Orphaned non-free media (Image:DNG tm.png) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:DNG tm.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:07, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi edit

This edit moved the picture of Bradman in 1928 so that it now clashes with the section break, which I believe is something that is strongly discouraged in FAs. --Dweller (talk) 08:30, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I was following WP:ACCESS: the image if for 1928 and therefore it belongs to the "First-class debut" section. It's important that each image is located in the adequate section (and not just above the heading of that section), otherwise a wikipedian using a text-only browser or a screen reader won't notice it, and image captions are also part of the article. That's the reason for my change, do you think it's valid? —surueña 08:39, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, fair enough. I've hacked a good version by extending the text. Howzat? --Dweller (talk) 08:59, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

accessibility edit

hello Suruenya ,

I'm a user with , disabilities, and liked your entries on the accessibility project page.

could you tell me how to change what is called the "skin" I think, so the pages become less bright and easier to read?. Sometimes the white brightness somehow overstimulates my brain and triggers migraine headaches, and generally makes it harder for me to use wiki media as much as I'd like.

furthermore I have RSI, and feel hounded because of it by some administrators [in their ignorance I dare hope]. Just have a look at wiki accessibility project page, and I think you will know, what I mean. do you kno where in wiki PDia one can address this? [Sins recently I'm dealing with an imperfect speech recognition system, before, or without it, I can only type shorthand, In short phrases].

[I still have to semi-manually edit my writings; I tryd to pick up most mistakes, but since my hands are hurting more now, I am gone leave it with this, without editing to perfection I mean, in the hope you understand]

Once again, Thank you for the informative entries you've made and shared, and I look forwards very much so to your reply! Sven 70--史凡 (talk) 06:12, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sven70, I can understand your text without problems, don't worry. The best place to handle your problems is at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Accessibility (probably you already know about it). To use another wikipedia skin you must go to your preferences page (the link between your talk page and your watchlist), a select one at the skin tab. But I'm afraid that all those skins are as bright as the default one. However, a user can customize his own style sheet, changing for example the text & background colors, the fonts sizes... Sadly, I'm not an expert on this, but if you know some HTML you should edit your http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Sven70/monobook.css page. See for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Wolfgangbeyer/monobook.css which is adjusted for color blind wikipedians.
This issue regarding skins for specific disabilities was raised previously at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Accessibility. I suggests you to discuss this again in a new section, because people much more knowlegeable than me about this could guide you how to solve your specific problem about custom wikipedia skins. Please, don't hesitate to contact me again about this or other topics. Cheers, —surueña 18:40, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dear suruenya, would you mind picking up my answer on Onorem's talk page? You will also see there the reason why I have to stop now using the computer. Apart from that, I intend to send you a specific response in the near future, the next days or so I guess. Thanks for your understanding and your nice nice, kind and informative reply, on top of that given to me in a very speedy way!!! Sven 70, or Esbel as my former landlady in Valladolid used to write on my milk in the common fridge LOL! thank you once again!!--史凡 (talk) 11:58, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, back from the local carefour, a bit dizzy, but without an overt headache, let alone migraine, touch wood! -- what I meant was, how to have this nice light blue background color like on your talk page, Onorem has the same, if I could have the black letters on such background instead of the bright white1 when reading the various wiki media, that that would seem to make such a Big difference!thank you for caring!--史凡 (talk) 15:53, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

PS after a whole three weeks trying, I finally figured out, asking local people, how to reduce the physical brightness of my computer and TV screen, this after five years living in this part of the world, studying the local language all the time, incredible no?!

Hi again! I read your discussion with Onorem, it's good to know that thanks to a speech recognition software you can better participate in the Wikipedia. Surely, your experience and contributions are very valuable for the Accessibility WikiProject, not just for people with disabilities but for everybody.

But I am puzzled with respect your comment about the light blue background of my user page. I must admit that I don't see any difference with the background of other pages or articles, nor I did any change in the colors. Which web browser are you using, Microsoft Internet Explorer?

Anyway, if I understand correctly you want to change the background of all Wikipedia articles to improve readability, not changing the background of your user page, am I right? In that case, I suggest you to view the following Wikipedia skins with a darker background:

  1. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sb-scr.png
  2. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SFRGreen_skin.png
  3. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wfm_monoclassic_screenshot.png
  4. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Simpleskin.png
  5. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mytheme.png

Tell me if any of them improves readability for you, and I can help you to change the skin of Wikipedia or other Wikimedia projects like Wiktionary. Cheers! PS: I'm not a woman, actually I'm a guy... :-) —surueña 20:02, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

me and names, I went by the final a to assume that your name implies femininity/female gender, so sorry [I once had a female Spanish friend in Saarbrücken, whose name was Charo, which puzzled me; I think it whas shorts for Rosario, the --o remaining though though; another variant of hername was chari, only adding to my confusion, though. I guess the --I is gender neutral, but once again sorry for my mistake!

[Being by things Spanish, well, if Katalan can be included in that huh, not that I feel very strongly about that, though in Belgium I would prefer Flanders to be independent, already and mainly because he Flemish institutions have shown to me that they work in a citizen friendly manner, where as the Belgian ones, the people who work there think they're in paradise havings used their political connections shrewdly, and instead of a service attitude to other Belgian people, say in embassies and consulates, me being where I am having to depend on thst, one gets treated like dirt and a nuisance, point out people pay taxes for them to work there, one gets a semi-clever reply like "you are paying my salary?" [Happened in Beijing, including me being asked in to leave leave, in my own embassy, how dare they, including some senior people been telling me I'd better be on the good side of the guy was giving me a hard time, since he would be solely responsible for dealing with passport matters, like in telling me to get on a plane flight to Belgium, and take care of my new passport application over there{my old one had run out of pages}, I mean can you believe that?? And complaints procedures, and good old-fashioned traditional way, they would be hidden, like in "complaint procedures?, what complaint procedures?! -- funny in Fawlty Towers, like some of the stuff I experience on a dailybases in Taiwan, but not in reality, I assure you.

Back to my Catalan question:why does the rest of Spain, or is it just the Andalusians who have worked there, referred to the Catalans as"Polish/polacas"?? Asking Catalans themselves lead to similar reactions as with asking Taiwanese about Taiwanese things, that is at most embarrassment, after which one is still none the wiser--, so I thought I'd might ask you shy smiley.

Back to background color: I had a look at the links you provided, and they all seem to be an improvement; I seem to prefer the blue one with the wiki PDia mountain like symbol on it, or is it a drop falling in the ocean, not sure -- the one with white letters on a black background seems pretty revolutionary; it would be so good to be able to talk with actual users and to learn from their experiences; I'm a bit hesitant to go for the white letters one for now, also it says Meta wiki, does that mean it is not available yet?

I'm using Opera Web browser for now, and I have been wondering whether my speech recognition software actually doesn't like this brouser very much, as most of the time I'm typing into masks, which are in the end displayed by Opera.

Your user page, as displayed on my computer, has the said light blue background; the boxes to the left, like the toolbox, still have white background as I see it from here,; the whole media as displayed on my computerhave this very white backgrounds that usually causes me headaches...

I hope I covered the points you ask me, apart from the additional Spanish references. I provided; if I forgot something crucial, please get back to me and ask! [I better stop now dictating I better stop now dictating, even with the brightness turned on its lowest, when I close my eyes. There is still a bothering imprint there on my retina, I guess]

Thanks again, both of you for all the help already offered!!!219.69.81.128 (talk) 03:53, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

wiki project accessibility edit

hello suruenya,. I checked the link you gave me, but that is the very page I was talking about, and where another user/admin on the discussion page took down my RSI- user box; I noticed there has hardly been any activity sins 6m or so-- is the project still going on? do you know what's happening with it?thanks in advance, Sven 70--史凡 (talk) 06:48, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the project is still alive, probably all the activity has been moved to the WP:ACCESS page. Have you considered being a member of this Wikiproject? Cheers, —surueña 20:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I found it; only, WP access doesn't seem to be interactive -- believe it or not, believe it or not,, I put my name up as a member only to be deleted by an administrator, just go to the history of wiki project accessibility , I think it was in December, see the four modifications by Sven 70? Cthe user just after me? That's right, he took my name of, and also got rid of the RSI user boxes I made -- I find it hard to believe or explain such behavior, is RSI still an unknown entity? Is it known but considered a hoax and malingering? I can say from my very first hand experience just how crippling and invalidating it is, as I've heard already before from other people in Australia.

That I used shorthand before the speech recognition never seems to have judged upon its merit, mainly a disabled person going through pain trying to communicate, but instead led to mocking, labeling as stupid and disruptive. Such has been very disheartening. It is only with Onorem, and now with you, that things took a turn for the better, for which thank you very much!!

[Can you believe even I think a disabled person herself gave me additionally a hard time just because she feels strongly about spelling taken from her user page? Me who thought wiki PDia be about something like Enlightenment and such, came in for a cold shower in the beginning,. So once again thank you both so much for showing something better!!

PS to have my speech recognition working reasonably, for now I have to restart my computer each and every time I want to use it; so I'm gone leave the editing of my own writings with this for now, as I already lose some so much time every time, also since I have to do my dictating during the best time of my day learning wise, that is mornings, where as during da part of the day I'm more communicative, that is afternoon and evenings, I don't dictate for the very reason that struggling around with the computer and the software would drive me crazy then, then the choice is easily made to hang in front of the TVs for a footie game with a dictionary instead.

If anything is unclear, please tell me, I will be more than willing to clarify anything! Thank you once again and see above219.69.81.128 (talk) 02:58, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Alonsomania edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Alonsomania, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not notable, not neutral, completely unsourced and original research.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Proposed deletion of Shibboleth (computer security) edit

The article Shibboleth (computer security) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Content Fork in 2006, unreferenced before and after move. Still unreferenced. No substantial edits since creation. Google search returns nothing except for Shibboleth (Internet2) which already has a page. Not able to merge, no refs and no potential refs returned during Google searches.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Proposed deletion of TACPOL (programming language) edit

The article TACPOL (programming language) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This fails WP: N. I can't find any sources about TACPOL that aren't affiliated with the US Army (i.e. any independent sources).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
