-5.JPG

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Tyagi Immanuvel Devendrar-5.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
