October 2017 edit

Hello, I'm KylieTastic. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Al-Mubashshir ibn Fatik— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Juana of Castile edit

As you appear to be relatively new to Wikipedia, I wanted to explain why I reverted your recent additions to Joanna of Castile. You have added material that is drawn from original letters and documents, primary sources. The use of primary sources is covered by the policy WP:PRIMARY, which basically indicates that articles should be composed from reliable secondary sources, that the reliance on primary sources to form the narrative represents Original Research, which is prohibited (policy WP:NOR). Wikipedia articles should not represent the scholarship of Wikipedia editors, but rather the editors should compile the scholarship of others. In order to add the details you think the articles should cover, you should find them in one of the biographies of Juana that have been published, not within the original letters and calendars of the time. Agricolae (talk) 17:51, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Agricolae(talk) you are, politely speaking, wrong on this. I revised an original contribution and made absolutely sure no material was primary and only used Bergenroth's Introduction to (his analysis of) the historical record exclusively - he being the uncontested expert on the real Joanna of Castile after his dedicated years personally unearthing archival records and ensuring the facts saw the light of day. As any historian worthy of the name cites his/her sources it is unfortunate that some earlier contributors did not put more reliance on historians and less on the fabulators who treat history like a kind of homeopathic potion. Perhaps there is a case for creating a disambiguation for the other mythical "Juana the Mad" spawner of Hollywood movies and bestselling books. So, if historical truth means anything and after you have verified that what I say is fact (NO original research, no primary stuff, etc etc) and there are no more misunderstandings here, you might revert the contribution, kindly?

Speedy deletion nomination of Antonio Foscarini edit

Hello Sugrammr,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Antonio Foscarini for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Lexicographists edit

A tag has been placed on Category:Lexicographists requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Category:Orientalists from Georgia (country), did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Categories for people by nationality are usually named "Category:Fooish people" (where Fooish is a placeholder for a nationality such as Irish or Kenyan).
However "Georgian" is ambiguous between Georgia (country) and Georgia (U.S. state), so it is an exception. All categories for people from that country are named "<occupation> from Georgia (country)", e.g. Category:Writers from Georgia (country).

Strict vs simplified transliteration of Arabic edit

Hi! WP:MOSAR may be dormant, but its recommendation makes sense: the strict transliteration used in scientific publications is useless to the average reader, since they can't differentiate for example, between sin and sad, and merely serves to clutter the article with diacritics. There is a place for the strict transliteration in the lede, alongside the original Arabic name, as well as for individual terms, but we should not overdo it. Antonio Foscarini edit

Hi Sugrammr, since you created the article I was wondering if for example this file could be suitable for the article. thank you for your time   Lotje (talk) 08:43, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Lotje thanks. I came across Foscarini's story incidentally to separate researching Venetian State Papers of the period, so I have no particular knowledge. I did a quick edit to insert this information, but please improve it. Was Valenza Gradenigo fictional or real? Sugrammr (talk) 15:04, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Does this help you any further?   Lotje (talk) 15:42, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Taking a closer look at the book in question, this could be Valentia (Valencia, Valenzia, Valenza?) Gradenigo (correct spelling?) one of the daughters of Antonio Priuli.

I have sent you a note about a page you started edit
