Welcome! edit

Hello, SusanatSolarPACES, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was SolarPACES, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Help request edit

Hi Dan, I am a complete newbie here, and dont know how to contact you. Please, YES, proofread my article and tell me what looks promotional and must be edited. I had no idea how to ask. I wasnt planning on learning how to fix Wiki articles and it looks like a lot of new stuff to learn, not straightforward. I think I did write to you, but it is all extremely confusing, so would you please respond with did you get my explanation?? of why I am NOT paid to do this and nobody else has fixed it in 10 years - hardly an org bent on promoting itself in W!
I really hope my original edit is still available to review and hiopefully put at least what doesnt look promotional to you back.
Cheers

" If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page."
Are you in this list Dan?
Please undelete my page if needed -- so I can submit it if you don't see it? SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 04:18, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
The page SolarPACES still exists, but it can't remain in article space without any references. I could turn it into a draft, if you like, so you can work on it with less chance of it being outright deleted.
Your username satisfies Wikipedia's username policy but the community still expects you to make a disclosure of your connection with your subject on your user page, which doesn't exist yet. There are guidelines on how to do this at WP:PAID, but I suggest users put a simple statement on their page explaining their connection in preference to using something like the COI userbox. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:15, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello Jm,
I only just saw this after Deb deleted my original edits, and I rewrote a new page (that is rejected by the roadislong).
Your comment sounds like there is a possibility to simply replace the ancient original page? that has been there at Wikipedia since at least 10 years ago.
before I stupidly blundered in seeing it was so out of date and attempted to get some accurate data. Mainly just that it is an org not a company.
Is there a chance to simply put the ancient (unaltered by me) version back???
Please let me know.
Thanks, Susan SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 00:16, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have responded to your message on my talk page. DanCherek (talk) 12:33, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:SusanatSolarPACES, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SusanatSolarPACES|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 06:54, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I hope you see this. It seems that Dan did not see things I clicked "reply" so it is confusing.
I am not paid to update the SolarPACES Wikipedia page. I am a contractor since 2017 for them just to interview CSP researchers and write their news at that website under a News & Analysis section. It is a pretty obscure field.
I initially came to correct the mis-statement that SolarPACES is a company. It is NOT. It is an international research organisation..
Then I saw that nobody at SolarPACES has updated their page or even logo since 2013, and I tried to update it as Wikipedia should be factually correct. I also saw that only some of the TCPs Tasks from the IEA are fleshed out, and I did that. The fact that the page has been so neglected for 10 years surely is evidence that they never cared how inaccurate and dated it got and would not pay anyone to update it. They would have paid me to fix the page back in 2017 when I was first contracted to cover this research news on the site itself.
I explained that already in two ways in the backend to Dan Hopefully saw them? who had removed my post. Thank you for telling me what to do next - for the first time I see now I can put these facts on a user page. (i am not versed in this.) I hope I can meet the requirements. Please check. Sorry I did not see this requirement before editing another page.
Can you give me an example of how to make my user page indicate that I was never paid to update Wikipedia{{paid|user=SusanatSolarPACES|employer=self-employed contractor|client=SolarPACES.org}}. SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 21:50, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I did make a user page but accidentally deleted it. SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 23:16, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Jeez, this website is convoulted and easy to skid off. I have decided since I have to start all over I will abandon this Username and try as a DLR contractor since DLR pays me, not the international site.
I will heed your advice. SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 23:19, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Using Wikipedia is not so very difficult if you make a serious attempt to read the guidelines and follow the instructions for new editors. Is there a reason you can't practise editing in the way other new editors do? What you definitely shouldn't do is to write an article about a company you work for, whether as a contractor or as an employee. That's an obvious conflict of interest. Another thing you definitely shouldn't do is expect other people to create the article for you. Deb (talk) 06:57, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Deb,
Yes, I admit I really goofed here! My third attempt to do it the right way I did try the drafts version you suggested (thank you) but an artist who promotes his pottery here on his user page (name like a road) then locked me out entirely.
However one of the directors at one of the member nation's labs emailed me this morning quite upset that now the SolarPAGES old page is completely deleted, and he could see that it appears to be my responsibility. I am a paid contractor at another lab, but he knows I'm the only Susan with anything to do with SolarPACES.
Would you please consider reinstating the original 2010 version for them? If I hadn't blundered into this morass last week, it would still be there, after all.
Punish me, but don't punish them. I won't attempt it again, and indeed cannot, per the road guy) They had nothing to do with this and have no problem with their outdated site here.
Have no fear - I am not messing with it again!
I hope you will consider reinstating the old original?
All the best,
Susan SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 23:40, 19 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please don't make absurd accusations about me, my user page does NOT promote anyones pottery! The photos of pottery illustrate the relevant articles that I created about various studio potters. Theroadislong (talk) 07:19, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Is that not an egregious example of promoting your own work at Wikipedia? I mean why put your own pictures here? But never mind. I'm not going to BAN you.
I merely checked in today to see if I had a response from Deb (or Dan, who at least understood that I was attempting to do the right thing) by submitting my draft to you three for advice. (Per the friendlier Wikipedia announcement saying to do that, even though the links are dead: there IS no "Sandbox" etc)
I certainly wasn't promoting, since it was merely a draft. Yet you jumped down my throat and banned me altogether as if a mere draft had some nefarious purpose.
I wasn't expecting to be screamed for contributing something I know about an organization!
Just like you know something about pots and could contribute something at Wikipedia that would enlighten me as I don't know anything about them at all.
But with trolls guarding the bridges to this knowledge, I see now why Wikipedia sadly has so much dated, amateurish and inaccurate information. SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 21:26, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Theroadislong,
Would you please look at the other comparable international organizations?
for example, look at the International Solar Energy Society
I used it as a template, since it is accepted by Wikipedia.
I think you only looked at the original that got deleted? (Sorry I didn't reply, had to rush off and already knew their old page up for 10 years was now gone - Deb deleted it - so felt obliged to replace) SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 23:17, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

May 2023 edit

Please stop. If you continue to add promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at International Energy Agency, you may be blocked from editing. Theroadislong (talk) 08:03, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link, as you did at Concentrated solar power. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. Theroadislong (talk) 08:06, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

You said you were "not interested in "what's on your own page", so I tried to show what for example, the IEA relationship is, from external pages.
I was going to add all the links from all the other sites that say what this 40 year old organization (not my company LOL !) is and does.
Since I can no longer edit, could you at least remove the Wikipedia error that lists SolarPACES as "a company" It is not a company. Thanks. SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 23:17, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please be careful about what you say to people. Some remarks can easily be misinterpreted, or viewed as harassment. Wikipedia is a supportive environment, where contributors should feel comfortable and safe while editing. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 21:31, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

You certainly harassed me, when I only sought advice on how to update an organization's page correctly. I did not start out by insulting and following you around to call you a spammer when I simply included some current news about another topic (with no links to thie offending organization or "my company" as you imagine it, so how is that even spam?) Yet you issued a scary looking !!! SPAM! !!! warning on it. And I'd only added the IEA link to the offending organization to meet the Wikipedia requirements that outside links confirm its existence, since you said "We have little interest in what their own website has to say."
I would really appreciate an ombudsman in this situation.
Or if you would at least please remove those two spam warnings. The scarlet letter is really not appropriate in my case. You have really hurt my feelings with your harassment. SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 21:58, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
With this edit [1] you added a reference using the website of Solarspaces a company which you say “I am paid as a contractor by DLR, one of the international labs that are members of SolarPACES” That is precisely what spamming is here! Theroadislong (talk) 07:13, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
and with this edit [2] you added a pdf document about Solorspaces. Also spam. Theroadislong (talk) 07:38, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I added the International Energy Agency's own pdf describing their TCP with SolarPACES because you kindly advised that this info can't come from their own website "We have little interest in what their own website has to say!"
The IEA is "others" and they say:
https://iea.blob.core.windows.net/assets/9d314089-d6a1-4323-8b9d-c410d3a7d1cb/SolarPACESTCP-Brochure.pdf
Technology Collaboration Programs (TCPs)
TCPs provide support to independent, international groups of government and industry experts to research, develop, and commercialise energy technologies and related issues...
...SolarPACES facilitates international cooperation by promoting research, development, and demonstration activities related to CSP and solar chemistry. It aims to advance the understanding of these technologies, improve their performance, reduce costs, and accelerate their commercialization.
The program supports collaborative projects, information exchange, and the sharing of best practices among its member countries. It also organizes workshops, conferences, and expert meetings to foster knowledge sharing and technology transfer in the field of solar thermal energy.
Would you please revert it? SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 03:33, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
That link is to the NREL database of CSP projects. Many others link to it. Everyone in this field of CSP or considering entering it as a university STEM student needs to access its data as it is the only accurate and completely up-to-date CSP data in the world. It is useful.
The US Department of Energy (DOE) also directly funds the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), whose researchers are paid to update that database at SolarPACES.org.
Dr. Schultz is Deputy Director at the US DOE Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) and The Sunshot Progam, and currently co-Chairs SolarPACES. However, NREL has managed that database from the early years of CSP.

Again, Wikipedia had asked "are you paid to update Wikipedia?" Really, and truly, I am not. SusanatSolarPACES (talk) 03:45, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
