That is not a source and you can't cite other wikipedia articles as sources. It's an image created by another editor who did not cite his source either but made it clear that he had made the table himself. Please find a verifiable source such as a website by reputable organisation and then change the figures. Green Giant 22:56, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Stop constantly reverting

You have not yet provided a verifiable source. Please note that the diagram by another eidtor is not a verifiable source. Repeatedly reinserting the 14 million figure can be counted as vandalism. The top paragraph figure is something the city government has suggested for a while but not backed up with a reasoning. After the 1998 census, there were claims that the real population including shanty towns was actually 14 million, so that figure was really for 1998. In eight years the original claimants have not updated the figure so it is unacceptable for use here. The main problem is that the Population Census Organization has not provided any recent estimates since the 1998 census -> [1]. The reason I added the figure from the World Gazetteer is that it is a reliable source of information which has academic recommendations. If the city-government of Karachi or the population census people were to publish some estimates properly, it would be no problem inserting those instead of the gazetteer figures. I would love to add some good images but the problem is that we are struggling to find decent free images at the moment. If you have any free-for-use images it would be much appreciated. :) Green Giant 22:28, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

A lot of images have a copyright which requires permission from the owner before you can use the images in a website or a book or a magazine. Wikipedia wants to be able to avoid having to ask too many people for permission so they recommend that wikipedia articles should use free-for-use images whereever possible. As an example, there are plenty of websites offering images of Karachi's skyscrapers but mostly they are copyrighted. However, nothing can stop you or me from taking a good camera to a particular building and taking a picture of it and then releasing that image for free use by Wikipedia. The only problem is I live in Leeds, England so such photos are difficult for me. I am pretty certain that some editors here do live in Karachi and have taken photos for wikipedia before. So we are waiting for some free images to become available. Does all of that explanation make any sense? :) Green Giant 22:58, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Sources and figures

Basically, I would rather not use the World Gazetteer if some official figures could be found from infopak.gov or any federal website. The problem is that they haven't made any official estimates and if you look at most websites similar to World Gazetteer, they either give ballpark figures with everything rounded off to the nearest million or they give the last census figures from 1998. The only thing in favour of World Gazetteer is that it comes highly recommended by GE Sources which is an academic collaboration in the UK. The ac.uk ending in their address is only available to academic institutions and groupings. The recommendation seems to have become lost during the last few weeks, but you can still view it through google at [2]. By the way you added two links from Dawn at the bottom. By the way, when you post on talkpages, please use the plus tab at the top next to the edit page tab. So far you have been adding messages at the wrong end of the talkpage and I keep having to move them. Also, please don't delete any messages, even if you are updating the message, unless of course you are correcting spelling and grammar. Also have a look at how I have organised your references from dawn. It is the best method to enable easy access to sources, while also linking to the specific text. Thanks.
