Hi, What is acceptable as 'evidence of permission(s)' for photos uploaded on commons.wikimedia. Thank you Tabletop123 (talk) 19:01, 3 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Commons is no different to here. I assume you mean c:Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Tabletop123 - You need to find who owns the copyright, then they need to donate the copyright at c:COM:CONSENT. Using other people's photos is not easy. If you are very, very, lucky, the copyright owner may have published those photos on their own web site with a suitable license - then the evidence is the web page address - but commons will make sure that it's an official web page of the copyright holder. Speedy deletion nomination of Yangdup Lama

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Yangdup Lama, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:10, 12 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Doris Buffett.jpeg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Doris Buffett.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 17:38, 12 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Nepali Wikipedia

edit

Every Wikipedia in the Subcontinental languages is in terrible shape. Nepali Wikipedia is one of the better ones: I have more than once found useful information there (which is more than I can say of Urdu (once) and Hindi (never)).

IMO Wikipedias in every language should be world-class in topics closely connected to that language.

If you speak Nepali (and from your User Page, I'm guessing that you do), write the Nepali article first (and, make an InterWiki link to your English-language article later). (1) That's the way to recruit new Nepali editors. (2) Nepali Wikipedia doesn't necessarily need massive articles about e.g. scientific topics, or the history of the world; but, it does need excellent articles about Nepal. (3) (very much less importantly) native English-speaking editors like me can catch up later. Best, Narky Blert (talk) 04:24, 15 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Narky Blert: Hi and thank you for the message. I would love to write articles in Nepali too, only if i could write the Devanagari script :). Although Nepali is my mother tongue, I was formally educated in English.--Tabletop123 (talk) 11:53, 15 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Yamaguchi先生 (talk) 00:02, 23 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tabletop123, You have added contentious material to two pages about living persons, which I deleted under the policy of Biographies of Living Persons which requires extra caution and sensitivity. The tone, emphasis, prominence and one-sided sources, some of which are outdated, and the repetition across the two pages, suggest political motivation. Controversies can be included but require a neutral tone and covering all sides of an issue, and extra sensitivity when the subjects are alive. That is why I have removed the contentious material. Please also note the 3 revert rule. I would welcome further discussion with you but would respectfully ask that you not revert this edit. Hello, Tabletop123

Thank you for creating Tikendra Dal Dewan.

User:Doomsdayer520, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thank you for this new article, but I honestly wonder if it should actually be about the British Gurkha Welfare Society (BGWS) at large. Most of the available sources are about the group and mention Mr. Dewan as its leader. Therefore the group may be more notable than the man. If the article was focused on the group, there could be a section on leadership describing Mr. Dewan's accomplishments on their behalf.

Your contributed article, Derek Chauvin (police officer)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Derek Chauvin (police officer). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Killing of George Floyd. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Killing of George Floyd. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. letcreate123 (talk) 05:49, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Replaceable fair use File:Benjamin Crump. Civil rights attorney and founder of the Tallahassee, Florida-based law firm Ben Crump Law.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Benjamin Crump. Civil rights attorney and founder of the Tallahassee, Florida-based law firm Ben Crump Law.jpg.

Thank you. Whpq (talk) 13:12, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

OSM Location map

I have noted your objection to the OSM Location map on the Ambootia page. I am sorry that I could not satisfy you about the map. However, maps are an important element on geographical pages. I am redoing the two maps of the Darjeeling hills and I hope the new maps will have more clarity. Please wait a few days for the revised maps to be placed on the pages. Proposed deletion of Chura ta Hoina Astura

edit

The article Chura ta Hoina Astura has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The song itself fails WP:MUSIC "That a single is an officially released recording by a notable musician or ensemble is not by itself reason for a standalone article." This information can easily be covered in the artist's article without a separate article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of Points of Light (award)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Points of Light (award) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.thegazette.co.uk/all-notices/content/100686#:~:text=Every%20week%20day%20the%20prime,the%20UK%27s%20official%20public%20record.. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Replaceable fair use File:Tony Hudgell.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Tony Hudgell.jpg.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 03:23, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Comment Hi, User:Tabletop123. As another editor of the Tony Hudgell page, I did look for a Commons licensed image of him (Flickr had some official UK Government images but the licensing did not allow their use on Wikipedia). When I nominated the article for a DYK, it was approved only after the above image was removed from the article (and I am keen that the DYK doesn't get delayed or cancelled because of image copyright issues). The Fair Use rationale used apparently relates to use of images of websites, not use of images from websites. I think we should only add an image when we are 100% sure that it has an appropriate Creative Commons license; if I have time, I may contact the Tony Hudgell Foundation and request an image explicitly permitted for use on Wikipedia. Best wishes. Paul W (talk) 08:35, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Tony Hudgell

On 28 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tony Hudgell, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after suffering life-changing injuries as a baby, five-year-old Tony Hudgell raised £1.7 million for a London children's hospital, and inspired English law changes on child abuse? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tony Hudgell. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tony Hudgell), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

An article you recently created, Kiran Nepali, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Women in music

edit

First of all, if you want to revert one edit, then you must revert that edit alone and not all an editor's user contributions. You have been on Wiki for 6 years, so I'm gonna assume you are aware of the rules. Secondly‌, no, I'm South Asian, and this Nepali artist is not known Asia-wide. The pageviews also prove that. So please stop injecting WP:FANCRUFT. Thirdly, not only you cannot keep the image in the lead, it is also to be noted that there is NO PROSE mentioning that artist in the sections of the article. One of the foremost requirements of WP:LEAD is that anything in lead but must be covered in the prose. Don't forget that inclusion in a section does not warrant an image in the lead. Finally, the current article lead has an image of a popular Asian woman, white woman and black woman in the lead and that's succinct and fair. No other images are required. Regards. Speedy deletion nomination of Kiran Nepali (musician)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kiran Nepali (musician) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

→ Tanbiruzzaman 💬 08:31, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
