Armstrong Siddeley Air cooled Engines Ounce

Hi TSRL Please could reference the source material for your edit regarding the Siddeley Ounce Engine,

to refresh your memory, as it has been some time since your edit "the ounce is another name for the Snow Leopard Engine"

I can not find any primary source material to support this. very many thanks. Neil......

I can't locate this edit; could you point me to it? Just looking at the quote you give, I think it should read "The ounce is another name for the snow leopard.", which comes from the oed or other dictionary.TSRL (talk) 17:25, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Bessard-Millevoye Moineau

Hi TSRL, I see your point, but looking into the guidance for the specs template shows that only one engine should be used in the power-plant section. So we both need our bottoms spanking, Fnaar! Fnaar!--Petebutt (talk) 15:19, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Fair cop! I've put the Train 4T in, as that is the only one of the three to have an article; I've also moved the note into the Powerplant section. Cheers,TSRL (talk) 16:24, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Caudron 570

G'day; go your hardest, as we say in this part of the world. Here is what I found that might be useful to you:

  • [1]
  • [2]
  • [3] May not be a Reliable Source
  • [4] possibly non-RS website but it states its data is sourced from Janes of 1936 and 1937
  • [5] and [6]

I have seen Caudron R.570, Caudron-Renault C.570, Caudron C.570 (which is how it's listed in the Caudron article) and C-570 as well. Good luck! Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 09:25, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the prompt reply and the refs - I'll bash on then. I'd been thinking about getting Hauet book 2 (got book 1) but copies are not cheap. I'd missed the Flight article, which could be useful for those, like me, with weak French - I like to use such contemporary articles where they exist, as they are less likely to have gathered myth and mistakes. Cheers,TSRL (talk) 09:43, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Minimum Control Speed

Vmc is the minimum speed needed to maintain control with one ( or more) engines out. On the Mosquito it was typically 5-10 kts above take-off speed!!!!!!!!!--Petebutt (talk) 10:06, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for that. Since you posted, I've had a look at VMC and it seems quite messy! Still, I'd guess that in the simpler 1920s "Vitesse minimum" meant what it said and probably would not have been far above the stall speed, if not equal to it. Cheers,TSRL (talk) 19:51, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Breguet aircraft

Hi, seasons greetings! I was just going through the Breguet navbox and sorting out some articles that were not bolding due to page moves when I noticed that there are two versions of Breguet spelling in use, one with an acute accent and one without. The French articles indicate a plain spelling. I can fix it but thought I'd check with you first, cheers. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 20:44, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

There is some discrepancy in the family articles as well, Louis Charles Bréguet was moved recently, two relatives mentioned have plain spelling and the French article differs from the English one. All good fun! Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 20:49, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

I've had a quick scamper through the few Breguets I started and the great majority of French sources use the unaccented form (one exception in 10 or so). In a lot of cases I've added a gratuitous é in quoting the article title in the ref. Pardon moi! and well spotted. Cheers,TSRL (talk) 21:34, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Sounds more French with it! I couldn't find any use of the accent in any other language wiki article, including French DAB pages. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 22:10, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Avec curiosité, I spotted a 1923 French ad with the acute on a capital, where they often drop them. So its not just l'anglais who are confused! Bonne année, and let's hope it's a better one!TSRL (talk) 23:01, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Haacke HFM-2

You seem to have lots of knowledge of the Haacke HFM-2, where did you get it? - ZLEA (Talk,Contribs) 00:02, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

All the technical stuff is in the Flight article cited, leaving applications and names oustanding. The Museum data identifies the name of the 30 hp version as the HFM-2a but the HFM-2 for the smaller version also described by Flight, but not named, was, as I said in the edit comment, a reasonable guess. I found several of the aps by trawling through the Flight and French online records (Les Ailes is a goldmine); it would be good practice to cite the source of each one but that's often not done. More often than not, these early sources only i/d engines through power but in these cases there was little ambiguity. The Udet info 2 comes from Flight, where it's called the Udet two-seater and the other blue links have sources in them. The Rieselers come from the histavion site; it would be good to have some contemporary sources but I've not found the German equivalent of the Biblioteque National archive. Cheers,TSRL (talk) 10:33, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Your edits on Sikorsky S-8

Hi TSRL, Thanks for the rewording, it sounds better that way. I could not figure out how to get that cite in the proper position and gave up. Thanks again! Samf4u (talk) 17:07, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

Typo help in Latécoère 225

The "word" warer appears in the article and seems to apply to a type of rudder. Is this at typo of water or something else? --LilHelpa (talk) 23:39, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Water rudder is what I meant, as User:Ahunt has noted and corrected. Thanks, both.TSRL (talk) 08:30, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

On 12 August 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article CAMS 54, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the CAMS 54 long-range flying boat attempted an east-west transatlantic crossing, but was returned to France by ship from the Azores? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/CAMS 54. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, CAMS 54), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Proposed deletion of EFF Prometheus

The article EFF Prometheus has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article about an aircraft prototype that never went into production; fails WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. jd22292 (Jalen D. No problem; I took it down for now, partly because I found it in several variations but failed to find a source. I didn't want to upset the fastidious Trump supporters by getting it wrong! It may return, though my last attempt was from Middlemarch (Dorothea) and, whilst I agreed with he message, decided it perhaps looked at bit emotional (she was one who went with her heart (or gut) rather than brain) so I pulled it.
