FG arbcom case edit

Hey, I see that you've been involved in the FG-related cases. They've brought an ArbCom case and I thought you could express your view there, or at least have a look. See [1] Jsw663 18:59, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

GR promoted to FA edit

I don't know whether you've looked at Gwoyeu Romatzyh recently, but it was promoted to FA earlier today. Many thanks indeed for your thoughtful comments on the article, which have helped us bring it up to FA standard. All the best, --NigelG (or Ndsg) | Talk 11:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

A request for arbitration has been filed regarding the conduct of Certified.Gangsta.

Can I trouble you to write a statement at Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram recounting your interactions with him and your impressions of his conduct as an editor?

Thanks.

Thanks for your help edit

Sumple, I'm not sure if I've ever said this, but I'd just like to say thanks for your contributions on the articles we've co-edited. We haven't always seen eye-to-eye, but I feel I can talk to you and discuss problems. I hope you will always remember that although I may sometimes seem rude and irritable, that's probably down to having a bad day - I would honestly regret it if we had a permanent "bust-up".

I hope you had a good Easter holiday - hope to see you around. Cheers, John Smith's 20:22, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, this new user called "VietFire" has appeared - he keeps insisting on removing the phrase "East Asian" that refers to the scholars in the introduction. I've reverted three times already today, so if you get the opportunity to revert it would be helpful. I thought you might be interested because you worked hard to get that compromise there, but maybe you don't care anymore! John Smith's 22:37, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Saying "east asian' seems to suggest that the scholarhip is limited to only scholars from that region. It should refer to Chinese Studies scholars in general.Giovanni33 22:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
(Posting here so both John Smith's and Giovanni33 can see it) I don't think it's a big problem even if East Asian is removed. But maybe "Chinese studies scholars", or "Asian studies scholars" could clarify that this is about their field of study rather than place of residence. --Sumple (Talk) 00:37, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

An Arbitration case in which you commented has been opened: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram. Please add any evidence you may wish the arbitrators to consider to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram/Evidence. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Certified.Gangsta-Ideogram/Workshop.

On behalf of the Arbitration Committee, David Mestel(Talk) 11:32, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wrt your proposal for remedy number five on the Workshop page, would you mind if I changed "to be blocked" to "is banned", as it's impossible to be blocked from an individual page? David Mestel(Talk) 14:52, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please refactor and post to the arbitration talk page edit

The evidence page of an arbitration case is not a venue for threaded discussion. Please refactor. Community consensus regarding canvassing is well established. The mentorship program can help answer general procedural questions. DurovaCharge! 04:07, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey there edit

Hi, Sumple, I just happened to see you on my watchlist and realised it's been forever since I last talked to you. How've you been? I've been doing fine. You may have seen that I was made an admin in February; of late I've done lots of admin work. Probably need to get back to writing articles soon! Anyway, hope you're doing well. Are you sure Pathé Records is Baak Doi? I knew Pathé was Pathé-EMI, but I could not be sure it is really Baak Doi, since Pathé does not pronounce anything like Baak Doi. Do you have sources to help match it? Benjwong 03:32, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gangsta edit

So basically, you're saying he's a Chinese that thinks he's Taiwanese and thinks that Taiwan is better than China, plus Taiwan should be independent? Queer... Sky Divine 23:51, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's not cool at all. He shouldn't really have a say in this because it's actually like between mainland Chinese and Taiwanese-Chinese people. Just like how US shouldn't be in this either.. Thanks for the info though. Sky Divine 19:50, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"He's not Chinese. He said he was half Black (African American) and half Dutch, with some Taiwanese thrown in." -- so he's more than 1.0 persons? enochlau (talk) 02:58, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I may be getting the proportions wrong. This is what he said: "Full disclosure: I am a mix of Dutch, African-American, and Taiwanese". The reason I assumed he was mostly Black and/or Dutch is because of his self-identification as Dutch (User:Certified.Gangsta) and his interests, plus the fact that he knows zero Chinese and very little about Taiwan.
On the other hand, he also claims to be a lawyer and have a JD, so I don't know how reliable the userbox is. --Sumple (Talk) 04:48, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Certified.Gangsta is currently attempting to change his username here in an attempt to hide his block log and misrepresent his identity during his Arbitration case.[2] I think his username change would be very inappropriate because his ArbCom case is not over and his extensive block history would not be reattributed. Certified.Gangsta (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has admitted that he abused sockpuppets and created the attack account, N1u (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log).See [3] [4]. Can you help take a look into this? Thanks. LionheartX 08:25, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Note that Certified.Gangsta has filed a vindictive community ban request on my account in response to his ArbCom case. I would appreciate another opinion at Certified.Gangsta's behavior. Please see Wikipedia:Community_sanction_noticeboard#User:LionheartX. Thanks. LionheartX 09:29, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
A bit busy atm. Will try to respond later. --Sumple (Talk) 09:31, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sure sounds good. I am quite surprised that the final decisions still allow Certified.Gangsta to edit. Regarding his claims to be a lawyer and have a JD, see this. Hopefully there are enough sensible editors and admins to stop him from doing too much damage. Regards, LionheartX 11:36, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Taiwanese Culture edit

Let me get the information laid out so we can work from there. I prefer in-line citations, so I am going that way, but if you like another style, once I get the footers in there you can change to whatever style you like. There is no single preferred method, so this is what I prefer. If I could get a little support and space for a week or so, I think we can turn this page into a winner. But if it is going to be stable, useful and NPOV, it needs to have a strong foundation. I have fielded comments in my email box that say the lede is the only quality thing about the page, so it is all about taste.I hope to have you work with me on this. Thx! :-)Maowang 07:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I will probably rework some of the language, when I have a better handle on how the article will turn out. For the time being, it beats the pants off the old one. I hope you can see where I am going with the whole article. I think a huge idea like "Culture" can be treated with a little more insight than "bubble tea". Thanks for your response, I am listening...:-)Maowang 10:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

you know shit about Taiwan culture you little bitch.

Certified.Gangsta's Arbitration case has closed without all of the evidence being considered, and the Certified.Gangsta (talk · contribs) is now placed on revert parole. Certified.Gangsta is now forbidden to revert-war by arbitration case. See Certified.Gangsta's contributions, Certified.Gangsta's only contributions since his ArbCom case ended was mass reverts and and personal attacks. Certified.Gangsta has now blatantly violated the ArbCom's final decision on several articles which, according to his ArbCom case "shall be enforced by blocks". Could you help report his violation of the Arbitration Committee's Final decision? Thanks, LionheartX 08:29, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've noticed his multiple reverts on several articles, but I do not wish to be involved. If you're desperate for a block, I'd recommend getting someone's attention on IRC. enochlau (talk) 10:33, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

You better stop abusing my userpage. [[5]] is unacceptable.--Certified.Gangsta 09:09, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/TingMing edit

Hi, I was wondering if you could provide your opinion on the TingMing case which is currently before ArbCom and is mostly dead in the water due to the lack of participation of the parties involved. Until the last couple of days I've mostly taken a hands off approach towards the whole thing, but the constant revert wars (e.g. on Taipei 101) are becoming disruptive. I would also like your opinion on whether you believe there is sufficient evidence based on editing patterns that TingMing (talk · contribs) is a sockpuppet of Nationalist (talk · contribs), who has a long history of incivility and using sockpuppets for block evasion. I regret not becoming involved in this earlier as the whole thing seems like it is on the verge of spiraling out of control. Thanks.-Loren 04:22, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Don't stay away edit

I hope you won't stay away for good, Sumple. Take a break if you want; sometimes it's a good idea, but we really can use your help here, even if it doesn't always seem like you're appreciated. You do a great job writing about China and other such topics. I don't really know much about your disputes with Gangsta, so I won't comment on it too much except to say I'm sure you were acting in good faith, regardless of what others think. (For my part, I really wish Meta:Don't be a dick would just be deleted. It never does any good when people cite that essay.) Anyway, take time off, but come back sometime when all this is a ways in the past. I hope that's what you'll do, anyway. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 06:04, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, I hope that you come back. We need more editors acting in good faith. Just take a break, but then come back, okay?  :) --Iamunknown 06:37, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

We need you edit

Hey Sumple, we really need you, in general and in specific. Specifically, someone is reverting at Forbidden City who doesn't seem to understand Wikipedia style. Since you have interacted with him before, I was hoping you could explain it to him. --Ideogram 22:04, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Falun Gong practitioners - good faith editors edit

I see you expressed doubts, that Falun Gong practitioners are good faith editors, on User_talk:Colipon . There are some pretty bizarre sentences in quotation marks there and if that is some kind of joke or sarcasm, then I can't understand it :). Could you possibly express your doubts about Falun Dafa practitioners' good faith in editing Wikipedia on my talk page? I believe that all misunderstandings between editors must be cleared away before the Falun_Gong and related articles can become quality, NPOV compliant and so on, that's why I'm writing to you. Protected page edit request edit

{{editprotected}}

It is requested that my user page, which is currently protected, be edited to insert the following link:

Under "Quote of the moment", replace the text "crazy people" with the piped link "crazy people". --Sumple (Talk) 10:49, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • I've declined your request on WP:RPP. You've been using it to post personal comments about people. Please read Wikipedia:User page to understand why this is not right ... - Alison 11:35, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help in the use of the template. Could you point out the specific part of WP:USER that forbids what I had on my user page, and which justified User:Bishonen's blocking of the page?
To clarify, this was the link which apparently caused User:Bishonens' concern: "crazy people". Please tell me whether and in what way this offends the policy at WP:USER.
In particular, I read "Removal of inappropriate content", and I don't see a community concensus that I should remove "crazy people". The only person who has expressed any objection to it is User:Bishonen. Even the user concerned, User:Certified.Gangsta, has said nothing to me about it.
And what about "After you've been here for a while, and written lots of great articles, the community may be more inclined to let you get away with it"? I mean, User:Certified.Gangsta was allowed to get away with the UI spoofing banner on his user page after repeated complaints by lots of people. So is my edit count or editing credentials somehow worse than User:Certified.Gangsta's?
I'm finding this inconsistent treatment a bit hard to swallow, especially when it seems that what causes the difference is that User:Certified.Gangsta has User:Bishonen as his friend and I don't. --Sumple (Talk) 11:45, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'd say the bit which says "using userpages to attack people or campaign for or against anything or anyone is a bad idea [...] Wikipedia is not a soapbox is usually interpreted as applying to user space as well as the encyclopedia itself. You do have more latitude in user space than elsewhere, but remember: don't be a dick about it." - Alison 11:54, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
As for "inconsistent treatment" - I just arrived here from WP:RPP as a result of checking into your request. I've no idea of your history or the Bishonen/Gangsta thing. But I can say that what you're trying to do here isn't right and isn't helping the project. I'm just working on a case-by-case basis here & am not "friends" with either of them - Alison 11:54, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sure, it might be a bad idea. Many users have some expression of their personal opinion which borders on WP:SOAP or WP:CIVIL violations. I thought the rule in those situations is that if many people complain, you get rid of it. No one has complained but User:Bishonen.
Even if it should be removed, is User:Bishonen justified in just going ahead and "protecting" my user page, after one revert? Funny how my single revert is "revert war" to User:Bishonen, but User:Certified.Gangsta's thousands and thousands of reverts are not a problem to her. --Sumple (Talk) 12:05, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Personally, I wouldn't have prot'd it as early, but that's just my call. This matter is now in front of the community on WP:ANI so I guess the broader audience will judge the appropriateness or otherwise now - Alison 12:08, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
