File source and copyright licensing problem with File:A PCSO restraining a man in Swansea.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:A PCSO restraining a man in Swansea.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 03:20, 20 April 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 03:20, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Here is the link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/election/article-1267305/General-Election-2010-Nick-Clegg-surge-puts-Labour-hung-Parliament-track.html --T9062856 (talk) 11:26, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what you're saying by providing that link - did you copy the image from the Daily Mail site? The article doesn't appear to use that photo, but perhaps an earlier version of it did. --McGeddon (talk) 12:00, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes they have altered it and made it smaller. Take the pic down if it breaks the rules--T9062856 (talk) 17:48, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Still not quite sure what you're saying here (and the photos you link to seem to be different photos of the same event, rather than exact "smaller" copies of the photo you've uploaded). The photo you uploaded - did you take it personally? If not, where did you get the photo from? --McGeddon (talk) 18:14, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I got it from a forum which was on the web link posted earlier. By the looks of things its been changed to a difrent version now--T9062856 (talk) 11:13, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Okay, if you didn't take the picture yourself and just "got it from a forum", you shouldn't be uploading it to Wikipedia, unless the photographer has explicitly released it into the public domain (or under an appropriate GFDL or Creative Commons licence). All Wikipedia images are re-released under a CC Sharealike licence, which means that any photo you upload could ultimately be reused commercially by someone else entirely - the original photographer might not be too happy about that!
If you want to request that the image be deleted, just edit the image page and add {{db-author}}. Let me know if you have any questions. --McGeddon (talk) 11:43, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:PCSO and PC badges.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:PCSO and PC badges.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:47, 16 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Dorset Police PCSO.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dorset Police PCSO.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 17:47, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello T9062856. I am going to go ahead and delete this image. If you have received permission from the copyright holder for us to host the file on this wiki, the usual procedure is to get them to send an email to the OTRS team saying so, and advising what license they wish to release the file under. I can see the notice they placed on Flickr, but we don't know what license they intend to use. There's instructions at Commons:OTRS. Regards, -- Dianna (talk) 00:44, 3 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Dorset Police PCSO.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Dorset Police PCSO.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Stefan2 (talk) 17:14, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks but in fairness I uploaded it in the wrong way--T9062856 (talk) 17:16, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

File:BTP PCSO Liverpool.jpg edit

The media file you uploaded as File:BTP PCSO Liverpool.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, namely "He gave me permission on condition it will only be used on the BTP and PCSO wiki articles." While it might seem reasonable to assume that this is sufficient, images on Wikipedia need to be compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike or another free license, which allow anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. There is no middle ground of "you can only use this pictures on articles X and Y, and nobody can use it for anything else", it's all or nothing. See our non-free content guidelines for more information. If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. --McGeddon (talk) 17:22, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
